1. I got my VF-0S last Friday from twinmoons and both pointy bits on the tailwings were hanging by a thread.  There was nothing I could do but break them off.  It took a few attempts but I superglued them back on.  No other problems except the joints seem a bit more loose than the 1/48's and the gunpod does not mount on the arms.  It even sags a bit in fighter mode.  However, it seems better engineered and it's my new favorite toy.  I love all the details and how the arms tuck up far into the belly.

I don't know if anyone else brought this up, but I noticed there were stickers for a two seat cockpit (two pairs of triangles).  I sure hope that means Yamato plans on making a VF-0D.

I´m sure they designed the VF-0 with the Ghost add-on and the GBP armour in mind from the beggining.

I´m thinking Yamato has taken note of what happened with the 1/48 in the sense that they can safely bet we´ll buy whatever variant or accesory they release. Or even if they didn´t expect the Zero to be as successful as the 1/48 at least they designed the toy that way just in case it becomes a sudden success.

  2. If a new Macross TV series, OVA or movie is ever made, I'd like to see Kawamori responsible for the mecha designs of course, but not for the story, unless he's willing to drop all mystical and tree-hugging elements.

And it would be great to have Mikimoto back on character design duties as well.

    398802

    I second that.

And add Yoko Kanno in that list too as well as Tomoki Kyoda as the director ( he directed Eureka 7).

Imagine that , Yoko Kanno music , Mikimoto artwork , Kawamori designs and Kyoda

s directing skills. It makes me drool just thinking about it

    And Bandai´s advertising...yeah , i wish

  3. He is a very talented man, but I think that a little bit of a metaphysical element to a story isn't bad, as it adds a bit of legendary / mystical feel (worked for Star Wars!).

However, going to the extent of space monsters and messianic singers that he did with Macross 7 was too far IMHO.

I don´t criticize him for including metaphysical elements into Macross , but actually for including elements of his own life , like his political ideals , yeah it´s true , you can´t create something without it being affected by your personality or your life, and he has the right to include some innovative elements if they complement the frnchise ( as metaphysical elements do IMO ) but deliberately forcing those elements into a show originaly not inteded to include them as their MAIN attribute ( in terms of plot , music , production , etc..) is a bit egoistic towards his ( an whod the whole team ) creation considering macross main attribute is an equal proportion of action drama and music elements.

From what I've seen each entry in the series has gone in a new direction.

I haven't seen 2 Macrosses that fit into the same formula.

Yes , each series is unique in what they bring to the macross universe but none of them escape the basic formula if you actually pay attention; Last time I checked every macross series to date follows the same principles:

    M0

    SDF Macross

DYRL >>> All share the mecha/drama/music basic foundation

    Flashback

    M+

    M7

Some are plot driven , others focus on character develpment more than the other , others approach from the musical side of things but every one of them has the same structure. That extra spice that distinguishes them from one another is what makes each one innovative within macross.

When you replace that foundation with a new one you no longer have a common ground to compare with , and is no longer innovative , is just a completely different thing.

Macross Plus was innovative because it introduced a new perspective with new elements but the basic formula was still there all along, and it was a superb series because each element in the forumula was done perfectly ( awesome mechas , dramatic character development , fantastic music orchestration).

My point is , innovation can be achieved without ignoring the basic principles. But as time goes by I tend to think Kawamori is more concentrated in making a personal statement with each new project he gets rather than directing them into their natural development.

  4. I think Kawamori is still top notch as a mechanical designer. I have no complaints about how he directs. Macross Zero had some great mecha battles, and Kawamori also did fine co-directing Plus and DYRL. My beef with Kawamori is his storytelling. I don't care if the man has had spiritual epiphanies - more power to him. But I don't want to watch an anime that serves a mouthpiece for him to go on at length about how fragical the Earth is and whatever else he wants to talk about. Even if he was hellbent on doing it once, that's fine, but it's a theme that keeps crawling into more and more of his projects. Personally, I would like to see Noboru Ishiguro come back and direct a new Macross project, be it a movie, OVA or TV show. Let Kawamori be a 'consultant', but mainly keep him to mecha designs only like in Eureka Seven.

    398678

    That´s exactly my personal POV.

The problem with Kawamori directing by himself is that he tends to use his proyects as a way of propaganda for his beliefs , nothing bad with it unless it gets in the way of the story-telling.

And in the case of Macross there´s a formula or a kind of balance that has to be followed in order for a series to be pure Macross sweetness. You cannot ignore the mecha-action/drama/music triangle , nor impose some other element that is not common to the franchise.

