The VF-171 looks awesome!
Even though it not accurate as it could be.... I bought an Experten VF-4 (Ichijyo type) variable kit. Woo hoo! ^o^

It is from the new Variable Fighter Master - File VF-1 Valkyrie book.

I know this, but I'm saying I haven't seen that particular image before. I'd seen others illustrating the wing design, but that one notsomuch. -
You are right. How careless of me. Corrected:

The rest is word for word.

I think that should be a "droop" aileron, not drop. Actually, it should be a slotted flaperon IMHO. (you know, do we ever see them move as ailerons at all? DYRL game maybe?)For the flaps---is that exactly how the original is written? Technically you don't have fowler flaps attached to "normal" flaps----the whole area is "fowler flaps", consisting of a primary and secondary (since these are double-slotted) flap segment.

Very nice find.

OTM newly-developed materials (hyper-carbon etc.) would of course allow for super-strong and thin formed nozzle structure/assemblies to be fabricated (hehe).
I don't like the "WARNING HOT AIR" notice.... they should probably says 'WARNING HOT GAS'.
Actually, Shoji Kawamori drew the VF-4 in detail with "V.E. BLAST" (Vernier Exhaust Blast- ?) painted at the vernier thruster locations.
-Nanashi's Information Group
I find the CG art of the various 'Circle-Bar' verniers interesting.Although given the apparent thinness of the 'bar' section and the fact that it is shown being able to pivot (presumably to vector thrust to some degree), I now question the validity of the previously held assumption that these also double as 'Hook/handles' for lifting the Valk or as for use as chain down points.

With Shoji Kawamori listed as Supervisor, I wonder if we are to assume that this work (with its revisions/apparent mistakes/omissions) is as official as the Variable Fighter's Aero-report of the first This is Animation Special Macross Plus....
There is no mention of the VF-1B
The VF-0's gunpod.... should be GPU-9 not GU-9....
F/A-20N Dragon II..... What happened to the Tigershark? No more F203 / F-203 designation?
So now its okay for the VF-1 to have more than 2 hardpoints per wing?
Regardless... must start translating....

Ahem...........what ever happened to your defnitive work on the VF-1?Graham

Ack.... forgot this one comment:
Why does everyone always forget the VF-1's long-range anti-air reaction missile?
Everyone either forgets about it, gets it confused with the RMS-1 large-sized anti-warship reaction projectile or doesn't even know it exists.... : (

At first glance it seems like a modern day MAT book.... there is actually unofficial MAT stuff mixed in.
I wonder why Ninomiya's concept of specialized ground-attack variant VF-1G of Model Graphix got changed to a variant that appears it should be designated the VEFR-1. Finally, the AMM of the composite-guided multipurpose missile AMM-1's designation is explained.... Air-launched Medium-range Missile. Is it official? Probably not.... : ( Lots of new fan-created model numbers and ideas. What is up with the square-shaped radar antenna/FCS?
Pretty cool schematics and CG..... but.... hardly a comprehensive official master file....

Back to the subject of gun pods from Macross Chronicle #22.... I'm surprised that no one has made a comment concerning the mislabeling of the VF-11B's 30mm Vulcan gun pod as "GU-15". The GU-15 is of course the YF-19/VF-19's gun pod. This isn't the first mistake I've noticed with the Chronicles. There are actually quite a few. Perhaps a separate pinned errata thread is needed.

'Giant' is written as 巨人 (kyujin) as in giant race/people meaning Zjentohlauedy.
-Nanashi's Information Group
WAT? -
It says "8-engined all-wing giant['s] bomber" referring to the Northrop [Grumman] err, I mean Wingthrop SB-10/10 seen in Macross Plus and designated with the PlayStation video game Macross VF-X 2. The word 'giant' does not refer to the enormous size of the aerospace craft, but rather to its operators: giant Zjentohlauedy affiliated with the U.N. Spacy/UNAF/U.N.S. Air Force.

Looks like Macross Ace #001 has sold out on Amazon Japan and is at #70 of all Japanese book sales on site.... I am glad I got my copy. I love it. I really like the new uniforms and flight suits of Macross-The First. Welcome back HAL. I am also glad to see so much mecha art.

*BUMP*First of all, sorry to reactivate this pretty old topic...
Second, does anybody here still have the pics from Nanashi's opening post?
I know there are some very interesting pictures of the Auerstädt in op4_delta's Asuka II Carrier Battle Group, A tactical essay on the Asca CVBG (hopefully the models of the Asuka and Auerstädt will be completed), but I was hoping someone might have official lineart. So far the only I've seen was this:
As you can see, this is an early sketch, and does not reflect the final model seen in the OVA.
Anyway, I've been trying to draw a variant of the sub myself, using those images as well as my SV-51y as a guide. For the moment I've determined the launch tubes (which are somewhat elliptical, as shown in episode 5) to have an internal width of 14.4 meters to 16.2 meters (about 47 to 53 foot) with an internal length of 9 meters (29.5 foot). These measurements are based on the SV-51 equipped with boosters, two air-to-air missiles, and a fuel pod under each wing, again, as depicted in episode 5. My ship will have beam of 75.6 meters (not including fins), as this is the optimum size to have a transit lane for the SV-51's between the launchtubecovers. I'm still undecided about the length though... If I use the length to beam ratio from an Ohio class SSBN/SSGN (Length equals 13.3 x beam) the size would come out at 75.6 x 13.3 = 1005.5 meters. A bit large... The Typhoon L/B ratio is 7.3, giving a length of about 551.88 meters. However, I will know more when I have the image from the bridge status display printed and measured.
Instead of propellors, the boat will use a new style of propulsion, as seen on this concept model for an advanced UK attack sub:
My sub will carry 20 to 22 SV-51's, 2 or 4 ASW Rotorcraft (my original design, based on the UD-4L Cheyenne dropship from Aliens) and up to 10 Octos variable Destroids. These will be located in special bays at the underside of the sub. Pilots get in (Octos is in sub-mode) bay is flooded, and the Destroid launches from a hatch at the bottom. For amphibious assault / reconniassance / special ops delivery the sub will also house a few Gibbs / Lockheed-Martin Amphibians to be precise, this will include (may vary in the future):
-10x Amphibious Combat Craft Expeditionary ACC/E
-6x Amphibious Combat Craft Riverine ACC/R
-4x Terraquad
Of course the sub needs to surface to deply these vehicles.

