How have I not seen pics of this?

Mostly because I'm terrible at taking pics, usually why I don't blast the boards with recent purchase posts and the like. But I'll get some up tomorrow/Wednesday. :D /

So... I was think about the end game for this series and THE CHILD and it made me think he is actually YODA. But how is that so? Hear me out on this as it involves time travel and a paradox!

    • The Child is a clone of Yoda but is also a younger self of Yoda. Whoa!
    • Along with Ahsoka Tano I suspect we'll see Ezra show up too.
    • Eventually Ahsoka and/or Ezra will take The Child through a time portal that we saw in REBELS, either by accident or on purpose.
    • I bet they go back almost a thousand years since we know Yoda was over 900 years old when he passed in RoTJ.
    • They'll also be taking with them the 'prophecy of the Chosen One' too.

    Thoughts?

Depends on how the series treats the Jedi. The Mandalorian so far has followed the more grounded approach of Rogue One and has so avoided the more fantastic elements of Star Wars.

I don't really see the show runners deviating much from that, even with the inclusion of Ahsoka and any other Jedi, Sith or Force-users. But...who knows, and it's an interesting theory.

That said, I'm totally with you on a stronger connection between Baby Yoda and Old Man Yoda besides just being members of the same species, but flip a coin on how they'll play it. I'd also really like to see a live action Ezra and Sabine but not until the last season(s).

Most episodes of season 1 were like this. Him going to some planet, making some acquaintances and then leaving, or making some side quests. It wasn't until the few last episodes that the overarching story started to appear.

I don't expect this season to be any different.

Exactly. But that said, I wouldn't be surprised if we start to see more of that over-arching theme appear a little bit sooner.

My complaint is that the episodes are too short, can we get an hour each please Disney +????

It all makes sense now!  Baby Yoda is that petulant teen who rebels against everything his parents stand for!

He probably feels that Yoda and Yaddle spent too much time working at the Jedi Council and not enough time taking care of him.

So, what would be the best way to "stick it" to his "model" Jedi parents?  Become of Sith!

    Brilliant!

So, will Father Figure Din have to go Good Will Hunting on Baby Yoda ("It's not your fault, Baby Yo'.")?

Put a cap in him, Old Yeller style?

    Or go full-on Palpatine manipulator?

Hopefully they don't go full-on "subvert the audience's expectations"!

Great looking episode with fun action but they really need to amp the story up some.

Pure filler, boring episode that added nothing at all, sad to say. Just scenes of him wandering, pondering through a quiet ship.

Partially agree with both of you, I enjoyed seeing the

    Spoiler

New Republic and seeing the X-Wings in action, but the story didn't have all of the easter eggs or obvious connection to a larger storyline.

That said, some of this episode could pay off later in the season though. Like we've already joked about I'm having a hard time understanding why they made Baby Yoda such a greedy little bastard and in effect cause the major conflict in this episode, not to mention eating Frog Lady's kids...

I don't get it...The Mandalorian went from ready to spill blood in front of Baby Yoda.....to risking his life and mission to help some hicks in the middle of nowhere?  The Mando is such a softy these days..... but I guess killing the guy would have made for a very short episode...lol

Everything that followed in the episode was great, but it was all based off of a WTF moment........

And if that was Boba Fett at the end.....why hasn't he reclaimed his armor sooner...because the story demanded it?  Maybe it is one of those Clone guys travelling with Ahsoka and Sabine?

Also, why is he having such a hard time finding his Mandalorian folk?  They did not have a contingency plan?  A meet up at on Planet X if all goes to sheet?

With all my nitpicks....the episode was still better than the entirety of the Sequel Trilogy!!! :good:

    Spoiler

Well he was about to kill the Marshal (Timothy Olyphant) but the Krayt dragon showed up. Was that the WTF moment? Or the choice the Mandalorian made to not murder him while the town was rumbling?

My bet is that it was Boba, but it very well could have been a decoy for one of the Clone Troopers.

I didn't watch/finish the Clone Wars animated series and I didn't watch much of Rebels but I gather they've covered a lot of ground with regards to Mandalore and it's culture. I feel like there are probably some answers to why the various cells aren't connected. But it also makes sense from a security standpoint to have those cells remain complexly independent of each other if your culture has almost been wiped out and you're in pure survival mode.

Can't wait to see where the series goes and if all of the pre-drama about the story becoming less "The" Mandalorian-centric is founded or just more internet noise lol.

I REEEEALLY want to, but it'd mean cancelling my VF-4 pre-order to afford it...

VF-4 :touche: Razor Crest... I don't want to choose :cray:!!

    Razor Crest!!!!

Edit - whenever I have similar decisions I always think about what will be (relatively) easier to track down and/or afford on the after market.

If I had to bet, I'd bet that the VF-4 regular or premium may go up by let's say $50-$100 3 to 6 months after release, the Razor Crest is going to freaking skyrocket.

IMO, it actually marks a significant improvement.

I'd have characterized the first two seasons of Star Trek: Discovery as unwatchable regardless of what the title was thanks to the godawful writing and the way the characters seem to despise each other.  That season three's first episode feels like it'd be strong enough to stand on its own merits if it weren't burdened with the Star Trek legacy poking holes in its plot left and right says a lot about how far the writing has come.

"That Hope is You, Part 1" has a few seemingly self-aware moments... most seem to be aimed at die-hard Star Trek fans this time around, instead of being Burnham ignoring epiphanies about what a horrible person she's being.

Booker, for instance, remarks that in 3188 you still sometimes see the true believers in the Federation and its ideals proudly wearing Starfleet badges because they refuse to let the dream die.  Or Sahil's remark about how, despite having never been sworn in as a Starfleet officer, he's manned a Starfleet outpost for the last forty years as a kind of inherited family duty from his father and grandfather waiting and hoping for a real Starfleet officer to arrive and raise the Federation flag once again.

In a way, it seems to echo the fanbase's discontent with "new Trek" and how they've held out hope for the appearance of a worthy successor to the title.

Fair point, I think I'll start my viewing of Discovery with season 3.

If they took the "Star Trek" out of the title and just presented it as an all-original sci-fi series called Discovery from season 3's start onward, it would be an engaging show that I might actually be willing to pay for a subscription to follow.

Not sure why, but as a Star Trek fan that thought/idea strikes me as pretty tragic.

CBS really should have just let Star Trek as a property rest a bit after Star Trek: Beyond.
