The Transformers 3 Thread--A Michael Bay Thread
VFTF1 replied to areaseven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
It's confirmed by Michael Bay that the "more heroic" looking Prime means he'll have a big red cape that says "P!" on it. I shyt you not: www.donmurphy.com/michael_bay_heroic/prime/"P".0244/f Pete -
Hi everybody! I was just wondering because I've been watching Robotech recently and I need to get a few things straight that are bugging me. First of all - how long is the SDF-1? Because if you look at it, it doesn't look very long in some screen caps but in others it does look very long. Is it very long? Is it the longest ship that the Earth has ever seen or are there longer ones? Second of all, where is the black hole that Rick ends up at? I have read online that he's at a black hole, but I've been watching Robotech and it's not there. Does it come in the last episode? (I still have to finish "Battle Cry of Honor" and then it's on to "Fighting Bait" and beyond). Finally - I've read somewhere that there will be a live action movie starring Stan Lee. But that can't be right. I know Stan Lee did Spiderman, but isn't he like really old now? Who is he supposed to play? Rick? Anyways, I'm really liking Robotech. It's so much fun - and what's best about it is that it takes tv to new heights. It's so mature and the story seems really well thought out. Oh - and one final question: why do you guys seem to worship the Macross so much? I mean - to me it's a really wierd name. SDF-1 sounds better anyways. I mean, sometimes carrier ships get the names of Presidents. But there never was a President Macross, so it kind of sounds silly. Why doesn't this website just call itself www.sdf1world.com ? Just something I've been wondering about! Pete

What Current Anime Series Are You Watching? v2.0
VFTF1 replied to Duke Togo's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Without even opening the Youtube link, I'm just going to assume that's the ending to Gurren Lagann. If not, then I fear my head will explode as my world-view is shattered and my life is forever changed for the worse. Pete -
Re: Metal Comp. ver. - All I really care about is the poseability and the accessories. And of course it WOULD be good if Lagann and Gurren could function autonomously... Pete

FURIOUS OVER NEW CONAN (Conan the Barbarian remake)
VFTF1 replied to Agent ONE's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I watched Twins last night, and I've come to the conclusion that if they're going really CHANGE Conan - they need to get Danny DeVito to play the role. Pete -
So are you implying that I'm a spambot? Pete

Well - I find myself in an odd situation, because I instinctively wanted to defend those toys...but I did sell all of them... The parts never bothered me. Modern revoltechs and even Macross toys...not to mention models and SOCs have LOTS of parts. Usually there's either zip lock baggies (Figma), boxes (newer Revoltechs), Part-Stands (SOCs) or a Really Big Box (RBB -Yamato) to hold them in. For Transformers - I just stored all the parts in Optimus Prime's caboose. My problem with G1 ultimately boiled down to a couple of things: 1) Poseability - really, as much as I have fond nostalgia for the old toys... I guess I just couldn't stand it anymore...too many bricks...it took away from their character... 2) No screen accuracy - seriously bad on this front - though I know the Diaclones came first and the marvel/eventually sunbow designs were anthropomorphized in accordance with the Marvel Comics "make it easy to draw FAST" dictum 3) LACK OF SCALE - This was a big problem. Blaster was almost as big as Metroplex. Metroplex had parking spaces for Minibots and buildings that made it look like Bumblebee's VW buggy mode was 20 feet tall. I was thinking of buying back the henkeis...but...I dunno... What I really need is some new G1- themed TF products to come out... But... you know... I have the feeling that Animated was the Last Goodbye. That the nostalgia craze is over, the market for G1 has evaporated and WE WILL NEVER SEE IT AGAIN. EVER. It'll be civil war forever! The jedi are relentless! If they aren't stopped... wait...sorry... it'll be new molds and reboots forever. Transformers as a brand is becoming more and more about TRANSFORMATION and CHANGE (Hasbro said it themselves) than about the G1 Mythos. Pete

Hey - talking about American politics is against the rules, so get back on topic Pete

Dag. I must be unique. I LOVE the movie sound track. Stan Bush was my favorite rock star in the 80s and well through 1995 when I first heard Bon Jovi. Hell - in fact, other than Stan Bush, I really didn't listen to music until 1996. People would be like "Aerosmith!" or "Greenday!" and I'd be like "STAN BUSH!!!" I think the band that really got me into non-ass rock music was Smashing Pumpkins - to this day I love their Melancholy & the Infinite Sadness. I MUST buy that for my car!! Um...anyways - yeah - all the music to Transformers: The Movie was kick ass for me. In college, I had the CD and would listen to it constantly. As for the cartoon - I will admit that in college I came to love the comics more. I actually missed out on the comics as a kid - I didn't really feel a need to read them because the cartoons gave me more than enough joy and until Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles graphic novels showed up in my life, I wasn't into comics at all. But hell.. yeah - I love ALL of the cartoon too. I actually can't stand to watch anything Transformers nowadays except for the cartoon or Beast Wars (which I also love). Me and Transformers are like me and my current girlfriend: the love is gone but I can't break it off because I keep waiting for the old spark to rekindle. Um...but...I...do want to buy her a really great present so..uh...buy my stuff!! Pete