Of course you can take the plot somewhere unexplored as long as it remains believable within the universe depicted in franchise.

Ya cannot make a comedy orientated macross series or use britney spears as the BGM and expect it to be considered as macross; you can put comedy elements here and there , or use a variety of music genres in the show , but when you force a show to go somewhere uncommon to the the other series in the franchise for the sole intention of making a point it derives into something different altogether.

I´m talking anime in general. From mecha designs to music , to production personnel, to animation style , etc...not just the plot.

The moment you set the rules for a series you have to keep them as a common ground for every new one

Innovation can only go so far .

  5. Analyzing Kawamori´s recent projects , do you think he is more fit as a mecha designer ,director , or religious leader ?

After watching Arjuna , Macross Zero , Eureka Seven and Aquarion I think he´s more fit as a mecha designer , not that his directing job was in any way poor , but in terms of plot and endings I think a group effort would be more effective.

I wonder if a masterpiece such as Macross Plus could be pulled off by the froating head once again , not because he´s no capable of doing so, rather because of his new way of doing anime.

Of course he should lead any future project but the director seat should be shared with someone else IMO.

  6. It seems people are finally realizing a 1/48 VF-0 would be an insane idea afterall. Not only it would cost a pretty penny , it would be way too big for a display piece in anyone´s display cabinet , let alone the fact that production costs would possibly force Yamato to do a limited run with probably not many variants...

1/60 was the best option IMO. Just look at this toy and you´ll know I´m right. Let´s hope they make a 0D and a SV-51 ( or an OCTOS...yeah right  ).

OT: I´ve had this signature for almost over a year and now that the toy is out and its size is now a fact everyone can see I think I can finally change it.

  7. I just had a thought...

Sony's been in bad financial shape recently.

SCE was basically all that kept them afloat last year.

They NEED to turn a profit on their games division.

Likely why the PS3 is priced as high as it is, so they don't lose money on it.

But they won't actually be GAINING a lot if it doesn't move, which it isn't likely to do.

Hence, the jump in PSP ads recently. It's a profitable chunk of plastic, and they can move it.

The PSP may be Sony's primary platform in the near future.

    398263

Oddly I don't as much psp commericals than last year. I think they mayhe adjusting the marketing to the more profitable markets.

    398270

Sony knows nothings about marketing , they have ignored the industry trends and neglected their own products marketing-wise for YEARS.

Sony is like the Salmon in the electronics industry , always going against the stream of the river; this is because they are a split-personality kinda fish.

Sony stopped being the electronics inovator they use to be in the 70-80s the momment they went into the entertainment industry. Since then the electronics division has fallen apart because of conflicts of interest from the entertainment division and that´s because they decided they exist outside the industry and have no reason to care for customers needs.

They they longer have power over audio electronics , TV equipment, or the overwhelming position they once had over the gaming industry with the PSone.

take minidiscs for example , I bet 9 out 10 people here thinks MD went extinct years ago. I pressume not many people know of HI-MD and how it lets you record/play mp3s as well as function as a mass storage device with virtual unlimited storage capacity using 1GB discs.

Look at how appple´s Ipod advertising campaign led them where they are now; they practically own the mp3 market. I have never seen any kind of effort from Sony to promote their technology seriously. I saw a Bravia TV ad sometime ago, but that´s it. just a few of of TV ads for a couple of days and they expect to do any profit ? gosh... <_<

  8. Damn , this toy really shaped up to be a great addition to the Yamato lineup. I´ll definitively get one for myself.

What really attracted me to the Vf-0 from the start was Gerwalk mode , and it surely looks good as a toy.

  9. OT:

    .....................................................................

    Gosh!

Why do all these threads evolve into a ¨propose your plot here¨ kinda thread?

I decided to start this topic because I was interested in hearing some of your opinions and ideas about what would you hypothetically expect out of a final Macross series if SK were to do one. And now what about your ideas?

I think he means we should post our thoughts on the overall characteristics we expect of a FINAL macross series .Not about the plot but rather about the PRODUCTION and DIRECTION of the series.

At least that´s what I think thread is meant for. Otherwise it´s just a repeat of past threads.

    .........................................................................

    Back on track.

I think Macross eagerly needs a FULL SCALE TV SERIES (50-70 eps), first of all.

No more OVAs, no more movies. Those kind of productions don´t reach the consumer base sufficiently for a franchise to get recognizable as Macross should.

Secondly a more Mature and vertiginously unfolding plot ( much like Eureka 7). Something new and Fresh that relates to past series and deepens onto unrevleaded parts of the franchise.

Superb fast paced animation , see Full Metal Panic:2nd Raid , Aquarion , Eureka 7, Macross Zero.

