  1. You can always sell your current VF-1S and put that money aside for the reissue. While you may have to absorb a $10-$20 overall loss, you'll be getting a better Valkyrie. I know it must suck, but I'm glad Yamato went back and fixed the VF-1S' problems.

  2. Another place to look for facts (and likely a very good place) would be the Flash Back 2012 Art Book...but I don't have it...anyone?

Although it may not be conclusive, it would also be nice to know whether, according to the official timeline, the carriers were replaced with ARMD's on the SDF-1's arms during the 2012 refit, or some other time. This may be common knowledge, although I don't see it in the Compendium. SDF-1 does appear in its updated form in Macross Plus, doesn't it? (I haven't seen all of M+ yet--will fix that soon.)

And it would be nice to know when Kawamori et. al. officially decided to reconcile the DYRL and SDF: Macross appearance of the ship in this way.

Actually, I've got a copy of that book. I'll peruse through it later for any sort of timeline or explanation and post it here. I'll also skim the Gold Book and Perfect Memory sometime. ewilen, I must commend you on those excellent post. Keep it up :)

  3. Actually, I have an FM-Towns Marty system. It was pretty cool for it's time, however games were very hard to get. Had to go by an import shop which was very costly. I also remember the Konix system and Tiger's Game.com handheld.

OMG! Someone has the FM-Towns Marty! I was thinking of that console when posting here, but I just couldn't remember the name. Awesome stuff, man. I always wanted to check out that system. You wouldn't happen to have any pics, would you? Also, did WonderDog ever get ported to that system? Just wondering if it had any improvements over the Sega version.

  4. To be perfectly honest, Max is on to something. But I think the reason we're slamming all these new movies is that the only new movies that get mentioned here are complete crapfests. Dead or Alive the movie? Street Fighter 2 the movie? GI Joe the movie? Either that or we post highly controversial movies, like Reloaded or AOTC. No one bothers to post good solid movies. For example, if I were to start a thread on Cold Harbor, it would zero replies (give yourself a pat on the back if you've heard of this new indie film).

  5. Just saw your post in the other forum, AL. I think it's just HG's gambit, just as Sunwards was to Yamato. I don't think anyone (Yamato included) ever thought Sunwards would take off, Yamato just wanted to see what would happen. Same thing with HG and M7 Trash, they probably had little faith in the venture, but wanted to see how Japan would react. In end end. HG and Yamato merely wanted a documented incident that they could cite, should this matter ever be taken to court. Ok, I need some sleep.

  6. Well, here are the linear notes from the 1987 Flashback laserdisc, submitted amicus curie ;) I didn't scan the other side, as all it contained were the lyrics for Minmay's songs.

For those who haven't been following the thread, Keith has claimed:

DYRL was officially acknowledged as a movie within the continuity by Studio Nue in 1987 when Flash Back 2012 came out (3 years later, not 10), though there was no official continuity released until 1993-4. Besides which, who are you or anyone else to say what was specifically intended for the film?

However, Keith has failed to submit any sort of documented proof, only relying on heresay and stating "look at the animation." IMO, animation is an unreliable source of information as it is prone to errors (ie: Roy and Hikaru's color-changing heatshields in DYRL, etc). So here's some written proof, dated 1987. Honestly, I can't say for sure if Kawamori had planned for DYRL to be a movie with Macross from the start, or if he decided to do so in 1994 (for which we do have plenty of documentation). Hopefully these linear notes can shed some light on the matter.

Oh yeah, I'll also be scanning the linear notes from the 1992 DYRL: Perfect Edition laserdisc linear notes. Since this version of DYRL was the first to incorporate the Flashback footage in the end, there might be some information that could vindicate Keith's statement. Look for these later. Can't you tell I just love these uber-otaku debates. :o:p:lol:

Edit: JsARLIGHT, if you need more clarity, I can send you the original uncompressed scan. I didn't post it since it's a couple of megabytes.

  7. Keith, you keep accusing us of providing no evidence when we keep asking you to proove your point with evidence, you keep failing to post it in your replies. If this where a research report you'd get an F because you keep quoting things and never post any factual proof.

The proof is in the Macross 7 Laser Disc liner notes as translated by Egan Loo, as is the existence of Flash Back 2012 which is available for "all" to see. Bandai was even kind enough to make their official release R1 compatible, and though out of production, there are plenty of Bootlegs about. Considering Egan is officially endored by both Bandai & Big West, it's safe to assume his translations are correct.

Keith, I think JsARCLIGHT is asking for proof the pre-dates 1994 (the year Kawamori and Studio Nue revised the Macross timeline). The Macross 7 LD's were manufactured in 1995 and the Flashback DVD much later. If it's of any use, I have the original 1987 Flashback laserdisc with linear notes. If anyone's willing to translate it, I'd be more than happy to scan it.

  8. Parasite Eve and Parasite Eve 2 are great.

Parasite Eve is a great game, but I gotta disagree with you on PE2. I thought it was unoriginal and awful. Gone was the old PE gameplay and instead they gave us Resident Evil. That games only saving grace was its beautiful cinema scenes.

    PE1's gameplay was an embarassment.

    PE2 has VASTLY superior gameplay.

If being the 100th Resident Evil clone is what constitutes good gameplay, then yeah, I'd have to agree. Must also explain why PE2 went straight to the bargain bin.

  9. This movie is going to be pure cheese. Sure it's going to have lots of flashy scenes, but the storyline, chronology, and characters are going to suck hard. The original Dark Horse comic is probably the best you could do with this concept. Two things are going to sink this boat before it even sets out to sea:

    1. ) It's from the director of Resident Evil

    2. ) It's a "prequel" (aka 'Sh1t! We're out of original ideas!') to Alien

  11. WTF?! MII and M+, but no movie edition? What kind of box set is that?! If there was ever a company that could make Harmony Gold look good, it's present-day Manga. <_<

Sounds like they've just grabbed their stock of existing DVDs and wrapped them up together in one external package over the standard internal ones.

Bullseye! I hope no one here actually expects Manga to redo the DVD covers and inserts.

  12. Uhh...if it can't even hold a VF-1 properly, I don't see the point. I'll just stick with sithlord's stands, they're simple, elegant, cheaper, and unobtrusive. Plus, you can even get them to hold the Valkyries in Gerwalk and Battroid modes.

Now THIS is how the claw should be holding the VF-1. :D