Yes - I'd always thought that too. As for Blitzwing - technically that would have made sense to pursue that whole "Blitzwing you traitor" line... but I would think Galvatron eventually realized that the Quintessons betrayed him, and therefore Blitzwing acted in his interest - or at the very least, Cyclonus would realize it and whisper it into Galvatron's audio-module..? Pete who misses talking to people who actually REMEMBER G1 and talk about THAT instead of about the latest tranforming abonination to hit the shelves/airwaves Crusty Old Man

Sounds interesting - I hope people who are there give feedback in this thread! Pete

I am authentically dissapointed - though not surprised - that we can't come to a consensu on this isse, and agree that Roboteching is making use of the Robotech Thruster sex toy. I also renew my call to Harmony Gold to mail a Cease and Decist order to the producers of the Robotech Thruster Masturbatory device. Although - I'm willing to bet that the Robotech Thruster automated pussy is TRADE MARKED. In which case - I appeal to the Porn Industry to please send a Cease and Decist letter to Harmony Gold for infringing on their copy right. Good, decent people who masturbate with the Robotech Thruster would be shocked, SHOCKED! if they knew that the appeal of their beloved sex toy was being used by Harmony Gold to market a bootleg of 3 Japanese anime and being hustled onto Warner Brothers to become a LAM. Think of the children. Where is the outrage? Have you no decency? Pete
-
Roboteching is masturbation via mechanical device. I already proved this eons ago in the previous threads! You guys have no memory! No memory! http://news.softpedia.com/news/Robotech-Th...ice-55398.shtml CASE CLOSED! Pete

You guys are looking at it backwards. The first pic is from behind. The second pic is the front view. Notice the face and snarly teeth. It has big feet and small hands. From the back, it has thrusters that propel it at Mach 90 if it wanted to. Dumb Macross purists. Finnish sum educations guys. Really. You want to critasize Robotech ok but you are making a lafing stock of your self when you cant even know the front from the back. Pete

in order to have secret intel, one must first have "intel." Pete
-
Ok - this is why Mavi s right. I mean...clearly you don't have a PhD. Helllooo!!! He autographs it because it's in Robotech and HE F-ING CREATED ROBOTECH!! DUH!! Stupid Macross purists - I swear. All they know is child porn. Beyond that - CLUELESS. Pete

I'm confused again. I thought the bad guys in Shadow Chronicles were the Haydonites? And they are not original - because they were in the novels... maybe it's "original" that they turned out bad? As to the rest - ok - not much to argue with there. But you sound about as enthusiastic as I'd sound if I were asked "what do you like about Inhumanoids?" ... I'd answer...the general concept was cool and I liked the tree dudes, and I even had the toys of the monsters ...the trees...the transforming rock...and Tendril...although I always wanted the one with the rib cage. But the humans had the stupidest armor suits on - and I never could get that much int the plot although that one lady was there or something... ... In other words - it's like...it sounds like you watched it half asleep. To put it another way: Shadow Chronciles can be watched with some beer and pizza to pass the time. Ok. No point arguing with that. But when I REALLY like something (Gurren Lagann, Evangelion etc) - I can go on for hours about why it's the coolest thing in the universe. If the above reason is the full brunt of Robotech enthusiasm amongst Robotech fans...well... Pete
-
I am too - although; honestly - I see no point in comparing it to Macross: Frontier. That's actually so pointlessly random. Of course, if you're a Macross fan, then chances are you'll prefer Macross Frontier to Shadow Chronciles because it's MACROSS. I would wager that a Macross fan who normally doesn't like Macross 7 would prefer it to Shadow Chronicles just because it's Macross. I don't see the point of comparing the two. I know we've done it a lot - but only because people like Doug Bendo kept making the comparisson - or people like that one dude who wrote that idiotic "10 reasons why Robotech is better than Macross" list... and usually the comparissons were bad NOT because they argued for Shadow Chronicles.... but mainly because they demonstrated a total lack of knowledge about Macross. It's actually quite difficult to compare two things when you have no clue about one of them. So for now - I'd be happy if someone explained what they like about Shadow Chronicles rather than jump to the far harder task of comparing it to MF. Pete