    SUBTLE TO NONE ECOLOGICAL REFERENCES!!!

    LIKEABLE characters.

    YOKO KANNO BGM !!! PLEASE.

So to sum it up, Mecha action, Drama and an awesome OST

  10. I´ve got to agree on this one , I mean , they ought to make a new (Mature, M+like) TV series; After all , Macross is 1/4 of a century old , that´s no small thing for a franchise nowadays in the anime industry, let alone in the industry in general .

  11. Oh the memories !

5 years is it , right ? dang , it´s been loong indeed.

I remember joining late 2001 , I think November , I found the old site right before the M+ 1/72 toys were announced when Yamato made its entrance thanks to Valk-exchange ( We miss you Kevin !).

My golden days were the 1/60 speculation threads and M0 debates , man , tears are rolling down my face right now I tell you.

How can we forget Yoshinol , Man faye , and those naughty fanworks from BoB.

  12. Man , Ep32 was awesome !!!

The nirvash spec2. is really nice , it makes the nirvash look more menacing , and the flying mode puts that pinch of macross nostalgia to the whole show , reminds you whos in charge of the mecha. B))

And so the plot thickens , the characters grow , the mecha own , can´t get enough E7 now.

  13. All I´ll ever want from Yamato is for them to complete the Macross zero line within 2 years , with all its variants (VF-0 and SV-51) andthen go onto the VF-X2 license and produce every variant in the show , we already have the Koening , so a Vf-5000 , a VF-19A FP and a VF-22 wouldn´t be difficult

  14. Ohhh Man :blink::o

    Those two Eps. were just...man...

I´m speechless , I almost drop a tear near the end.

I reallly wasn´t expecting to see Charles and Ray go like this. I mean , this is RAW drama.

I wonder if its humanly possible to love a show this much , I´m seriously starting to consider E7 as my 2nd favourite anime series, I mean , seriously.

    It´s got everything:

    - Awesome , well defined character cast.

    - Superb Plot

    - KAWAMORI MECHA DESIGNS !!!

    - GREAT OST

    - vertiginous action sequences , Itano Circus Style

What else is there to be desired ?

Oh yes , a whole Yamato Toy line ...whish bandai would release more toys.

BTW , are Bandai´s E7 action figures any good ? if so , where can I get them besides HLJ or ebay ?

  15. My only whish for the 25th anniversary is for BigWest and Studio Nue to get their act together and make a whole new TV series , this time they ought to be more ambitious about it , get out there DO MORE MARKETING DAMN IT !!! , re-stablish the franchise in this new modern market.

Maybe they could make a full tv series based on VFX2 and the Ravens squadron, that way we would get all kinds of Valks in just one show. It actually seemed pretty good in terms of plot.

Toy-wise , I would REALLY sell myself for a 1/60 VF-5000 Yamato toy. If they made a VF-X2 show it would actually make sense. Man I drool just thinking anout it.

  16. Ok , just finnished wathcing Ep.25 , but I feel the urge to comment on some of the speculation going on here. Much of the things being speculated could easily be answered by watchng the show more carefully.

I thought trapar was "transparent particle".

I think it's invisible stuff we can't see but somehow the machines they use react to it and provide an antigravity effect on the material which makes them float.

You are quite correct , except for the antigravity part , all of the machinery (LFO boards , flahships , etc...) in E7 uses Skyfish as raw material (some sort of Film ) for sealing their surface , what skyfish Film does is reflect these Light particles (Light Finding Operation/LFOs could´ve been used initially as tools for finding trapar springs , not as weapons ) , hence when there is more trapar uplift pressure the more particles the film reflects and the easier it gets to be lifted into the air , unless there is to much of it like it did when they found that Coralian and it gets unstable to ride ;).

1.) They're not on earth. Its some other planet.

They are on earth actually , they confirm this rather frequently on the show.

The reason why everything looks out of this planet , almost alien-like, with all of the strange geography and the ¨Pile Bunkers¨ ( those stick-like thingys) is because of the way the goverment over-exploits the trapar springs hidden beneath the earth , hence causing mayor earthquakes and transforming the geography of a place. That and the way Coralians leave a mess behind them.

This is how they found the LFOs ( and more probably how Renton´s dad found the Nirvash). My view is that LFO were created by action of the trapar sealed beneath earth , so when they first found about trapar they tried to get hold of it and instead released all of the energy accumulated and chanced the Earth surface like Renton did with the Nirvash and the Seven swell.

