  1. Thanks, also congrats on the kid Graham!

    Thank you.

The baby's due in early June. The VF-0S is scheduled for a May release, so guess I'll have a little bit of time to play with the toy before the baby comes

    Graham

Congrats Graham! My son was born this past June 3rd. I can't believe the little guy is almost 8 months old already!! It's a change but man....It's the best most incredable change that could happen!! Good luck! Don't worry though, you'll still be able to get Valks.. I found ways ;)

P.S. I really like the Vf-0, especially if it's cheap. Dispite what I just said cheap still makes it easier!! :p

  2. I see swing bars....

I don't think those are swing bars. They are just the leading edge things that the Zero has (not sure of the purpose...probably just for looks.) Can't tell if the rotate though, doesn't look like it.

I'd like to know what that part is behind the arms and between the legs...it doesn't look like part of the arms.

  3. Whiskey, on the History channel show that was mentioned earlier, an Eagle pilot Stated 2 eagles were losted in combat in desert storm, and he couldn't recal if any of them were air to air loses. Funny how you neglected to bring that up.

Once again, I never said that you said the Eagle was better than the Raptor, I was merely stating that you gave two PERFECT kill ratio's at the time and then declared the Eagle as the clear superior. The Raptor has NO combat experience and probably wont for some time. That absolutely does not meen it is a worse aircraft. I would suggest you "read" posts before you belittle people.

  4. That was a great thread! One of the guys said it best. "ALOT has to do with who is driving" Chuck Yeager said the same thing. He didn't care what he was flying as long as he saw his opponent first he'd win.

Pilots with experience also said when the Tomcat B/D was able to fight the Eagle on equal terms i.e. having a tanker on station they were pretty evenly matched.

    Again, awesome thread! Thanks ewilen!

  5. [

The F-15 was designed to go into somebody's "MAP", establish itself as the neighborhood bully and kick-ass(reborn P-51D Mustang)! The Tomcat was designed to shoot from long range....*yawn* When the Russians developed the Flanker, they did that in response to the teen fighters, but primarily in GOD's fear of the Eagle. That's why you see side-by-side pictures of these two as the best fighters out there 10 years ago. Do you see any pics of the Flanker and Tomcat together?

So you want to compare records eh? You "yawn" at engaging targets at range. Well, which aircraft has the higher friendly fire instances? The EAGLE. Your precious Eagle also tries to engage at a distance, otherwise they would've been close enough to visually confirm Friend or foe and prevent those tragic accidents. Capt. America said it best the Tomcat would distinguish targets better, faster, and farther away. Hate to break it to you but pilots WANT to engage from a distance so they have a higher probability of seeing their families again.

You also say the Tomcat is much older than the Eagle. Personally I don't think they are that far apart but if you want to believe that, that's fine. So your "newer" fighter is constantly being compaired to an inferior aircraft. Here I thought Newer would meen better. The Eagle does NOT out perform the Tomcat out right. Nor does the Tomcat out perform the Eagle out right!

You said it yourself, the Eagle was designed to climb up and catch mig-25's. The Tomcat was designed for Fleet Defense. Take those two variables away and you have a pretty even matching...between a "newer" fighter and an "older" fighter!

    Chris

P.S. The Friendly fire reference is not meant to show a flaw in the Eagle or anybody for that matter. It is meant to show that Fighters want to engage at a Distance.

  6. We've been talking about how the Nimitz's Airwing would fair against the Japanese task force airwing. I want to know how you all think the Nimitz and its Airwing would fair against the Task-Force itself. Did the Navy at the time (late 70's early 80's) have good anti-ship capability. I know the ship had A-6's, A-7's, and F-86's but I'm not sure of their anti-ship capabilities. Would they just Dumb-Bomb the fleet from altitude?

  7. i so barely remember that movie.

lately i've been more impressed with 80's movies

i just saw days of thunder the other day on tv, compaired to the crap their chruning out in theaters now-a-days, even that movie had superior storytelling :(

does anyone remember how good of a movie it actually is? i do remember being unimpressed by the lack of action as a kid, but today i am able to handle more storyline.

what exactly goes on during all that time they arn't actually fighting anyone?

    *** edit ***

i can't believe some of you guys are questioning f-14s effectivness against zeros, when jet fighters build only 5 or 6 years later were considered GOD LIKE against prop planes.

zeros wouldn't stand a farts chance in a strong wind.

I've always found the movie to be Awesome!! Even as a kid. Then again I've always been a fan of Naval Aviation and the Navy in general. Most of the movie is the Nimitz trying to figure out what the hell happened to them and once the think they are back in 1941 they still are not sure if it is just some ellaborate prank to see how they would respond ala Martin Seans Character. Bottom line I think you'll like it now that your tastes have matured a little (Being able to take more story)

    Chris

I love the scenes when the Tomcats first do the Fly by of the yacht and then especially after the Zero's shot the Sh*t out of it. They come streaking in Like 2 pissed off Guirdian Angels.

  8. Actually there was a dog fight in the movie the Tomcats "played' with the Zero's before shooting one down with a sidewinder the other with the gun.

It's not available yet at Amazon. The 2 different DVD versions come out on March 30th. both have direct transfers of the movie to anamorphic widescreen! One is a 1 disc version the other is a 2 disc version with more extras including an interview with the Jolly Rogers Squadron! Pretty Cool!!!

  9. Hi EVERYBODY! (insert Dr. Nick imersination) I was wondering what you all thought of the Final Countdown. Personally I love this Movie!! Where else can you see Tomcats Dog-fighting Zeros! I was just curious if anyone knew why it hasn't or *IF* this movie will make it to DVD.

    Chris

  10. Couldn't the 52 be an attack version since the Russian's give the fighter's odd number designations and even numbers to the bombers?

Like possibly the Anti_UN's version of the VF-0D. Hopefully it'll be something like that or like what Aegis! said. I really hope it'll be something new!
