1. Everyone here knows that it was a fictional TV show. We aren't arguing that. We aren't arguing that it is going somewhere either. We are arguing about whether or not the show was actually good.
2. I'm not sure how political that kind of action would be. Maybe Hikaru could petittion the house to have Kaifun removed from operations. A 75% vote might be enough. 415283 Political since the guy was going around creating rifts between the public and the government at a time when that was the last thing the people needed. Maybe before the war it could be tolerated but not when over 97% of the population was wiped out and the Earth turned into a wasteland.
3. Even so, Kaifun's seed needs to be removed from the world. Hikaru should have arranged an accident for that fool.
4. Even so, spiritia doesn't seem to be a very good source of energy. You have to fight for it, it relies on contact with other species or the farming there of and it takes up a buttload of time and space to harvest.
5. But this mystical energy is directly influenced by chemical secretations in our brains and thus all the enemy really needs to do is reproduce these chemicals and insert them into monkeys.
6. Life energy? Life energy for a human is the process of breaking down food. Humans are pretty much an internal combustion machine.
7. I seem to remember that spiritia tended to spike in times of emotional distress as well. (Hence whey if you watch the little spiritia meters the varuta have they creep up during the combat scenes) Whenever one gets emotional or takes part in an act that has emotional significance to them the spiritia levels rise. Also this energy seems to be in use passively since having it removed turns the subject into a vegetable (at least temporarily). It is never stated that this is due to chemical secretions. However since the harvester beam thing only seems to work when it strikes the head that could be how it works. 415168 Your emotions are pretty much chemical secretations in your brain and since your spiritia level corresponds with the intensity of your emotional state...
8. Let's get this straight, since it has been a while since I watched Macross 7 and I don't have the series anymore to go check, all living things have this vast amount of energy hidden within them. It has to be vast in order to be practical to put forth the effort to harvest. This energy sits around inside of our bodies and contributes nothing as, for some strange reason, our body doesn't use this energy. If we sing and become emotional while doing so then this energy source gets bigger ... from our brain's chemical secretations?
9. Everyone seems pretty cool with it in the show... are they actually cousins or is it some cultural thing?
10. Your example is not equivalent to the situation you initially describe. And its certainly not as impractical as you make out... its no less impractical than warp drives (given our current knowledge of astrophysics), and CERTAINLY no less believable than "newtype energy" that is introduced in UC Gundam. IT never was said that what was emitted by Sound boosters was "sound" travelling through space, rather it was some sort of energy that could resonate sound. The Protodevilin series was always about the protoculture tapping into some sort of newly discovered energy source eminating from another dimention, that they had limited knowledge of. The protodevilin were essentially bio machines that used this advanced power source. Also from what we have seen in Macross zero, 7 DYRL, the protoculture's esthetics were highly stylized with an organic, primitive and biomechanical feel to them. The AFOS showed the mechanical aspects of this, and the protodevilin follow this design philosophy. (Note for LVlurker. I don't care what you have to say, so don't bother giving me some long winded reply on some arcane level of gundam knowledge. You're wasting your time) 414756 You took my point too literally.
11. Yes, yes, we all know the wings are missing. Though I barely noticed it in the game.I can't believe that a minor liberty with the character model makes the entire development studio suck. There's no good way to implement the GBP. It just doesn't work for most stages in the game. The handful it WILL work in would just leave people whining about "Battlecry sucks because I can only use the GBP in 6 stages" or whatever the actual count winds up being. Don't believe me? Start playing levels battroid-exclusive, and tally it up. 3 lines of code will leave you with a horribly broken implementation without signifigant changes in several other functions. As things exist, there's one status bit: Space mission. This is likely the only thing that reported about stage contents outside the game engine(because it's needed for FAST pack authenticism). You COULD add a second status bit for "GBP-compatible stage", but it's not worth the effort for the minimal stages it's useful in. Especially since it forces you to fix the existing "FAST pack in atmosphere" logic bug, which probably exists because FAST packs weren't intended to be optional when they coded the frontend. While the FAST pack bug doesn't cause any actual problems, the GBP bug WOULD. So GBP in story mode results in a major overhaul to the frontend for a fanservice feature that is only USABLE in maybe a dozen levels and actually a valid option in even fewer. The QRau at least has GERWALK functionality. I'm not sure where you got the low-budget argument, BTW. I don't see any evidence that it was low-budget, just that it was forced out the door before it was completely finished(Which happens a LOT, especially with games released in November. The holiday season has doomed many games.). If you can provide a reference, I'd be interested. As near as I can tell, the board just hates the game because it's Robotech. The rest of the world had a lot of fun with it, and I don't really see how "Wingless battroid and no GPB" makes the game crap. If you want to gripe about a game, let's dogpile the GBA Robotech game. THAT ONE deserves it. 414412 WTF are you talking about? First off the GBP has missiles, much more than a plain Valkyrie does so it would work on nearly every stage aside from the ones that required speed. Lack of speed could easily fixed by allowing you to change your Valkyrie between missions or having a jettison function for the armor. Both options wouldn't be hard to implement. Also, if you enabled it solely as a bonus then it doesn't even matter whether or not the missions will be catered towards it. Bonuses don't have to follow the rules, that's usually why they are bonuses.
12. There is a difference between accepting impractical technology used in an anime and accepting a down right stupid story line. For example, let's say they cast Saving Private Ryan with laser rifles instead of M1 Garands. Stupid but it still has a good story to it. Now what if they made it "Saving Private Ryan's Canteen" where they wade through German forces to find a canteen that fell off Ryan's webbing during his air drop. Yeah, that would be pretty lame. What if you had a mixture of both? You'd have Macross 7.