Good job! Pete

My memory on what Starscream did in that episode is cloudy - but anyways, Octane was the Decepticon triple changer who initially "found" Starscream's ghost in the underground catecombs. He was being chased down by Cyclonus and the Sweeps for apparently trying to betray Galvatron (we never saw the actual betrayal, just Galvatron...or rather...well...there was an animation error..so...in the scene where Galvatron was yelling at Cyclonus to find Octane...all we saw was Galvatron's empty throne...)... Anyways...Octane turns into a tanker truck and a passenger airplane... He's a pretty cool character. There was also a Henkei Octane made recently - not a bad toy.... And yeah - Fireguts Gond Ginrai was a limited production run - but then again...so was ghost Starscream. Pete

If people donate the money for a plane ticket - count me in! I've never been to Southern California! There was actually a brief time in my life, back when it looked like I might actually finish college and go on to grad school, that I was gonna visit Malibu - but alas...it was not to be I've been pulled eastward ever since! As for those comments - that's not surprising. I think Shadow Chronicles can be chalked up the same dynamic that the LAM can - namely the nostalgia craze. But, in the case of the Shadow Chronciles - it was the Nostalgia craze + the Boom. By the time the LAM rolled around, the Boom was gone - thus it's harder to get crazy stuff like this off the ground for them.... Pete

For the record, I have nothing against even "excessive" Tits and Ass" in an anime. My problem with the shadow chronicles is not the presence of T&A - rather, if we're going to stick to discussing aesthetics - I hate the clothing that the girls have. Who cares if the suits are tight. They all look terrible. The guys look like Match Box action figures. The designs are generally aesthetically unfashionable. I also don't really like their hair. Overall - it's all unimaginative. Lots of shows have tits and ass, not all of them merit interest. Naturally, my critique of SC can go further than that even - but if we're ONLY looking at the tits and ass part - then there you have it. Pete

Hey - whadja expect? I ain't gots no masters degrees or nuthin' Pete

Oh wait...so it wasn't even WRITTEN by that guy who Mav touts out as a mega cool writer?! That's pitiful Pete

Thanks for explaining tsundere - that's very interesting. As to Kyon and Haruhi and whether it's love...well... the "problem" here is that they're in high school yet they show a level of maturity that is necessarily relavent in a situation where the fate of the universe is at stake. In this sense, all of them are tsundare insofar as they play two roles - and actually it's hard to tell which role is dominant. But the point is... let me put it this way: Can you imagine them graduating and going their seperate ways as is the case with 99.99% of people who go to high school? Because I can't. Heck - this isn't even "90210" type high school drama - despite the presence of romance - the high school is nothing more than a social setting. But ALL of them are mature beyond their years. This is easily explained in regard to Koizumi (part of a secret Esper organization), Mikuru (time traveler being overseen by her future adult, and therefore mature self), and Yuki (Data Interface Being)... but Kyon? ... where did his maturity come from? And for that matter...where did Haruhi's? I guess what I'm getting at is that the setting here is a pure abstraction. I don't see how the high school setting in any way shape or form has anything to really DO with high school. I guess when I watch this anime - I just see the heros acting in a realm that happens to look like a high school and a nice town in Japan...but really - you have to kind of think of it as Yuki does: it's an alien planet. If you look at the matter from Yuki's point of view - you disabuse yourself of the illusion that the context matters - and you see the struggle as a kind of cosmic drama.... I guess we'll see how it plays out... and yes - you'e right - it is open to interpretation. But I just can't see the anime as being about Kyon and Haruhi's love - I don't see them as in love. I think Kyon loves Mikuru deep in his heart, and would prefer being with Yuki. Haruhi is just a girl that he'd sleep with. That's pretty much how I see this running down. Now - from my own experience, I do agree that strangely enough the girl you love deepest in your heart turns out to be evil (per Koizumi's warning), the girl you'd prefer being with turns out being non-human, and the girl you wouldn't think of as anything more than a fun sexual toy for a one night stand ends up being the love of your life (glad my girlfriend isn't reading this - but even if she did - she knows that's kind of how our relationship started...) ... So - ok - in THAT sense...I can see Kyon and Haruhi getting together...kind of by default... But Mikuru would really have to prove to be as Koizumi warned...and Yuki would have to tragically disintergrate into little data particles... I dunno... At some point - if this story kept on going...it would have to evolve beyond the high school... Now - the only part of the story that DOESN'T take place in the high school setting that's shown to us is: A) Little Haruhi blackmailing time-traveling Kyon to help her or she'll report him to the cops as Echi B) Little Haruhi destroying the world after realizing her insignificance during a baseball game I guess I need to see the Dissapearance movie. I'm sure it clears up a LOT of this stuff. When's THAT coming on DVD?? Pete
