  1. Holy cow!!! What scale are those kits??

These are my Macross Studio HalfEye kits. I believe these are officially non-scale. They are something between 1:100 and 1:75. The only two that contain any scale info are the two YF-21's in the top right (see attached pic). They are the same kit in the same scale but one is called 1:100 and the other 1:75. These were event only releases. The normal release which came later again is the same kit but it doesn't contain any scale info.

All of the normal releases I got at retail from HobbyLinkJapan for between $200 and $300 as I recall. The one I paid through the nose to get was the 1998 August 25 Event-only FAST Pack release of the VF-5000 talked about here. I've only seen it on Yahoo Japan once and it wasn't cheap. I've seen a few of the more limited normal releases reach 1K plus on Yahoo Japan too but that isn't how I got those.

With all due respect. I don't want to bring up discussions that we shouldn't be bringing up on projects like this. But if you went through "official channels" there's no way this kit would be this price. Too many hands in the cookie jar syndrome.

Agreed. And this will be my last post on this topic here. Any future questions PLEASE take to PM.

WOW! what is that?! the blue one below the YF-21

There is more to MacrossWorld then just the forums. ;)

  2. Don't tell me you never ever spend that much $$ on a kit.

I believe you're on the same side.

We are... I've spent well over 1K on kits before. Just haven't in a while.

  3. All,

I'm a big twisty puzzle fan and just saw this video on YouTube.

I must confess I'm not as big a fan of twisty puzzles made out of legos BUT Macross models made out of legos is a totally different story. Anyone remember my thread about the Lego König Monster?

    1-vb6.jpg

So has anyone thought of making Lego Macross models and posting them here?

    http://designbyme.lego.com/en-US/default.aspx

I did some clicking around over there and I assume you can open up your model for others to purchase but I must confess I didn't immediately see how. My hunt years ago for the Lego König Monster design ended up leading no where but I'd still pay and arm and a leg for one if someone could reverse engineer it from the pics I have.

But this thread isn't just for the Lego König Monster. It's more of a request for you lego builders/macross fans to start making some of your creations available to us fans which may not be as good on the lego design front. If this site is ran anything like Shapeways I would hope that it would let you add a mark up for yourself and allow you to make some hard cold cash off of some of your great creations.

And please please please... someone recreate this Lego König Monster.

  4. I actually used to work with an artist named Jason Lewis, 10+ years ago. ... I'll see if I can get in touch with him...

Double WOW!!!! I'm SO glad I mentioned him. I'd be willing to bet it was the same person and I'd love to see what could happen if you two worked together on something. At the very least invite him back to MacrossWorld.

    Carl

  5. WOW!!!!

These pics made me think of the guy that made this:

Here are links to his threads:

    VF-1A Opinions

Jay-Lew's CG models were my favorites at the time. This looks to be bumping the bar up another notch.

By the way, the last post I see of Jason was in August of 2008. He gave a link to his 3D art web site:

    http://www.jasonlewisart.com/

Which is gone now. Anyone know what became of Jason and his project?

    Carl

  6. NICE!!!

I also have to redo all the decals from scratch because the original file was lost, but that'll be a labor of love.

    I found this:

    decals.jpg

Did you ever post a larger version? If so I might have saved it and I'll look around on my PC tonight.

    Carl

  7. Honestly, I would feel more comfortable with 21-22. It seems that one order may not be certain.

Any way to advertise this outside MacrossWorld? I've seen kits that aren't near as nice as this will be sell for $1K plus on eBay and Yahoo Japan. I have a few of them myself. Not sure how to pull that off but I doubt you are getting a full exposure to your market here. Then again I realize there may certainly be reasons why you don't want too much exposure.

    Just thinking out loud,

    Carl

  8. Good project, I hope if this goes well the beta will follow, maybe the armored version

Drool!!! I hope so.... but let's get this one first. I can't aford both at the same time.

    Carl

  9. Not in principle, though we're still at least 6 places short of a go.

Umm... Don't forget to tell your friends about the project?

I sent Shawn here a week or so ago. He was glad to see this project alive again. Come on guys... just 6 more are needed. And those of you getting 1... think about 2. After one of these is finished and pics get out I would think odds are good that you could sell one on eBay and nearly cover the cost of two.

    Carl

  10. USD$140x6= USD$840...

Yes, but those 6 installments will be 2 months apart. So that comes to $70/month for a year. My kit collecting has really slowed down the last several years but that is a small fraction of what I was throwing at this at my peak. It seems very reasonable to me and I'm very greatful he's set this up as he has where the payments can be spread across a year.