3.1) Then there's the LFOs (Light (alien?) Finding Operation), alien or native to the planet, were discovered that could detect and kill these aliens. Renton's dad found the oldest one, Type ZERO. Activated the 7th Swell phenomenon and turned all aliens into golden fluid (the one the Vodarek priest gave Holland. LCL?). He died in the process, whereas Renton's sister "soul" was sucked into the Nirvash. ( dramatic music: DUM DUM DUMMMMM!!!)

mmmm...riight  , just one thing tough...WHAT FREAKING ALIENS ARE U TALKING AABOUT !!!???

I don´t think the LFOs are in any way some kind of aliens or that the Vodarek´s liquid is either, yes , LFOs are absolutely concient beings/machines , or at least the Nirvash and theEND are ( non-mass produced units) , but I´m sure they´re are not aliens , just some mechanical life forms ( think of the Autobots and Decepticons ) . I don´t see any evidence to suggest the Nirvash is indeed renton´s sister trapped inside a machine BTW.

Based on what we see in Ep.18 we can clearly see how ¨raw¨ LFOs are born from within the trabar springs , I see it as if they were some kind of ¨mineral residue¨ from Trapar concentration that are extracted and then modified in factories to be piloted by humans. So no , they are not aliens , just some life form born from trapar springs. KLF´s on the other hand are purely mechanical tools IMO not conscient beings.

Then...there's the Amita Drive, which i'm not sure if it is always activated. But Eureka has said it, the Nirvash and Renton have some kinda sync relation.

His dad was part of the military then to fight off the aliens or whatever great cataclysm then. His sister was probably part of the project too if there was a project. But I think for added drama, the show might probably lead to this: Renton, Eureka, Renton's dad and sister are part of some Eureka Project thing. Renton was made to coincide with Eureka to activate something with the Nirvash. Renton finds out that his feelings/attraction for Eureka are genetic and predestined from birth. Maybe when they *cough* "unite" great things happen. Renton finds out that his life is a lie and has suicidal thoughts. Nirvash turns into a black mecha and starts to end the world.

sounds too much like EVA to me <_<

If you watch Ep.10-25 you´ll realize , and it is actually said , that the Nirvash , in order to function properly and with it´s full potential in needs both Renton and Eureka to be piloting it at the same time.remember the Seven Swell episode. Also , The nirvash is designed to respond to Renton´s and Eureka´s brain signals , when they are in sync , the nirvash awakes and creates the Seven Swell phenomenon ( like an artificial coralian) , in this case the Amita drive acts like an adapter for the Nirvash to sync with both Renton and Eureka , a key for it to awake fully. This was probably designed by Renton´s dad , as a way yo keep the nirvash from being awakened by the military.

I presumme Renton´s dad is not the hero everyone thinks , and that he coopearted with the goverment to mess up this world , then he realized he was wrong ( probably because of his daughter intervention) and tried to fix things up , but it was late and was betrayed by the military , but just before the end he reprogramed the Nirvash to act only to Renton´s will , knowing he´ll do the right thing.

Then the military tried to emulate the Nirvash system and created a clone , Type TheEND , along with one for Eureka , Anemone.

  17. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention how much I liked the six speed gearbox on the Spearhead.  :D

    355352

That reminded me of the Vf-1 controls somehow

Also , did anyone notice how The End ( Anemone´s LFO ) cockpit HUD was similar to the YF-19´s ?

  18. Ep 22 it's been our for a couple of days now for anyone who still needs to get it.

If Eureka Seven get something absolutely right is the character development. Seeing Renton happy again makes you feel good inside. Now he only needs his onw LFO (other than the Nirvash is ok). =D

    355152

Absolutely right. Also , don´t forget the mecha action aswell ;)

I´m so enjoying this series , I really was loosing hopes of seeing such a great show this time of the year but thanksfully I was wrong.

I feel confident enough as to say Eureka 7 fills the void left by the absence of a proper full lenght macross series in a extremely good manner , IMO.

It´s got one of the neatest character development in recent anime series , awesome Itano Circus-kinda action , Shoji Kawamori designs , AWESOME Music , and incredibly fluid and vivid animation.

Without a doubt E7 ranks within my top 5 anime series of all time.

And this is just for the first 1/3 of the series , I can´t imagine how it´s gonna build up to 70eps :o

  19. Dang , aaajin beat me to it.

Being a shonen anime it´s actually quite entertaining , yes , the protagonist gets stronger and stronger by episode , but that´s the point , well at least it hasn´t gone the Naruto or DBZ way yet since at least it still has a plot to follow.

Anyway , it really gets your attention , it´s like FMP without mechas but with katanas , lotsa humor , action and drama.

    I reccomend it highly
