  1. #3 last night in IMAX. The experience was trash. My local 15 second drive from my house Galaxy has a DFX ATMOS screen with luxury (recliner) seating. We were packed into the IMAX like sardines, it was hot, it sounded like crap, the 3D glasses physically hurt to wear and the food was a joke.

That aside, it does look a lot like a gravestone that Luke is standing next to. There's also a ton said without words in that scene. The subtle emotion they both put forth is awesome. She's like "hey bro, you lost this but now it's time to train me with it" and he's like "dang, where'd you get that? I'm not sure if I can do that again. The Force has hurt me bad in the past and I don't know if I can let her do that to me again."

Adam Driver really nails it. The more I watch, the more I see from him in that character.

I think Carrie is the weakest link of them all. It didn't seem like an issue the first couple of times but watching her again, she's just dragging in her scenes and when Han dies her reaction to feeling it in the Force is meh. I think she could've done a lot better.

Still wondering what the significance of the ashes he puts his helmet in is.

  2. Regarding the Force ghosts....Yoda said that Qui-gon "taught" him how to commune with him....per ROTS Yoda then teaches Obi-wan...but who taught Anakin?

Or is this what Plagueis meant by "cheating" death?....or is the "Force Ghost" ability the light-side version of "immortality"?

Hard to say. Them appearing as ghosts happened before GL went back and added midicrappians and "learning" how to be ghosts.

  3. Regarding the whole Snoke-is-Plagueis theories....why mess with a muggle sith-wannabe when he could just manipulate the midichlorians into creating a vergence of the Force within a new lifeform?

And speaking of that....it is probably no longer canon....but do any of the books ever go into this "virgin" birth of Anakin?

I forget the source but it's strongly hinted at or said that Anakin was actually the result of such tinkering by either Plagueis or Palpatine.

If Snoke is Plagueis, we don't know how much power he still has since he was "murdered."

Muggle-Sith() or not, Ren is part of the Skywalker bloodline. That makes him incredibly powerful. It was mentioned previously in the thread, they are genuinely worried Luke will come back. There's a reason. Raw power might be that reason. We have to take into account that Luke Skywalker was in fact the last of the Jedi, regardless of Yoda's "there is another Skywalker" speech. Unlike the EU, Leia didn't do anything with her power. Luke was forged to do one thing: face Vader and destroy Palpatine. Training as a classic Republic Jedi wasn't in the job description.

However, there are several parts of the EU that made a lot of sense in countering that after the fact. Kenobi's ghost stays around for awhile after RotJ and helps Luke with training and finding Holocrons if I recall. Hopefully they add something along those lines later on since it would fall in line with the fact that years later, Qui-Gon spoke with Yoda and taught him how to become a force ghost.

  4. I honestly don't think it would be a terrible idea if they were the same person.

It keeps everything together as far as "real" canon goes.

That comparison video floating around showing the music tracks for Palpatine sharing his dark side knowledge/story about Plagueis and Snokes first appearance could merely be just John Williams giving us "bad guy/sith/dark side" music. However, I skipped to Mace's death and that scene where Anakin begs for help to keep Padme alive, Palpatine tells him "to cheat death is a power only one has achieved." This is somewhat counter to what he tells him during the opera. During the opera Palpatine makes it seem like Plagueis could only keep those he loved from dying whereas Palpatine makes it seem like Plagueis cheated death himself later on. He even averts his gaze from Anakin when telling him.

Now, I'm not one to give George Lucas credit for much anymore, but it's a super interesting thing when watched again in a different context.

  5. I enjoyed it quite thoroughly, going again tonight at 7.

    Some minor dislikes:

Actual spoilers inside, read at your own risk.

Phasma was a waste. Totally and utterly. Don't know whether or not J.J. was trying to make her the new Boba Fett or what. Either way, wasted. (so far?)

Max Von Sidow must have called in a favor to be part of this. He left me with more questions than I wanted. Perhaps maybe it will be fleshed out. I hope.

Starkiller base was....dumb. I didn't feel anything about it. Good, bad, scary, ominous. Nothing.

Not sure if I was feeling how quickly Rey picked up her abilities. Regardless of how troubled Ren was, she turned the tables on who we see as an incredibly powerful force user. It felt really rushed. Then again, if she IS Luke's daughter(Anakin's lightsaber calling to her, hearing the younglings it murdered, seeing Luke mourning in the past, all leads me to believe she is in fact a Skywalker), she's incredibly powerful by default, just lacking skill. The lightsaber battle is very emotional, she uses the Obi-Wan VS Maul/Luke VS Vader ROTJ anger there. We will see how well they portray her later.

Edit: Also quite annoyed that the Duracell commercial from a MONTH ago was a mega spoiler. Yeah, we don't know until it actually happens, but it was glaring.

  6. How would you assume that?

There are several articlesfrom today and yesterday pointing to this answer when Lin was asked about the events in Into Darkness: "[Co-writers] Simon [Pegg] and Doug [Jung] and I have spent some time on that. [laughs] Star Trek has been around for 50 years, and every filmmaker that comes on has a different point of view, and it’s a universe that can support many points of view and journeys and adventures. I embraced what JJ has brought - without him this whole group wouldn’t be together - so I’m definitely very appreciative of him. At the same time, do we address it? No, but we don’t discount it. We don’t sit there and say it doesn’t exist, it’s part of this universe now."

Maybe not a reboot of a reboot, but maybe a minor retcon? Either way, it's interesting.

  7. What's FB?

If I had to vote for a Titan, I'd vote for Animated Omega Supreme. He would have been an awesome toy, even moreso if they'd scaled him to where a deluxe sized fig could fit in his cockpit. It's a nice dream.

I was never crazy about any of the large TFs that turned into cities/battle stations. I'm glad they're making them for those who do, though.

Facebook. It was on the Transformers Facebook page all day yesterday.

  8. Divergent timelines.

    - Kyle Reese is in time flux while John Conner is being turned into a nano-cell Terminator. Because of this, he attains memories from two timelines. Assumedly, this Kyle Reese wasn't from the original timeline ajyway, and was from a B / C / D route after the events of 2 or 3. We know this isn't the Salvation timelone since the meeting of Reese is different. Ib this timeline, Skynet rushed nan9 developement to blitz attack Conner.

Reese travels back in time along the new route created as he was leaving, not the one he was born on. At this point, conjecture based on inference makes me think that Terni-Conner & Skynet both see an importance in maintaining a certain extent of previous events, but wish to skew things a bit more favorably, so they:

    - Send a T-800 back in time further to kill Sarah Conners parents, and raise her even tougher. (Note Pops with the RPG as he was walking to retrieve Sarah from the docks).

    - Send a T-1000 to 1984 to raise the danger level / ensure Reese still meets Sarah & fathers an incarnation of John.

    - Take use Pops to ensure the original Skynet & Judgement day don't occur. Send Termi-Conner back to create a more fominating version of Skynet in 2017, and possubly break the cycle of Skynets fall.

You'll note that social media controlling Skynet wouldn't need to immrdiately misdile strike to take over, skipped over T-600 & T-800 dev, and atarted along the path of liquid metal to likely move into nano machine dev. I think this time, Skynet planned to turn all of humanity into machines like Comner, but, we'll see if this storyline gets a follow up.

But basically, that's how John Conner can exist in a world he wasn't born into, and why Reese can remember both.

Holy crap that makes a lot of sense.

Skynet is known for its arrogance and its failure to understand how far humanity will go to survive. Dang.
