  1. I have this sinking feeling that even though the Kairos doesn't just call out to me, I'll try to get one anyway. The Chronos looks superior in every conceivable way, to my eye. It's too bad that we likely won't see a reissued Chronos with the same engineering improvements featured in the Siegfried.

  2. I am absolutely fine with paying in full up front for a pre-order so long as I have some confidence that I will receive what I ordered. Knock on wood, but I've not been burned in this way by any sizable retailer yet.

  3. I haven't commented on a single episode until now, but man, am I disappointed. This whole series was just a humongous "meh." Am I wrong in being sick and tired of the recycling of so many of the plot elements of so many previous Macross series? For God's sakes, give us something new. I despise that as time goes forward, so many Macross characters are becoming younger and younger and have less experience in their designated roles. Isamu was a talented and reckless hotshot *military* pilot. How are we expected to believe that a little kid like Hayate has any piloting experience or sense of aerial tactics whatsoever? This character has no appeal to me in any capacity. Shin started out as a pilot before learning how to fly a Valkyrie. Who in the hell knows how Basara learned to fly, but I have no problem in believing that he's got more talent than Hayate - even if he's using one of the goofiest control schemes imaginable.

I'm almost saddened to think now that for as much as I disliked this series on the whole, I'm *still* going to end up buying Messer's VF-31F... and I already know that I like the YF-30 infinitely more than the VF-31. It really frustrates me how I feel like the first episode of the series might have had some (hidden) potential to become interesting, but the whole thing completely flamed out early. This series was hands down my least favorite of all of the Macross series.

  4. It brings me tremendous pleasure to be able to post this photo:

You'll have to excuse the quick camera phone quality (infants are very demanding of one's time), but the key takeaway is that Xigfrid's new set of replacement reaction missile pylons for the armored VF-25 renewal series gets my full recommendation. These are a fantastic replacement for any broken originals which you may have. I sincerely appreciate Xigfrid going back to the drawing board and refining his original pylons, as I had some concerns about the first batch. (See my previous photos in this thread.) Every single issue was addressed, and these are as spot-on perfect a replacement part as I could ask for. The reaction missiles are straight and parallel, the pylons touch the armor pieces correctly, and the quality of the plastic is top notch. Thanks very much for this fine work, Xigfrid!

  5. Oh, derp! I haven't followed up on this thread in a very long time! I will be in touch with you right away. Sorry for the delay.

Received the new pylons today and I tested them quickly. They are much better now, perhaps a little too tight: I had to slightly sand the peg before inserting it into the armor part.

Axelay leave me your address in PM so I can send you one FOC.

  6. OK, I received the Shapeways parts yesterday. Sorry for the not-so-great quality photos, but I was trying to shoot these with my camera to show some comparisons.

First off, here's what I received. Both pylons are attached, and need to be carefully removed and sanded a bit.

Here's a shot of my one OEM intact pylon alongside the Shapeways replacement part. At first glance, the only thing different is the texture of the plastic and the detail "etching" in the OEM part.

However, upon attachment, this is where I started to find some things which are just slightly different. For starters, here's the OEM pylon to illustrate how it sits on the end of the armor pack booster. I specifically put an arrow to show how the front end of the pylon makes contact with the armor pack. This causes the angle of the missiles to face almost completely straight forward in alignment with the nose of the fighter.

Here's what it looks like with the missiles attached to the OEM pylon. This is port side, with the nose facing west. The missiles are almost perpendicular to the bottom of the photo.

But now here are the Shapeways parts... Note in the top arrow that the pylon does not quite touch the end of the armor pack booster, and this causes the alignment of the missiles to cant way outward. The lower arrow illustrates this.

Here's a shot of the OEM pylon (port side) with the nose facing south. As you can see, the OEM pylons don't let the missiles face quite perpendicular to the nose but it's pretty close.

And here's one more of the Shapeways part. The outward facing angle is much more obvious...

This is really quite a good attempt, but the ultimate angle of the reaction missiles when mounted seems off by just enough to not let my OCD let it go. I also might need to try to put some Future floor polish on the connection peg which goes into the armor pack booster, as it is ever so slightly thinner than the port and doesn't hold securely. If I were to jostle the Valkyrie while on its stand, the pylons will fall out. This is so close to being a solution to my problem, but it needs just a *slight* bit of adjustment.

  7. I finally got to see an English sub of this. Let me say straight off that I am a huge fan of Macross 7. Delta, though...? It's difficult for me to contain my dislike of this. Whoever thought that infusing Sailor Moon into Macross was a good idea needs to never have anything to do with anime ever again. With what little I've seen, I just can't even take this series seriously. For as dedicated a Macross fan as I have been for years, this may truly be the curtain call for me.
