  1. This is Awesome, all the details actually made it into production! Can't quite read japanest, can someone explain what is the improvement on the right leg? (i.e. the one without the city detail) Also, does anyone know if there is going to be lighting?

I will definetly save up for this!

  2. Hey vf_1s I just got this inspiration at work from looking at your pics, and I though, has he ever done an upshot of the Macross in Storm Attacker mode like you were really looking up at it from a city street, ie: like that scene from the TV series burst point.

I tried, but I can't... the city's building is so small compare to the storm attacker that if I focus on the city, the rest of sdf-1 would be so blurred that you can't tell what it is.

  3. Absolutely incredible!

Any chance you own a Macross Quarter and have shot the two together? (aren't they the same scale?)

I did took pictures of the Macross Quarter with the sdf-1, however, they are not the same scale. In one of the pictures, you will see the vf-25 is almost 2.5 times bigger than the 1/2000 vf-1. The pictures are in page 3.

    thanks again

    Pat

  4. Hi:

A few people have asked me if I could post bigger pictures, and a few wanted to meet up in person. Sadly, I live in Calgary, and cannot meet up with you guys in person. To make it up, I have attempted to take "bigger" pictures with a better background. You will find some of them bigger than the actual size, but hopefully you can get a closer look and a sense of the size. Sorry it took so long; I haven't been very satisfy with the pictures. I only have a 12 MegaPix Camera, and for the first time, I find that it is not enough to capture all the details and different contrast on the SDF-1.

Here are two more posting in addition to the last 6 sets of picture. I will leave it to the moderator to decide to leave them here or move them to the front (thanks!)

Anyway, enjoy! And thanks for all your support!

  5. Thank you very much for all you have done Graham (including getting clarification on some of our concerns back in November, before I bought the kit)!!!

    Hope you get well soon!

    Sincerely

    Patrick

  6. The guy that did the instructions was given one night to do the whole thing. I bet it's full of mistakes but blame it on the crunch. I wonder if they improved it for the second run.

I think mine was the second run. For the time he was given, I say he did a wonderful job then; for sure I can't do it in one night...

  7. Wow! What can I say that hasn't been said before?! It is truly awesome and inspiring. I am so glad that the good people here at MW are actually building this masterpiece and doing it great justice. I was pining away for this kit, but when I saw the price tag, I just couldn't even entertain the thought - I also thought that everyone who could afford it would just squirrel it away for investment and keep in packaged up. I am so glad that you all built it and did such a wonderful job at it and shared it with all of us! I am truly envious.

Did you mention Cdn prices? Are you in Toronto? If so, I'd love to meet up and admire it in person.

Thanks for the comment. It was an honor to be complemented by Mr. "wm cheng". However, I am in Calgary, not Toronto... Like I said earlier, to make it up, I will post larger pics later... Thanks again averyone!

    Very impressive indeed.

Can I post this SDF-1 to other forums? I will need to upload a few selected photos in an external host for preview, with a link to this thread since outside people can't see the photos until they register on this forum. I can add a "vf_1s @ macrossworld" watermark to the photos before hosting. I think I will post on hkml.net, toysdaily.com and hobbyfanatics.com .

Yes you may. In fact, please feel free to post it anywhere you like. I would love to share it with anyone.

  8. That is THE most beautiful SDF-1 DYRL I have ever and will ever see. Bravo!! I truly envy the owner(Guard that thing with your life, good sir!). As far as I'm concerned, it is the custom to end all customs and is worthy of THE first entry into the Macross Hall of Fame (whenever someone decides that there should be one, that is). Just out of curiosity, does anyone know how much this thing cost from beginning to end. I know the number will be astronomical but knowing will help me sleep at night.

Don't quote me for this, but if I remember right, the kit cost me $2300 Cdn, and shipping was only $130 Cdn (which is less than I thought), paints and supplies may be another $200? Time and trying to plan for the steps is probably the more difficult part. To be honest, it was very hard to force yourself back to the work bench day after day (120+ days...), especially after work and other stuff with the family. In the end, it was more like a job than enjoyment. But I know if I stop, it will never be finished, so I had to do it. And I know this is what I wanted... But seeing that you guys liked it so much, I think it is worth it in the end. If anyone wants to know how to make any of the parts, pls let me know. I wil be happy to share it with you guys. Lastly, if I wanted to share this in a magazine, does anyone have any connection that I can send the pictures to? For one, I can't communicate in Japanese... Anyway, it is not a big deal; having it in MW is already good enough for me.