Back in 1987, Shoji Kawamori wrote on VF-4 detail design sheets for the Musas[h]iya 1/72 VF-4 fighter mode kit which had the words the words 'ram air nozzle' and 'ram wing nozzle'. The ram wing nozzles can move up and down to act as air brakes.
There is a lot of BS on that Wikipedia entry. I am compiling a VF-4 entry here. Remember to look to the Macross Compendium or the site below:
www.macrossmecha.info
Try here: http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E3%83%A9%E3%...83%BC%E3%82%BA)I've been poking at it for RPG stats and I noticed some interesting, previously unknown info on the VF-4 in there.
Also, the latest issue of Model Graphix states that the VF-4 has six (6!) engines.
2x thermonuclear turbine engines
2x rocket engines
2x ramjets (!!! I'm tempted to think that it's an error. But it would explain the inner wing root intakes and gaps in their rears)

Did anyone notice has sold out on Amazon Japan less than a week after being released?
I am glad I pre-ordered mine.
Actually, package was here in my city, in Virginia on the 22nd amazingly a day after being released in Japan. What sucked was FedEx lied about trying to deliver it on Saturday. I had eyes and ears on the the front of the house continuously and never seen nor heard a peep from the carrier. So after all that, I had to wait until Christmas Eve before I could run through the goods. Sadly, there isn't anything I don't already have as far as line-art from production design sheet collections and books. I was really hope I would get some new line-art, like of that ship escorting the Prometheus from the DYRL game. Alas none..... : (
But it is good to have the newest best possible quality to make screen captures for my site.

New Macross class ships use the designator NCV not NEW. The hull number for the M-Frontier is NCV-025 and the M-Galaxy's is NCV-021. Please see attached screen capture beow:

Ok... i was too free XD

The new unmanned fighters are not AIF-9s, but AIF-7S or AIF-75 (?) .
It is unclear if 'Orc' is the name of the unit/squadron (probably) or the model name or unofficial designation of the unmanned craft,
They are different from the AIF-9. Two ventral fins as opposed to the AIF-9's single ventral fin. It has an additional over-nose sensor pod (like the QF-2001's and the QF-2200 figure's), more side fairings.... different super packs.
BTW, the YouTube video's subs are horrible. LOL
But Macross F is purely freaking awesome! So much new Mecha info.... and then there are Sheryl's boobies Mmmmm...
*AHEM* As I figured from the start, there were Super Packs and Protect Armor for the VF-25 as shown in the commercial.
The armored VF-25 reminds me a lot of the VFS-2 Star Child concept, in fighter mode at least.
Did anyone notice the AMRAAM II -esque and Sparrow -esque missiles mounted under the VF-171's wings? The pod has 6 tubes. Yum yum!
New ship Hull numbers:
Macross Frontier (Battle 25 + Macross Quarter + Frontier) is NCV-025. The designator (SDF) is used for the Macross and Megaroad classes. I guess that makes the Macross 7 (NCV-007). Is this more cross-pollination (ala NCC-1701)? ; ) : P
So, the New Macross class designated with (NCV), the Bolognese [can't make out class name but it is given] stealth frigate with (FFM), Guantánamo class with (ARMD/CV/CVR), and Uraga class [or similar] with (CV/CVS)
See:

http://www.macrossmecha.info/fs/guantánamo-class/
http://www.macrossmecha.info/fs/bolognese-class/ *
*Unconfirmed class named. Pages are working. URLs may change.
The only blooper I found was during the CIC 2D computer display animation of the unmanned fighter interception. Both a Guantánamo Class Rakuyou (CVR-670) and a Uraga-class (CVS-670) were depicted-- both within the Frontier fleet... that's probably an error.
www.macrossmecha.info
I just saw episode 1. Seiyan's subbing. Kudos to them.-- X-9 Ghosts or something similar are in use??? I thought they were cancelled in favor of VFs???
But overall, a fantastic first episode. Really loved it. :-)

There were no ships shown in Macross Frontier that were of the same type as the Algenicus. A new type of ship was depicted however.
www.macrossmecha.info
The VF-171 launch sequence from the Maizuru made me  .I demand they released a mook or official guide with the details of those ships (naval ships maniac here ).
And I think Mr.March got a load of references there about the Maizuru and the Algenicus class ships.
Awesome show,
eat that Gundam 00
