  1. Just bought one off Amazon, so no longer looking.

Looking for one in new/excellent condition,  doesn't have to be MISB. Hoping to not pay ebay scalper prices.

PM me if you have one to let go of. I can pay via PayPal.

    Gene

  2. I thought the yellow strips on the hands were reflective strips similar to those seen on aircraft (like the ones on the side of the VF nose section), and the same for all VF-1 schemes - if so, that pale yellow is correct?

  3. Got my second one from Amazon Japan (3 day shipping again!). This specimen also has the uneven wings in battroid mode, and it looks to have a few minor paint blemishes here and there that my first one didn't have. It does have tighter tabs for the arms in fighter mode, so this one will stay that way mostly.

Don't try this with the included flight stand...

From where? I'm still looking. Anyone with one for sale PM me please.

There was a vendor on Amazon Japan that was still shipping to the US, and had 2 left this morning (both gone now). It was more than I wanted to spend, but still better than ebay, and Amazon Global Express shipping is super fast (3-4 days) which makes it easier to swallow.

  5. Dammit, I caved and bought another. Just love both B and F modes, gotta have at least 1 of each to play with. I was going to try holding out for the inevitable VF-1S release, but this guy has rekindled my love of the classic Vermillion VF-1J deco, like my very first Joons Chunky.

I opened and transformed my second one and I noticed that in Battroid mode, the wings are not straight (flat) flushed in parallel with each other.

Mine has that issue also.  If you look on the Amazon Japan reviews, there are some pics of a someone else's with the same problem. It may be an issue of one of the actual wings being slightly warped, vs something at the wing pivot point.

  7. Given the trend of OS 3rd party transformers, I wonder what the likelihood is of another company KOing the Bandai 1/48 at a larger scale (1/24 or 1/32?) with some of these listed "ultimate VF-1" improvements.

  8. Looking for one in any decent displayed/played-with condition - preferably the Origin of Valkyrie that comes with the heatshield to swap w/ the canopy, but I'd also consider the earlier reissue. Don't need the box, missiles, gun, or gun clip.

That one of the oversized 3rd party Starscream molds?  Looks good alongside it. :D

Yes, it's the Robot Hero OS Starscream (about 1/45 scale). They are a bit more matched in size in robot mode. If Starscream were closer to 1/48, they'd see eye-to-eye.

    Main nit-picky points -

    1. The leg connection is useless.  The instant I disconnected the legs from the chest, the bar fell out, and I was holding the legs in one hand, and the rest of the valk in the other.  If you don't care about perfect transformation, that's fine I guess?  But I don't know if a waist swivel is worth that lack of sturdiness.

I see the leg connection as a good and bad thing. I've been just removing the legs for transformation, to avoid stress on the swing bar hinges since the legs are so heavy. It does allow for the waist articulation, but if you don't use that feature, I'd just tape or glue it closed and be done with it.

is that a OVERSIZED Starscream. ?

Yup, it's the Robot Hero OS MP-11 (roughly 1/45), I painted it in toy colors.  I think the Tanaka OS KO is closer to 1/48.

My apologies if this was already posted and I missed it. Interesting though.

That's cool and all, but I'd love to see someone pull off integrated side covers. Maybe some photo-etched metal parts would be thin enough to fit.

    Have you tried here??

    Thanks, I'll take a look!

I wonder if I'm just really lucky with my 2 copies, or if there's something being missed by those with the arm tabbing issue in fighter mode. Both of mine tab in very securely with no signs of it trying to dislodge itself. They don't need the gunpod or legs to help keep them in place, and they're both aligned with each other and no need for offsetting.

Yeah, my example doesn't have any issues with arms tabbing either.  I think someone posted earlier to only slide the arms back enough to align the backplate tabs with the arms holes (don't lock the shoulder hinges into the detent), and everything should generally be fine.  It's not a click lock, but holds well once the legs are tabbed in place.

  14. Where's the best place to get a set of VF-1 1/48 decals or stickers for the missing warning symbols? I used to use Takatoys back in the day, but I think he only makes 1/60 sets now?

After playing around with this all day, I can say the only issues I have are the loose ventral fins and nosecone. One of my wing flaps was bowed a bit down in the middle, but I was able to straighten it out with hot water.

Now my big problem is I love battroid and fighter mode equally... must... resist... buying... another... (I'm determined to wait for Focker 1S).