    Carl

  11. I would need an absolute minimum of 20 orders to even kick things off.

I'm still in for 3. This will be the holy grail of my kit collection. The only kit that could trump it would be a John Moscato Tread to go with this Legioss, but one step at a time.

    Carl

John, I'm not as familiar with this project as some of the others so what size will IT be when it's finished please?

Here is a link that should help...

    http://www.macrossworld.com/mospeada/john_moscato/_main_john_moscato.htm

    Carl

  12. I have not type the words "I'm in" yet,

Good point. I'm IN. Times 3... one to build in each mode.

John, any chance for variants (or kits that would allow the variants to be built)?

    AFC-01H Legioss Officer Model (Blue)

AFC-01Z Legioss Atmosphere Combat Model (Red)

AFC-01I Legioss Standard Combat Model (Green)

AFC-01M Mujin Legioss Unmaned Armo-Fighter Drone

AFC-01D Dark Legioss Stealth System Equipped Model (Dark Blue-Black and Gray)

AFC-01J Jagd Dark Legioss Stealth Drone(Dark Blue-Black and Gray)

There are a few others you can see here:

    The Imai Files

    AFC/S-B1 Legioss Interceptor (page 91)

AFC/3-B Heavy Armor Legioss (page 92)

AFC/S-02 Deep Reconnaissance Legioss (page 93)

AFC/R-01 Ground Combat Legioss (page 94 and 95)

The first 3 of these I don't think are doable but I think the Ground Combat Legioss is just a few parts added onto AFC-01H so I think it could make a great supplemental kit.

I too would like a boxed Cyclone in 1/32 scale. Any chance it could fit into the Legioss?

    cyclone-storage.gif

And any weapon add-ons that have been seen? What about the second gun seen in this pic?

  13. After almost a decade in a dormant state...

No PM... no email... yet something told me to check macrossworld today. WOW!!!! I've NEVER been se excited to see a cardboard box in my entire LIFE!!!!

Bring her back from the grave and make her FLY!!!!!

    Please....

    Carl

  14. Assuming that I can get sufficient demand to resurrect it, you'd likely be looking at 7 big ones price-wise, including screws, acrylic pieces & decals. My idea was to break it down into 6 modules, with me offering one module every 1-2 months: this makes the price easier to manage, and the work load easier to manage as well. It's hard to convey, but just one arm of the Beast is more complex than one of my 1/72 Destroids.

Assuming it even comes to fruition, it would be commencing around late October to mid-November, and I would easily give everyone a 30-day heads-up to prepare... Including myself!

:o How'd I miss this!!! My favorite kit of all time!!! If this happens someone PLEASE PM or email me. Lately I'm working 12 hour days nearly 7 days a week and this is my first peek as Macross World in a month or two. I really would hate to miss this one. If this happens any chance for the beta/tread/tlead?

  16. Did we ever see what happened to the two that went through the stargate on the planet to another plant? If so I missed it. Seems like a big loose end that got dropped rather quickly. I'm guessing we'll see those two again at some point... but how?

    Carl

  17. At which time additional systems turned on that took power away from the shields.

Hmmm... I did a bit more thinking about the above. And as I'm now going off in the direction of speculation I don't think I need spoilers any more. Assume the above is true and the reason behind the air leaks becoming an issue when they did. It seems like a good idea but there is another problem. The ship has enough power to keep the FTL drive going. I assume the ship has protocols in place like turning on the air scrubbers when the crew arrived, turning on interior lights and access panels, etc. It also is shown to have protocols to stop and open a worm hole for the crew to get supplies or at least that is what we are made to believe. So it seems reasonable to assume the ship is programed to protect and care for its crew. So... why would the ship pull power from the shields that are holding in the air and not simply shut off the FTL drive? The ship is aware of the air leaks and has closed doors... so shouldn't there be a safety protocol in place that places the power needs of the shield AHEAD of the FTL drive? The idea that the ship might be trying to out run some danger that is following it crossed my mind but it had time to stop and open the wormhole at the end... so why not stop and keep the shields up... at least until the leak issue is fixed. Something seems to be up here... I got the sense from the episode that the crew is not likely to be able to get much control over the ship and that it will be stopping and going at its will and going where it wants to go. So I guess the big unknown is what is the ships main objective... and are its protocols such that its more important to accomplish that objective than it is to keep the crew safe? Maybe the reason the ship choose the gate address at the end that it did is because there is something there that it wants and it intends to use the crew to get it. I wonder if the crew will be checking any of the gate addresses not chosen by the ship any time soon or if the ship will even let them.

