  1. This may be part of the reason why it's a Limited Edition. If it was a permanent offering, they would've probably invested more in the modifications.

I'm sure this is something they would consider doing if the market (and market size$ justified it.

Yep. The Limited Edition of this release, plus the fact that we have not seen a new tool TV SDF-1 in 30-odd years, makes me think that we aren't likely to get anything else for quite some time (if ever).

    Not gonna pass this up.

  2. I think Tenjin is illustrating the Macross from lineart and film, not the model kit. Very rarely does box-art recreate the model kit (Except the old Monogram and Revell kits that just a giant photo of the finished model).

I've gotta ask the question, will the Monster mecha fit inside the Daedalus? That's what I'd like to know ;) You can see where this is going... - MT

    DING DING DING!!!

    What a fabulous Idea!

Now I really can't wait for my preorder to come in!

  3. Don't care. Looks good. Can fix. Can't wait! :D

    Yep! Agree wholeheartedly!

None of this is a deal breaker for me.

Even if it turns out that I can't modify these issues (which I highly doubt will happen) i

t still looks pretty darned good to my eyes,

Plus I get a real kick out of taking kits that don't look 'right' and making fixin' em up so they do. (one of the reasons I love building old 80's kits so much.) YMMV.

  4. This is a good start, bit it definitely is going to need some work. Along with the previously mentioned missteps, what is getting me is the main guns.

It appears that the 'scoop' on the bottom of the booms is completely absent and the length from the tip of the guns back to the lower blue section of the main, central core is much too short.

Gonna have to figure out how to mod this when I get it.

  5. thanks alot for your resposes. I indeed have all the necesary tools, cutters, hobby knife, sand paper, etc etc. i was more heading towards the adhesive i should ure, and your tamiya adhesive recommendation is what i heard before on the club, i need to check out if i find it locally. Im not going for a pro look, but at least i want to try sanding the rough edges before painting it. i use future polish on my current projects as the guys from the modeling clubs instructed me.

thx a lot for all your suggestion, im taking them on account and please keep them coming.

The the club is local to you and the members suggested Tamiya cement to you, why not ask them where they get it? Here is a great video for using Tamiya's Extra thin cement to help eliminate seam lines with minimal sanding.

I think practicing this technique would be a very good idea for you since you are just starting out.

  6. OK. I assume you have a pair of side cutters (snips) to remove parts from the trees, and a hobby knife to trim parts with. What type of glue do you have/plan to use/ have available? I would suggest Tamiya cement (white cap with built in brush) and Tamiya extra thin (green cap with built in brush).

This brings me to the main question. How much do want to do? You could just build this straight from the box as is (not touching the seam lines or anything) and just paint it up. That might be enough for you, and you might be very pleased with that. Or you may want to go all out and remove ejector pin marks seam lines (including the canopy), paint and weathering.

  7. The Workshop area is supposed to kinda take over that, but hey, I NEVER build anything right out of the box for myself, so the more scratch building the better!-MT

No Doubt, but by default it will also have a lot of straight out of box builds and various other subject matter related to the workshop theme.

My thinking is that this thread could be used by folks once their dedicated scratch/modification build thread has been completed.

Sort of like this. star a thread for your latest scratch/mod build. update /respond to posts until the build is complete. Then come here and post a link to it so that it stays on the first page of the forum and thus folks can find the thread easily later on. That leaves it up to the thread starter to post the link to their build, so no one person has to manage/update it.

  8. Hey cool! I remember this thread!

Now why did it never get pinned?

I always thought it was a good idea. Sort of a on stop thread that linked to all the scratched and modified model builds - makes them easier to get to. I mean considering how long it takes me to finish a build, by the time I'm ready to try something that someone else on the boards did, their thread could be buried in the depths of MW.

Meh, maybe it's just me though.

Anyway I'd be up for seeing more.

  9. Do you remember... RIKI-OH! ;) There were two OVAs. The first was RIKI-OH: The Wall of Hell (1989). The second one was titled RIKI-OH: Child of Destruction (1990). Both were based on the great manga by Masahiko Takajo and Tetsuya Saruwatari serialized in 1988 to 1990.

Anyone else watch these OVAs and manga series?

Never heard of them, but that artwork is reminiscent of Ryoichi Ikegami's work.

And thanks for the tip on the Art book Fortress, I'll keep an eye out for it!

  10. Great scene for a dio! Not enough Macross dios around if you ask me. I've had one in mind for a few years; It's a DYRL dio of Hikaru and Misa in their tent under the VT-1 in Gerwalk. still planning on it just gotta get some other builds completed first.

Looks like you're well on your way. How much ref do you have?

That building looks pretty fab! Got any in progress for it?

Did you scratch the entire truck as well?

    Which VF-1D kit is that?

Are you planning on adding figures?

  11. Yeah from comparison with pics of the Yamato 1:3000 online I'd say this Hasegawa version has a 'smoother' look to it overall - less knobbly.

Some really good pics of a build up of the Yamato 1:3000 to compare to the colour pics posted above can be found here. As an example :
