Did anyone noticed that the arrows on the head on the toy prototype in Mr K’s office is black? Thought it was supposed to be yellow?

Yellow head marks are for DYRL, black for TV. I think it has been accepted that the first preview shots simply had an error in them.

I thought the yellow strips on the hands were reflective strips similar to those seen on aircraft (like the ones on the side of the VF nose section), and the same for all VF-1 schemes - if so, that pale yellow is correct?

Yeah the things that show up as pale yellow are marked as “lights“ in diagrams I looked at, just like the two darker red circles by the ankle or the metallic red on the wing and tail tips. As someone who stressed out a lot over what color Roy yellow should be, I still want to emphasize that I am 95% confident that they used “Reaction Missile Tip Yellow” for the Roy Special trim.

As far as I can tell, she doesn't say thing about the red triangles specifically in the narration.  She doesn't really say anything about the paint except that it has skull markings because he is skull leader, is the best I can make out.  But I'm definitely still learning japanese, so maybe someone else can pick something out.

I think the actual answer is something along the lines of basically (literally?) every other TV valk has red shoulder triangles, so when people who are used to coloring TV valks go to do the triangles, they make them red, without realizing that Skull Leader (generally) has yellow triangles,  But that is just my theory.

She actually does talk about the yellow and black being his special colors FWIW

I’m in for one Roy if I can get it. I’ll wait for the DYRL version then maybe get 2. But I do prefer Hikaru. I think I’m going to get 2 kakizakis. Hopefully they come out with a 1S max.

I am coming out with a DX 1S Max by August if you want one :D you can also get it with weathering and/or panel lining!

Unfortunately that's not completely right. The name and the rank on the canopy make it impossible :(

Well, you would have one or two options to deal with that. You could make a set of waterslide decals to cover up the old rank and name, which I know works, because I have done it. Or you could just pretend that Hikaru was sentimental and kept Roy‘s name on there.

Only reason why I got and paid extra for Hikaru's VF-1S was based on fear that I wouldn't get the original VF-1S.  At least I would have the 2nd best known VF-1S.

I mean, with your username, how can you not get this one?

That's what I will be doing.

Bandai and other companies limiting pre-orders to a specific number of units rather than giving a time period and fulfilling all orders has always been bizarre to me. They could make so much more money that way.

I feel like they could REALLY make a lot more money by charging an extra 5000 for this one (because release stand? Who really acres about their rationale) they must have some idea what the Hikaru 1J sell for in the aftermarket? Hate to say it, but they seem to be putting it too far below what people are perceiving to be its market value, and THAT is what really opens it up for the scalpers.

Not to mention that we may not see a DYRL release for awhile. Likely would be a Max or Hikaru 1A.  Gonna call it that DYRL Roy will be TWE.

Or you can just get one from me :D

I really doubt we'll be getting articulated TV hands, they'd need to use some sort of ball or miniature figma joints, and it'd be quite fragile in either case.

The rounded "clown hands" are a really bad design for articulating at this size.

Also, I'm no slave to animation accuracy (and really it's not like the series didn't have a ton of inconsistencies anyway, though still a head above Transformers), and really think the Micky Mouse Gloves look bad. That said, maybe there is a market for such hands? Perhaps someone like Keith's Fantasy Club would make them if enough people wanted them and committed to buy for $25 a pop. Though Bandai seems a lot more on top of stopping 3rd Party Stuff than Takara, I don't think there's anything about Balloon hands with a certain size ball joint for the wrist that would be copyrightable.

This. In the music world, guitar companies often produce “signature” models based on the look of an instrument owned and used by a famous guitarist. Occasionally there will be technical features different from the standard edition, but usually just mimicking the look.

Since it wasn’t the only VF-1S on the SDF-1, I really think what made Roy’s special was the paint scheme and the fact that he flew it.

Actually, it seemed like it really WAS the only 1S you ever saw on the TV show. They were common enough in DYRL but on TV there was really just the one 1S a couple of 1J and a whole sea of 1A.

So the Roy figure comes with an atmospheric type helmet and not with a space one, right? Same kind Hikaru VF-1J and Max VF-1A if i remember correctly.

This made me go back and see if they wear space suits in space :p turns out they do! Funny though, if we get 2 different Isamu with a YF-19, why not 2 pilots with the TV Version Figures? Makes sense for DYRL since it's just the one space suit, but not for TV

Apologies if it was pointed out already...anyone else notice the “Skull Leader” above the Modex number?