    Carl

  18. The ship probably was unpressurized during most of the time it was out their only pressurized when it received a incoming worm hole.

I don't believe a ship that size could pressurize that fast... though I guess you could say we don't know how long it took for the crew to transverse the worm hole. Considering the distance it might have been days or even years I suppose.

However as pointed out below the air scrubbers had died... no reason for that to happen unless they had been scrubbing air.

I don't think it was explicitly stated when the damage occurred. Sure, the ship had been traveling for tens of thousands of years, but the damage could have occurred last week, or just a few years ago. Also, the problem wasn't just that it was bleeding air, it was also that the oxygen scrubbers had died.

Sure... we don't know when the damage occured. But you still have the same question. What are the odds that this ship which has been traveling for tens or hundreds of thounds of years or more would be damaged a week before our crew arrived? Considering how fast the shuttle was depressurised after the door was close we know it was a BIG air leak so I'd be surprised if it would take more then a week to depressurise the whole ship. Ok... I know there shields were weakening and making the leak bigger. Maybe the damage occured years ago and the shields are just now failing... still the question remains... what are the odds that the shields would fail just before our crew arrives? The best theory I can come up with is that the ship had enough power to hold the shields up until the crew arrived. At which time additional systems turned on that took power away from the shields. Sound familiar?

And regarding the problem with the scrubbers I can understand... there isn't really a need to scrub the air until there are people there making carbon dioxide.

    2.

The shuttles door wasnt the broken door. The ships door to the docking port of the shuttle was the broken door. If youll remember they were woking on an access panel from the wall of the ship.

Ok... so that makes it slightly less stupid to close that door with that many poeple inside. This ship is OLD. And doors HAVE failed. I wouldn't want to close the door between me and my air supply unless I was 100% sure that door could be opened again. The fact remains they put alot of people at risk for what was basically a test of the door.

    3.

There might have been protocol in the shuttles ops' that for the door to close and to stay closed while docked with Destiny it has to be "crewed" . The sphere might not have been able to do it. The senator was also instructed (out of scene, per dialogue) "what to do".

True... and True. If there was such a protocol though I think someone should have mentioned it. Using the camera spheres seemed so obvious they should have mentioned why they couldn't be used. They even went out of their way to say they had a ton of them and were expendable and then they start looking for an expendable crew member. And yes the senator did get instruction but it appeared quick and simple enough. Could you tell someone how to type in a password on a keyboard in a different language without showing them? I assume that instruction was something like "push the red button".

    Carl

  19. I watched it and I enjoyed it so I'll be watching more... however there were 3 points that really pushed the limits of credibility for me and are still picking at me. To be on the safe side I'll put these in spoilers.

    1. 1.

This ship has been flying for how long? Hundreds of thounds of years or more and its leaking air... what are the odds that our crew arrives just 1 hour before all the air is gone?

    2.

We have a door to a shuttle that isn't working properly and the shuttle is a BIG air leak. So... who had the bright idea of taking a GROUP of people into it to see if they could close the door from the inside? I half expected that if they could close it that they wouldn't be able to open it again. The door is broken... remember? Why risk the whole group on a test?

    3.

And did ANYONE think to try to close the door from the inside using one of those flying camera spheres? It appeared to be just a matter of pushing a button. The senitor, who I assume couldn't read Ancient, was able to figure it out. At most you'd think they might have to tape a stick or rod to the sphere to push the button but come on... is everyone that eager to kill members of the group off.

    Carl
  20. Yep Carl, I added that caption about stealing the picture because I was taking them from robotechcollections.fr without really asking permission.

Ya want me to go ahead and replace that cropped version I stole from robotechcollections.fr with your original which gives you credit?

Well I feel better that it was you that added that text. I am a little irked that they cropped off my credit at the bottom but at least they didn't plop their own credit on it too. You did that trying to do the right thing.

Over all it's not that big a deal. If I was overly worried about it I'd put my credit in a watermark right over the top of the toy where it wouldn't be so easily removed. But I don't like when others do that so I didn't. And I've certainly downloaded my share of pics off the internet so I'm sure others have saved these. I just wish they'd leave the credit on the picture but aside from being mildly irked its not something I view as worth fighting over. I'm sort of a little surprised that others view it as worth the effort to crop off the credit in the first place.
