  1. I'm not nominating the line or anything, but does anyone know what that cartoon/toy line was called that featured all those monsters and weird creatures that lived underground? There was a giant skeletal dinosaur thing, some guy that was blue on one side and red on the other and represented the magnetic poles or something. (I think he had two distinct personalities as well.) All sorts of Magma and earth elementals... Jeeze, this stuff sounds strange but I swear I'm not making it up...

I think there were some humans in armor or something who constantly had to journey in the underworld to deal with the politics of the various monsters there who were threatening life on the surface world. They played factions against each other and sometimes had to side with one evil monster or another....

One monster looked kinda like Hedorah from the Godzilla movies.

Not sure how much of this my memory is messing up...

  2. I wouldn't call it an "epic" space battle, compared at least to the scope of some space battles in other fiction. Nonetheless, my vote goes to Char's Counterattack. A well thought out and well choreographed battle. The factions act and react and the tide plays back and forth as if it were a retelling of Midway or the Arden.

  3. I heard they have webbing they can deploy between their legs which allows them to take a running leap and fly for short distances, and that they frenzy and swarm once every three months, and the only thing than can stop the swarm from killing everyone in the region is an ancient Sumerian ritual which requires hundreds of liters of goats' blood and a chant taken from one of the Dead Sea Scrolls, and that that ritual is the only thing supporting the Iraqi goat-herding industry.

    Well, that's what I heard. :p

  4. Yeah, the animation is crap, but if you're trying to take it at all seriously you're way off base. Very funny show; in the first episode anyways.

Much more entertaining than Seed in any case.

edit: that Spaceship Yamato cannon was great. :)

What is it about Seed's animation that looks so horrible? Of course it's better than Megas, and the quality looks okay, in general, but it still manages to look like crap. Is it all those needless camera pans, or the scan-lines in the CG? Whatever it is, between the look and the uninspired story, I haven't been able to pay attention to it for more than a few minutes at a time.

  5. While I really hate the new designs, I think it's important to remember that the original Gunbuster was a parody - something many people, even fans, tend to over look these days. That being the case, I can see how these designs could be another parody of the current trends in anime.

    That's a good point.

And may explain why it looks to me like that Buster Machine is a Street fighter character with his face being eated by an EVA.

  6. Great idea for a thread. Some awesome stuff....

    I've got MG envy.

The only MG I've ever built so far was that Dunbine kit. But I have had this RX-78 Ka version sitting around for a while, and about a week ago I finally figured out how I'm going to paint it. I plan on starting it sometime soon.

Here's a pic I made to mock out the paint scheme...

  7. Votoms is kickin. But I'd rather have the Yamato treatment on a nice line of Patlabor mechs. Hard plastic with some diecast . 1/35 scale or so, with maximun detail and playability. With the Helldiver and Hannibal and some of the other military designs in the line.

Bandai's MG Labors just feel too light and fragile to be any fun.

    If only...

  8. Not something that falls within my realm of interests. Still, looks like a very nicely engineered and sculpted figure.

Just curious, is this the only character they have made in this style of figure, or is it part of a larger EVA line?