    Chris

Yeah, that’s a difference between DYRL and TV figures. The 1J says “Vermillion Leader” in the same spot. The Hikaru 1S says nothing.

i like the new headsculpt....and the shade of yellow they used (inaccurate though it may be and i 'm sure our resident color expert would agree on the accuracy part).    black arrows is better.  The hands .... those are not tv hands but maybe they will have some fixed pose tv hands too?

SO when the info comes out in 2 days.....and we know the preorder lunacy date....what a guy's best option?  have every link refreshed?  NY, AMZN jp, amiami, hlj, bignjapan, cdjapan, AE....  i wonder how much the initial markups will be after the firsrt .5 seconds of msrp.

I think I see what they did with the color of yellow (assuming that the pic with the black arrows is direct from Bandai/more accurate, cause the magazine yellow looks totally different haha). It seems to me that they just straight up used the paint they had lying around from the tips of the reaction missiles. I strongly considered matching that more orangish yellow on my customs, but looking at the source material and paint codes, ultimately opted against it. I see what they did though, wanted Roy to not clash if he was sporting some non-radioactive nukes.

Will see how this goes and maybe hope for a Max 1s (which is wishful thinking right now)?

I will be turning a whole batch of DYRL Hikaru 1S into Max 1S over the next month. If you want to get in on that LMK:)

Thanks. My Japanese is very bad and as you can tell, I couldn’t make out some of the missing words in the sentences by inference. To me, this little paragraph didn’t seem to tell us much except that the TV style super parts won’t be released shortly after November.

I don't think the authors of the piece were Bandai in the form of a press release, more like the magazine just got pictures and a release date to do a teaser.

I am still very intrigued by the little caption box on the top right of the magazine scan, so have tried to make out what I can and put it into google translate.  I can’t make out the beginning of the last sentence at all. I think the gist is that they are working on the TV super parts (interesting that “missiles” were mentioned) because of the different shape and we will just have to wait.

I think the key here is the headline (which wasn't in the google translation) which is "What is going on/going to happen with the option parts?" and based on the rest of the tone of the paragraph that follows, it's just pure speculation (which may be lost in translation).

Ah i see. Thank you for clarifying. I was anticipating a Roy vf-1s dx eventually, but not a tv version. Guess i will have to wait a little longer for the DYRL version to go with Hikaru's.

If you( or anyone else) only want to wait a month for a DYRL Roy, you can get in on next month's batch. You can also have it weathered and panel lined with SSP and even missiles to match :D

  18. 5 minutes ago, TrickyCustomer said:

So if you were to slap a set of dyrl ssp on, the only noticeable thing would be the pilot color?

Depends on how OCD you are. Some of the decals, like the the "Prometheus" on the tail and the small "skull leader" near the nose aren't on the Hikaru DYRL 1S

  19. 17 minutes ago, Paco Grande said:

Thank you for the info. Yes I was aware of the pilot differences but in battloid mode the pilot is hidden anyway so I'm thinking it may not matter. I am somewhat OCD though so I can see the difference in markings bugging me......

If you still really want a DYRL Version of Roy, and even SSP weathered and/or panel lined to match, I will still make you one B)) Now I figure it will be a long time before Bandai makes another Roy haha

  20. Well this was quite a thing for me to wake up to here in pacific time! Looks like most people who ordered one of my Roys went with the DYRL version anyway, probably because they were going to get a DYRL pilot regardless. And hey, I really did anticipate exactly what the cockpit name/rank markings on the figure would look like. So that's pretty good right? Well, the next announced figure from my little venture is a DYRL 1S Blue Max, and I really don't think Bandai will now turn around and announce they are going to make that... unless @sqidd orders three.

  21. Here's a question I have had kicking around my head for a while, and this is as good a place as any to ask it I figure. I collected MP transformers for a while but that world is just lousy with knockoffs of varying quality. It made it difficult to get an MP TF from anyone except maybe a forum member with a sterling reputation. My question is this, with what Bandai DX figures (overall, not even just Macross) sell for, why haven't there been knockoffs?!? Don't get me wrong, I am GLAD there don't seem to be any as that's a huge headache for most collectors. But what is it that makes the difference? Are transformers just an order of magnitude more popular? Does Bandai just have really aggressive lawyers that Takara lacks? Any info, or even wild conspiracies would be great ^_^

April 2019 or April 2020? And was the company you ordered from JP based or otherwise? JUst getting the general situation. All of my orders are JP based and sent via DHL. The delays came from my local Customs clearance.

April 2020 from Nin-Nin Games, I think they are Japan Based, but it's my first time using them.