    Thanks for all the support

    Pat

  9. I wouldn't say that, Kurt. Just a different interpretation. Both are great!

I agree, I think Kurt did a great job too! I know you have very little reference to work with, and you did a great job in interpretating the SDF-1! I especially like how you have turn the small gates of the ARMD into a yellow and orange light. It does give the impression that it is a busy place. Also, the red circle around the bridge and lower body was another great touch. I thought of doing that, it is actually more animate accurate, but it was too bright for my ship, it draws all the attention away from the small white rectangle. Again, you painted the inside of the red circle black, and that tones the red back down, great move!

  10. Even in my better days, I couldn't make something like this. Since I'm here in MW, I NEVER felt so impressed, so thrilled. Man, I'm so jelous! This is a true Masterpice. As Takatoys said, your model should be in each and every Model-kits magazine. Congratulations from the bottom of my heart, and from now, one of my dreams is to see this beauty in person... in fact, if I were Miyakate, I would fly to your house right now.

PD: Thank you for posting so many pictures, but if you could post a few bigger, it should be great!

PD2: Why did you post this in the Toys section? This is a model kit! (even if it was made by a toys factory)

Thanks again for all the comments! This is what gives me Motivation to do things like this. From the bottom of my heart too, this is my salute to the Macross world forum. When I was building the kit, I find wm cheng's step by step on the launch arm very useful. Also RedLion's built up on the Card Model A.R.M.D. was another great reference to the coloring of the ARMD. Long story short, I spend hours and hours finding great references in the MW forum. Thanks!

p.s. I will try to post bigger pictures in the weekend. Is there a size limit?

    p.s. 2 who is Miyakate?

    Thanks

    Pat

  11. Looking at these pics is bittersweet.

Sweet in that this is a masterpiece crafted with crazy skills and superbly detailed.

Bitter in that I currently have either the skill, space or money to own one of these.... :(

Thanks for the comments everyone! I am so glad you guys like it!

  12. Hi all:

I have just finished the 1/2000 Yamato SDF-1 prototype resin kit. I have been working on this every night since I received the kit in February. I would like to take this opportunity to thank two person. First, my wife for letting me get the kit, and her support. Second, Tokyou Hunter for their help in getting the kit, and checking all the parts prior to shipping it off.

Overall, I am very happy with the kit. There is alot of thought that went into the design of the kit. It is more complex compare to the Bandai 1/60 perfect grade kit. While most of the perfect grade are assembled in 2 pieces in every step (2-D assembly), the SDF-1 requires multiple pieces locking a multi angle in the same step (3-D assembly)to minimize the number of screws needes. Even as a mechanical engineer I find this impressive, despite a few error in the construction guide.

As I am seeing more and more 1/2000 kit finishing up, and I am sure alot of people will be customizing their 1/3000 toy in the future, I just wanted to share with you some references I find, what detailing methods are more effective, etc.

Due to the number of pictures, I will divide it up into 6 posting, here are the sections:

    1.)Crusier Mode

    2.)Attack Mode

    3.)Macross City

4.)Detailing and references (and some how-to's)

5.)Mechanical modifications (to make the 12 pound kit more rigid for wooshing it around the house)

    6.)opening scene (just for fun)

7.)size comparison (added later in P.3)

8.)large pictures (added later in P.3)

9.)Construction Manual (added later in P.5)

10.)1/3000 SDF-1 lightly weathered vs. 1/2000 SDF-1 customized (click on link below)

p.s sorry for being so wordy...

    Here are the sections, enjoy!

  13. Well I don't recall seeing anything that was obviously for lights. However I supoose it could be done with all of the hollow space available.

Graham - yeah that SDF looks a bit plain. You would think that Yamato would have really done it up. Well they can hire me to do another one for them. LOL

The inside of both leg has a slot where battery and LED can be stored. Also, the thrusters are molded in transparent plastic, so it can be lid up... but it is alot of work.

  14. Like it or not, they are going to release the 1/2000 HDP kit again due to popular demand, start taking preorder on 5/17.

    SOURCE

Hmmm... interesting. There is a sentence in there that says consideration of possible upgrade parts for the 1/2000 prototype.

    "最大級の組立キットとしてのポテンシャルを探るため、1/2000サイズならではのオプションパーツ類の展開も企画検討開始しています"

This is translation from Worldlingo. Did I translate this correctly???

  15. That was the Wonderfest 2010 [Winter], happened on February 7th 2010. This event occurs twice per year, which small shops and fans may obtain a limited license to sell their garage kits for that day only in very limited number. It is very hard to get those outside of the event, unless someone like e2046 recast the model.

    Oh, too bad. Thanks
