  1. I'm sorry. I must have missed something. Where does it say that SN has the rights to the derivatives? I didn't see that in the article and I haven't read a court ruling that indicates so. So far the only concrete fact is that TP owns the copyright to the animated footage of SDF-Macross and SN owns the designs of SDF-Macross. I would love to see the derivative rights settled conclusively.

  2. well the head cannon is unlimited... which is begs the question eactly how powerful are those lasers? Enough to kill regults with say 5 direct shots?

EDIT IN: And yes I would like a realistic weapons load. I guess that's why I like sims type games for stuff like this.

  3. WOW! I finally got the TGS page to load and hot damn if that's not what a Macross game should look like! I remember seeing RT:BC the first time and thinking "crap" not even going to bother. But this... I may very well shell out for a PS2 and this game.... The Macross in the asteroid field just simply is wickedly cool looking... The Macross firing of the main gun seems a bit weak though.

PS: Does anyone know if you get unlimited ammo? I hate games with unlimited ammo. It's so cheap.

  4. And earth still looks intact. So I would say.... DYRL designs with SDF1 story.... which is lame.

It's been known for a long time that SDF-Macross is the canon story from which all derivatives are based but that DYRL is the visual canon. How is this lame? It's not like oh, we never expected this. Is it revisionist? Yes, but quite frankly I'm glad they went with DYRL visuals AND SDF-Macross story. The best of each world.

  5. Mad skills to be working with markers... That is so unbelievably funny and yet.... cool. I sure hope it gets back to Kawamori!

PS: You know what would be cool is if you could get Kawamori to autograph it.

  6. I must be the odd one here. I don't watch that much anime. I only collect Macross toys and a few oldskool TF's. My number one hobby is dancing (ballroom, Latin, swing, country western, and folk). Aside from that I cultivate orchids (a very expensive hobby for the enthusiasts). I have lots of pets. I have a 10 gal tank that I breed guppies in. Any excess guppies are tansferred to my turtle tank. I have a cocktiel and a Himalayan cat. That's about it. My lifestyle does not leave me with time for much else.

PS: Damn! How did I forget? Another of my all time hobby is women. Wine, dine, and dance them to their hearts content. This hobby, my friends, is an expensive and time consuming hobby not for the weak of constitution.

  7. My one question about HG and BW is, why would HG need to pay BW any more if HG already owns, not licenses those rights.  Maybe I totally misunderstand something that someone has said.  But, it seems to me that TP already made its payment with the rights transfer, and that no more is owed.  Unless HG still makes some payments to BW of which I am not aware.

    Anyone with enlightenment?

Simple, Big West would refuse to hand over any materials (ie. films, line art, reference materials, etc.). It can also tell companies like Bandai and Yamato not to play ball with HG (as in releasing their Valk toys under the Robotech name) because it would negatively effect their business relations... otherwise saying, Big West may no longer give licenses to any company that goes over its head to work with Harmony Gold. If some of us are correct, Toykyo Pop may have put itself in this situation and may have a difficult time directly getting any kind of future rights or exclusives from Big West.

This what I believed all along. BW would not allow TokyoPop to put HG's logo on Macross & Trash because it would imply that HG had some right to any of the Macross derivatives. BW being the primary producer of Macross derivitives cannot allow that because A) they would lose total control over the franchise and B) cut into their profits. It's as simple as that. I don't beleive that TokyoPop will release M7 Trash any time soon. It may explain the removal of all promotional material of M7 Trash from their site.

  8. If anything what a lot of peolple like about dreamwave is not actually the drawing but the COLORS.

I agree. I think people are often impressed by how many layers in Photoshop a comic can use on one page than the actual quality of the art itself. All the colors just serve to really hide the flaws IMO.

  9. I love the 1/48 Yamato VF-1. It rocks.

The only thing I'm disappointed with, and I have to grudgingly admit, is that Toynami did a slightly better job with their super armor. The Yamato super armor is very nice however, and it does allow you to make a strike Valkyrie... the only problem I have with it is that it causes "floppy backpack syndrome" when the 1/48 is in battroid.

if only people would read the instructions or check the boards before making such statements. How many times has this been covered? Or rather how many more times will people keep saying this?

paint job was good until i foudn out almost all colors are painted over and the whole thing is almsot completely molded in WHITE!! even the FEET ARE WHITE PLASTIC NOT MOLDED GRAY !!

Heh. Didn't know this. Probably they wanted to save money. After all, they got a deal on some cheap white plastic. Painting it was a cheaper alternative then to used colored plastic that was higher grade than what they were using.

  10. Also, when that article popped up the next day I remember saying to myself this is point by point what was on the MW message boards yesterday.

Heh, are you serious? I think you're seeing things the way you want to see them.

Interesting, that whole days posts were deleted but justvinnie made this comment:

    Dated Jan. 21, 2003

Seems like someone at ANN reads MacrossWorld. The Jan 20th ruling article was almost a direct copy of the thread in the Series forum. At least someone is paying attention.

    Link

Wow, I'm famous for 5 minutes and no one even bothers to tell me!

And yes, I have very strong suspicions that whoever wrote the article for ANN had simply read the thread on MW. There was an entire chuck of one of my post worded slightly different. In the ends what better source to go to (if not a little bias) than the rabid fans who knows the ins and outs of everything that public?

  11. I find it funny you can't talk about Macross toys on RT.com, but you can talk about any Macross series which in the end amounts to the same thing as talking about the toys since unless we are from Japan we have either import or illegally obtain a copy. In fact, if HG owns everything Macross, why the hell haven't they sued BW for creating derivatives of a show they own?

The only reason we can't talk about Macross toys is because it would hurt their profits due to the shitty mechandise their licensee produce. I wonder if they'll ban talk about any other Macross show than the original once they release their new show?

  12. Yes, I just took a look at episode 27 (Robotech version, my Animeigo DVD's from overstock.com aren't due yet) and I could tell there was a greyish (I guess it was a purplish) ship. I couldn't tell exactly what type of ship she had, but based on the style it seemed to be the same as other Zentradi ships. In Macross Perfect Memory, there's no "special" Laplamiz/female ship type shown in the "Mechanic" lineart section (specifically pages 176-182, which cover the Zentradi star ships)

One might argue that the DYRL designs supersede the TV ones even though the TV continuity is official, but that doesn't appear to be the position taken by the Compendium.

    Edited to add:

Speaking of the Compendium, this item from the Chronology is interesting:

    2010

    April

Establishment of new United Nations Government [new Unity Government]. Education programs for Zentradi begin. Miclone processing of Zentradi applicants begins.

    May

Macross City reconstruction begins. [Macross City reconstruction completed.]

Mass cloning of people as well as animals and plants through the use of Protoculture technology begins.

    (Link here.)

    Yeah also from the Compendium:

    2030

Because of the increase in hereditary children's diseases due to the overuse of cloning, mass cloning is terminated.

Mass cloning turned out to be a disaster.
