  1. According to the Rebels show (which is now considered canon), Interdictor Cruisers are capable - within proximity - of both pulling ships out of hyperspace as well as preventing "realspace" ships from jumping to lightspeed. I don't think that there's any sort of "safety" associated with not being able to escape from this ability. It's just depicted as a gravity well.

Didn't they?  I mean, they wiped out a solid division of Imperial ground troops including multiple armored fighting vehicles using nothing fancier than napped-stone weapons, arrows, and logs tied to ropes.  They had the advantage of numbers and the element of surprise, and they seemingly did enough damage to the Empire's forces on Endor to start repurposing captured Imperial kit as household items.

I've wondered how long they had to prepare. They had probably been studying the Imperial forces for at least a few months - probably with heavy casualties. Those AT-ST traps didn't just crop up overnight, I would imagine. They were probably much more prepared than the Empire had ever given them credit for. I mean, Vietnam and Afghanistan have historically demonstrated that superior technology and training don't necessarily guarantee the outcome of a military engagement.

  3. I also found that TIE Defender video a few days ago, and I did not hesitate to Bricklink the parts for it. I can't believe how much better that one looks than the stock Lego version. I can hardly wait to start building once everything is here. Curiously, the most obscure part in the whole build is the cone-shaped piece which goes on the rear of the fuselage.

What I and many people are complaining about is the lack of coherency or continuity in TLJ with the films that came before it. There were things that were already known or established in the prior films that contributed to the lore (regardless of how stupid it may be) which TLJ totally ignored or contradicted (and not in a good way, meaning it contradicted it in a manner that made less sense or became even more stupid). I don't need to elaborate on these things any more since there's enough on that already.

Quoted for GREAT truth. Most spot-on post in the whole thread... from my point of view. ;)

  5. Aaaargh. C'mon, Retrobit, give me a new Dreamcast! I'm gonna buy those wireless controllers even if that's all they have up their sleeves. I wonder how they will work with VMUs? And supposing that a new Dreamcast is forthcoming, I wonder if original VMU savegame files would be compatible with it? That would be AMAZING.

Do we have an official timeline as to how old Kylo Ren is, and when he wrecked Luke's academy?  Even if we say Ben was born a year after Endor, that still puts his turning around 15 years before TLJ, and that leaves a ton of time to fill in somehow.  Luke wasn't gone that whole 30 years.

I also have a big problem with this. I feel like it's safe to assume that Luke was still able to commune with Yoda after ROTJ, but we don't know that for certain now. If we are expected to believe that Luke wouldn't have consulted with him when he sensed something evil growing within Ben Solo... that just seems ridiculous to me. Especially with the amount of time which had passed. That thought never crossed his mind before he "closed himself off to the Force?" Even more so, would Luke have kept his ability to commune with Yoda, Obi-Wan, and even Anakin a secret from his new apprentices? I kinda feel like at some point Luke might have "introduced" his nephew to his grandfather. Yoda evidently taught Obi-Wan how to commune with Qui-Gon, so why wouldn't Luke also pass this knowledge along? And here's a real stretch for you - remember that brief little scene in ROTS where Yoda is meditating and he hears Qui-Gon saying "Anakin... Anakin, noooo!" That leads me to believe that Force ghosts are able to sense/observe things going on in the world of the living and could possibly interject or at least reach out to those who are attuned to them. Wouldn't Yoda or Obi-Wan or Anakin (now wouldn't that be interesting?) have said to Luke "um... hey, I think there's some bad stuff going on in this little one's head and we should try to work out some way to help him... without killing him in his sleep, y'know."

I am so tired of overthinking this movie. I can't believe that I hate it as much as I do.

All this talk about TFA and TLJ reminds me of a better version of a post-Endor story.  Time to bust out the Heir to the Empire trilogy again.

Amen to that. I find it very interesting how Thrawn and the TIE Defender (and evidently Rukh! I need to catch upon Rebels) have been canonized after so many years.

I would be completely happy to Eternal Sunshine the whole Last Jedi from my memory. I can't get over how much I can constantly find to nitpick about it. I do wonder how in the world JJ is going to attempt to piece together a story in the next movie, but I'm truly not sure that I care that much any more. (Certainly not as much as I did before having seen TLJ.)

  8. I think that my staggering (and continuously-growing) level of dislike for this movie has given me an all-new appreciation for Rogue One.

I laugh whenever I see the Nissan tie-in-marketing commercials on TV. I'm like "TIE Fighters? You don't have to worry about those. The First Order would never think to use those against your slow-moving vehicle. They are far too dumb for that."

  9. I will completely lose my nut if there is indeed a retro Dreamcast forthcoming. If there is any miracle that it would have a network port and online capability, just think of some of the incredible potential for this system to live again. Soul Calibur, Power Stone 1+2, Project Justice, Marvel vs. Capcom 2, Street Fighter 3 Third Strike... oh, my. Perhaps my greatest hope come true would be Phantasy Star Online. I'd love nothing better than to jump through these kinds of hoops in order to be able to resurrect the files from my old VMUs...

  10. Just saw this earlier, and am still processing. But, as a die-hard fan of the X-Wing and TIE Fighter games, I have to make one assertion which has driven me NUTS.

    Spoiler

Yeah, you know what this is. And you know what it's for? Attacking capital ships. Apparently, the First Order doesn't know that. The whole plot element about a fleet of Star Destroyers attempting to chase down a lone MC80 (I presume) was like a slap in my face - especially when they just showed how TIEs were more than capable of overtaking it. Grand Admiral Thrawn would be utterly ashamed of every fleet tactician in the First Order. I can't even take the First Order seriously as threat any more.

As for Apache, I gotta be honest, he was never really on my radar.  I think his bot mode and helicopter mode looks ok, but his car mode just looked awful.  It looks even worse to me in reviews, where it's not at that 3/4 angle.  The shoulder articulation and that transformation really just cemented my decision to pass on him.  I'm still curious to see how MMC and XTB's Springer's shake out, but for $60 I've got Big Spring sitting in my stash at The Chosen Prime, just waiting for Unique Toys' Onslaught to come out so I can save on shipping.

I absolutely agree with you on Apache. Robot mode and helicopter mode look great, but car mode is the dealbreaker to me. The thing which still has me interested in MMC's Saltus is that the car mode looks passably like a car. I feel like that's the most difficult mode to accomplish with Springer, so I am holding out on everything else until after I see what the finished product is going to look like. I wish they'd hurry right along and show off some fully painted prototypes.

  12. I don't like the VF-31F's head one single bit. It is my least favorite head design of any of the Valkyries which I have ever owned. However... I do really like the paint scheme of Messer's. If I could swap the head for another variant (which matched the paint scheme), then I would be quite pleased.

  13. I'm in the minority, but... meh. I still like the silhouette/profile of the YF-30 Chronos infinitely more than that of the Kairos. Shame that the Chronos can't have the excellent torso engineering of the VF-31.