13. If the guitar isn't controlling it, what is? This isn't Robotech and it's not a YF-21--the pilot doesn't control fine movements with his brain. It's the guitar. 414536 I don't think it's really an issue of if he's using the guitar as his controls(he clearly is, they even take time out to demonstrate that the guitar has function keys for things such as the EVIL DISGUSTING MISSILES OF DEATH AND DISCOMFORT!111), so much as if he can actually fly while performing. If the sound track is accurate(which it pretty obviously isn't at points), the music continues even while the pilot isn't playing, so Sound Force's VFs have pre-recorded versions of the instrumental portions. Only reason I can think of is that it isn't possible to fly and play guitar at the same time even with a guitar stick. Unrelated: Speaking of guitar controllers... If someone does a Macross 7 version of Guitar Hero or GuitarFreaks, I will laugh my gluteus maximus off. 414573 Wait, why even bother actually playing while in combat when you could just pop a CD in or something like that.
14. you can get it in the memories book. 414455 Sweet but if he had that I doubt he'd be asking for a high-res scan of it.
15. Basara should have taken into consideration that perhaps his songs don't really have an impact on their enemy. If somebody with a gun was singing at me it wouldn't make it any harder for me to return fire. He assumes that the enemy are going to respond the same way the Zentradi did but for all he knows, the enemy may not care nor even be listening or the music may actually benefit the enemy... they may even like the music but still have no intentions of stopping their assault. Also seeing as how the enemy continued their assault quite a few times, something should have discouraged him from conintuing.
16. Nukes don't make exciting battles that's why.
17. They were still equipped mainly for F-mode takeoff and landing. In space, reaction mass matters. While in an atmosphere you have a limitless supply of air to propel yourself with, in space you have to carry something to eject for every twist, turn, and boost. Launching from a catapult sent them moving towards the enemies for no reaction mass cost, thereby increasing the VF's operational time. It saves fuel, in short. Dunno if the Macross' internal hangers had catapults, though. On the ground, it's probably just a matter of what mode the VF was parked in. Easier to launch in your current mode than it is to transform and takeoff. 414222 Easier to land in Gerwalk mode than it is to land in fighter mode seeing as you can come from nearly any angle then hover and land especially on carrier landings. On land, if in Gerwalk mode, the VFs would only need to walk from cover then take off. It would be every VF at the same time as opposed rolling out the VF, lining it up on the runway, queuing the VFs as not all of them can use the runway at the same time, taking off then circling until the entire squadron makes it off the ground, then forming up and attacking.
18. Things like GBP being accessible after a stage had been completed would have been easy to implement. You could write a three line function to enable its use. So yes, they were lazy in that respect. The game could have had many improvements made to it however it was an extremely low-budget game.
19. Speed. A GERWALK is a relatively slow target. In space, they don't even need VTOL. Just fall off the edge and you're good to go(see: DYRL launch arms). But in the series, they retrofitted the Prometheus with gravity generators and used the catapults anyways. Advantage was that it gets the fighters moving with a minimum of reaction mass expenditure. Of course, the VF-1's transformation capabilities were also classified. They didn't want people to know about it. That probably had something to do with it too. That would make sense pre-Space War I but during Space War I it didn't really seem to matter especially since they had video games that depicted the VF-1. I was referring to just taking off and landing in gerwalk mode. They show the Valkyrie having no problems going from a stand-still to great speeds in fighter mode with little problems. Also, it would be faster to deploy the Valkyrie in gerwalk mode than it would be to prepare and launch a Valkyrie in fighter mode. They don't have to line the gerwalk up with anything nor attach it to a catapult nor launch it down a runway to get it up to speed.
20. It has quite a few good shows but some pretty lame ones like Tom Goes To the Mayor and Squidbillies.
21. Valkyries do make a good all-purpose vehicle however highly specialized vehicles will always be superior to a general purpose one when they are performing the same roles. The gerwalk and fighter mode of the Valkyrie have some pretty clear benefits. The gerwalk allows the Valkyrie to perform the same role as a helicopter. Although it does puzzle me why Valkyries usually take off and land in fighter mode when gerwalk would be much easier. You could launch more Valkyries at a time in gerwalk mode off of a carrier than you could in fighter mode, this is one of the reasons why new planes intended for carriers are incorporating vertical take-off technologies (F-35 also called the JSF). Battroid mode is debatable as it doesn't have a clear advantage over the other two forms unless you want to take hand-to-hand combat into consideration but that is moot as a jet doesn't need to fight hand-to-hand. The battroid does offer some range of motion advantages however those advantages could be nullified by altering the arm design of the gerwalk mode. Battroid mode doesn't seem to have a clearly defined role either. Although what UN Spacy really needs to develop is a missile that has an omni-directional barrier around it. Missiles having built in self-defense have a huge advantage over ones that do not. Cruise missiles that could fold to their traget rather than use conventional propulsion would also make a good weapon.
22. Pickes are disgusting. But easy to pick off. If they pump your burger full of mayo, you'll never be rid of it. No matter what, there'll always be crevasses full of the stuff... Especially if it's a cheseburger and the cheese is properly melted. 413991 I hate mayo on anything. And also, when the tomatoes are all mushy and nasty. 414057 Mayo adds a lot of calories and fat to whatever you put it on.
