  1. Nice! Reminds me of this pic I made a couple of years ago using Jay-Lew's excellent 3d model. ::EDIT::oops, wrong version.
  2. You still have to know how to use it though. Same goes for photographers.
  3. Go to a brick 'n mortar store and try a couple of different cameras and check out their UI. Knowing your way around the camera's buttons and UI means you make that perfect shot or miss it. Also make sure the camera fits your hand. I bought a 450D last year and after two months I sold it and got a 40D. The 450D was just too small to use comfortably. I'd have two fingers under the camera's body instead of on the grip where they're supposed to be.
  4. Agreed! Don't sell your DJ equipment just yet. Get an entry level camera with a kitlens and see if you enjoy photography and do a night course like wizartar said. Build up a portfolio and start taking paid jobs. With the money made from those paid jobs buy better/more expensive equipment.
  5. Hills? What's a 'hills'? I wish we had the kind of scenery vegas has to shoot pics at. Awesome pics vegas, nice car too!
  6. Thanks everybody! There was some overcast so pics will look a bit dark. More pics here.
  7. I Got an all acces pass to a race at the local track last weekend and though I'd share some pics. The first one was already posted in the photography thread.
  8. Finally got time to post up some pics. Wanna see more? PM me and I'll post some in the car thread.
  9. Nikon? pfff never! I got myself the Canon 70-200 mm f2.8 L IS USM lens. link I just found out that besides the besides truck races, there'll be GT type races with Lamborghinis, Ferraris, Aston Martins etc. Can't wait! ::EDIT:: BTW. One thing I don't like about Canon's L range tele lenses is the fact that they're white.
  10. Just picked up my shiny new 70-200 f2.8! I got an all acces pass for a truck racing event tomorrow (never been to a truck race before, should be fun to watch 1000hp trucks fighting for space on a track) so I with any luck I'll be able to post some decent pics tomorrow night. I took a couple of test shots around the house and I'm amazed at how sharp the pics are compared to my 17-85 mm lens.
  11. The only rebates we're getting over here (Netherlands) at the moment are for printers and I've already got one of those. Nice choice for the wide angle lens there. You'd better start saving up for a full frame camera with all those L lenses you've got.
  12. So, you selling the house? More on that $120.000 lens here. In other news; I just ordered my 70-200 lens. It's not in stock at the moment but they hope to get new stock tomorrow or else next week. please, please please let it be tomorrow!
  13. Canon FTW!!!11ONE j/k. They both make great camera's, it's all up to personal preference. When you watch a sports event, the white lenses are Canons. http://viz.cwrl.utexas.edu/files/CanonShades.jpg http://farm1.static.flickr.com/45/152386454_fa67e5da89.jpg
  14. The major reason for me to get the 580 would be the fact that it can act as a (grand ) master flash while the 430 can only act as slave flash but the $130 difference in price still made me go with the 430 II. ::EDIT:: I'm still jealous though.
  15. Ooh nice! Why did you choose the 580 over the 430 if you don't mind me asking?
  16. There you go, the perfect lens for your needs! It's an L EF lens with lots of zoom range and it's cheaper than the 24-70. BTW: Canon's L range is their pro range meaning they're built to last. Besides the difference in picture quality, if you ever want to know why you're paying so much extra for an L lens go to a shop and hold an L lens and a 18-55 kitlens.
  17. True, but for this thread to stay in the toy section, we should only be discussing how to take better pics of our collection. If we start giving each other advice on lenses, tripods and other equipment, we'd stray off topic and might get the thread closed. The computer and electronics supergeek thread is a good example of a similar type of thread where members get and give advice on computers etc.
  18. Another awesome update, great job mr. March!
  19. The 17-55 is a good option too, but IS isn't too important to have at focal lengths shorter than 55 mm unless you're a recovering drug addict in need of a hit. It always helps, but it's put to better use on a telephoto/zoom lens.
  20. Shouldn't this thread be in the "Anime or Science Fiction" section, like the other "off topic" thread?
  21. Forget about the 18-200, it compromises everything for zoom range. Instead of getting two separate lenses for the 20 mm and the 35 mm, why not go with a 17-40 mm f4 lens, or a 24-70 mm f2.8? I wouldn't recommend the 18-55 kitlens either, the 24-70 mm has enough range to act as your walk-around lens and the 70-300 would match up great in zoom range. So basically, by getting a 24-70 mm, you save cash on a crappy 18-55 mm, an moderately priced 20 mm and a moderately priced 35 mm. I've got a 40D with a 17-85 mm kit lens which is ok, but has some severe barrel distortion at wide angle. I'm currently saving up for a 70-200 mm f2.8 IS and after that a 10-22 mm. After that I might get the 24-70 and get rid of the 17-85. You wanna read up on canon lenses? Go here. The digital picture
  22. What are you talking about? Zardoz is one of the EPIC sci-fi movies. It's right up there with Alien and Bladerunner AFAIC.
  23. Great pic, but what's up with all the patchwork on the upper fuselage?
