Or Bandai could just make them all share the same two seater cockpit.

Somehow I suspect this would be more likely, due to economies of scale. The 1D also has a different chest plate as well, I believe, which adds further complications.

What technique in Photoshop did you use to balance it? Did you just apply a filter or was it something more technical? I've been noticing that lots of pics on my website have slightly different hues and I was trying to determine a way to get them all to be uniform.

Basically I point to an area of the image that should be "uncolored" (either white or light gray) and use the Info palette to see what the levels of CMYK or RGB are. If it's pure white or gray, they should be equal numbers. If it looks high in a particular channel (like the Blue numbers are too high, or like in this case the Magenta number was too high) I use the Curves to pull out just enough to bring the numbers in line. It's similar to what photographers do when they white balance an image.

So a bit more technical than just a filter, but there may be a simple filter to do this. It's actually easier than I'm probably making it sound, and can explain further if you like. I've got a professional background in graphic design as well as photo and video editing. ^_^

  3. I think Bandai will give us other valks eventually down the road, but decided to give the destroids some love. I think it's kinda fun seeing what they will release each month. I'm personally more focused on VF-1 models, but am getting awfully tempted to maybe get a Tomahawk and Defender (assuming it gets made) to supplement the collection.

  4. That video does have a definite pink cast. I took the preview image into Photoshop and balanced the color so the background is a neutral gray, and here's the result. Probably still not a totally accurate representation of the product, though.

  5. Cool! First I thought the sign next to it might be saying preorders start on Jan 27, then I realized it was for the Mirage figure to the left. (And ¥5400 would have been a really good price on this, I think.)

"People need to see the beauty of all three modes..."  and ... BAM! 3 valks down the line

Precisely. It started for me with a single VF-1, then went to 3 for the different modes, then another 3, because you need to show all 3 modes both with and without super parts. :D

Yeah.  I'm going to try to paint the 1D and 1S head today.

Nice. Will the 1D be a CF as well? Or are you painting like the 1D in the first episode or SDFM?

That's the future Max 1A on the right, I take it?

Is that Focker 1S on the left scheduled for some customization?

  8. I'm probably going to pass on the Spartan and keep sticking to just Valkyries, mainly due to limited funds and display space. I think I also enjoy VFs more due to the transformations.

However, the Spartan does look really cool and well done, and it would be tempting to get one, especially since Hikaru did pilot one at a certain point.

Overall I am glad to see Bandai continuing the HMR line into 2017 with some diversity. Here's to more!

  9. I'll paint up a TV Roy to interchange pilots with the VF-1S when I finish my VF-1A TV Max.

Cool. Looking forward to seeing how both turn out.

I'm still trying to take out my DYRL Roy pilot. He appears to be glued in pretty good, and I don't want to break anything.

  10. Received my HMR Max 1J today from the pre-order I placed with JC Collectibles. Based on the higher price and the way their inventory didn't come in until about a week after all other places, I wonder if they may be selling second hand. Interesting, too... when it came in stock, their price online dropped by $10. When I mentioned this to them, they willingly took $10 off my invoice. Shipping from Hong Kong cost about $15 and took about a week. So overall a pretty good experience.

FWIW, I noticed they are out of stock now on Max, but still have Hikaru's TV 1J available.

  11. I agree that Bandai should make more TV version VFs, and the 1S and 1D are at the top of my list also. As I mentioned before, I really hope a future TV 1S comes with both Focker and Hikaru pilots, as well as super parts.

Additional 1A variants would be great. I'm curious to see how sh9000's custom TV 1A Max comes out...

  12. ...Though i've only taken it out and put it on my new trident stand so far.

    attachicon.gifIMG_3150.JPG

Nice pic of the trident. I've been thinking about picking up one of those, and debating between the dark blue and the clear.

That stand looks super nice. Where is it from?

It's the Tamashii Stage Act Trident, available from lots of places.

  13. I'm thinking about using the original HM VF-1S Roy to fill in as my TV VF-1S Roy since it's more white like the HMR VF-1J Hikaru. I'd just need to swap and paint a little on a CF pilot.

Right on. I had the same thought, but was not aware the original Hi Metal pilots could be removed? And I don't have quite as many spare CF pilots as you do... :)

Here's hoping Bandai will release a VF-1S TV version with both Roy and Hikaru pilots.

  14. These HI-Metal CF's really need to be outfitted with some Fastpacks. Do we know if Bandai would ever put out some stand alone FPs for their Hi-Metal line?

I agree. I've been thinking about tracking down a couple of the original Hi Metal super part sets they released in 2010. But a re-release in HMR would be fantastic, and likely cheaper than the secondary market for the originals.

  15. sh9000, I'm really digging all of your customizations. It's really cool to see what can be done with these, to expand beyond what Bandai is giving us.

  16. I'm still waiting for them to announce TV VF-1A Kaki and Max versions, and maybe a VF-1D.

Agreed. 1A variants, 1D, 1S... It'd be great to see all the TV versions!

While I'd love a VF-1D, I wonder if they might be more likely to release the DYRL VT-1, since they have at least already teased that.
