  1. Well, I've had both my Roy 1/48 and my Roy 1/60v2 side-by-side for about five days now. And I must say that over a few days of appreciating them both, I finally came down in favor of the 1/60.2. And I have surprised myself in doing so. I always loved the 1/48 and always figured it would be hard to top. So, here's my humble summary of the Pros and Cons of the 1/60.2 and why I prefer it:

    1/60 v2

    Fighter

    Pros

    • Better/sleeker/accurate Fighter and Gerwalk mode in general. Once I got used to the nose being shorter, it just "feels" more right to me and looks as much like a Valkryie model kit as any toy I've ever owned.
    • Head is more "tucked in."
    • Arms are more "tucked in."
    • Silhouette from front is much sleeker and
      much
more accurate thanks to less bubbly canopy.
    • Tampo-Printed "UN SPACY" on legs really look great in Fighter mode.
    • Though materials are nearly identical, the 1/60.2 feels more "solid" and less "fisher-Price" (especially in Fighter) than the 1/48's big, blocky, "plasticy" feeling.

    Cons

    • None

    Battroid

    Pros

    • Sleeker more accurate ("Hasegawa-like") legs.
    • Improved poseability
    • Sleeker Chest (used to prefer the "beefier" looking 1/48) that matches arms and legs better.
    • Slightly shorter nose in battroid (not a big deal to me, but nice).

    Cons

    • Head and neck are attached "higher" than on 1/48 because fuselage now peaks up above the chest piece (this was almost a deal-breaker for me. But I overlook it because I love the fighter and gerwalk appearance so much. . . and I have gotten used to it in battroid).
    • Shoulders flop around a lot more and aren't "locked in" when in battroid mode. Leading to some of the torque and durability issues some have reported.
    • I prefer the 1/48 VF-1S head sculpt. The head on the 1/60.2 seems a bit small and the "head lasers" a tiny bit over-exaggerated.

    Overall (all modes)

    • The plastic of the 1/60.2 looks "cleaner" to me and feels "brighter" in a pleasing way. Smoother and higher quality plastic perhaps? Or maybe the couple of 1/48s I've had on display are just dirty?
    • Size difference - I'm surprised that I prefer the 1/60.2's size to the 1/48. It feels better in the hand and less like a Tonka or Fisher-Price toy.

    Overall Non-Issues (for me)

These are issues that some have brought up that just don't really register in my own personal evaluation of which I prefer. To each their own. I'm sure my own criteria aren't all that important to others. So this is all just subjective opinion:

    • I don't miss the antenna in Gerwalk mode.
    • I don't mind the "hook" on the backpack and don't consider it an eye-sore.
    • I'm not even sure I've noticed the tailfins/rear stabilizers rubbing against anything.

    Conclusion

While I'm not yet ready to start selling off all my 1/48s only to change my mind and regret it later, I'm definitely taking inventory and will almost certain be selling off my 1/48 duplicates some day. At this point, I'm more excited about having multiple 1/60.2s than I am about having 1/48s (and their huge boxes) taking up all that space without all the "pros" I've listed above.

  2. Finally got my first v2.0 1/60. The Roy 1S. Try as I might, I'm having a hard time getting over the fuselage showing above the chest in battroid mode where there would normally be that cool recessed area (like on the 1/48). I realize it was necessary to overcome the "overly long nose" issue that the 1/48 had in battroid mode. But it sorta ruins the whole upper-chest and head area for me. . . which is one of the most cool and solid looking parts of the 1/48 to me.

I was hoping I'd like the 1/60 so much that I'd be able to sell off my 1/48s and save all that space. I guess I'll put them here side-by-side for a few days and hope that the 1/60 grows on me. I do love the Tampo printed UN SPACY markings and the Fighter and Gerwalk mode are perfect. I saw the odd upper-chest issues in the pictures and hoped it wouldn't be so apparent in person. All-in-all, it's a nice toy. Just not sure it's so good that I don't want my 1/48s anymore. Which is the standard I was hoping it would achieve.

Yes, I have a complaint about a toy. Oh no!

Edit: Couple of quick pics. . .

  3. Just for the record. . . this is beyond the control of everyone but Shawn. This isn't a problem that can be fixed with the forum back-end, or FTP, or by thinking affectionate thoughts. It's a low-level server thing.

I too have seen it occasionally. . . but usually only late at night. So I haven't considered it much of an issue. I assumed (and still suspect) that there is some low-level backup taking place.

Perhaps it could be throttled back or otherwise made less intrusive. . . but that's up Shawn's alley.

The other 99% of the time, during the day and most of the night, this site is lightning fast for me.

I've been remiss in responding to Shawn's last email. But I'll get to that and bring this up at the same time. Though as sporadic as it is, I would have a hard time characterizing this as an urgent problem. I suspect that only the truly obsessive visitors here encounter the problem enough to truly be a nuisance. Go get a drink or something while it works itself out and come back to find it zippy again. ;)

  4. Just a few quick points:

Despite calls for it, we're not about to start implementing hard-and-fast rules about consecutive posts. Sometimes it happens naturally and that's not a problem. But there's a distinction between the occasional double-post and someone who feels compelled to visit the forums several times per day and reply to nearly every single response in every thread in which he participates. Nearly always to the same people. And nearly always merely to repeat "w00t!" at each other. It may have been enthusiastic. But it was also disruptive and the forums were beginning to become drowned in the babble of a very few who felt it necessary to post "w00t!" at each other several times per day. And the vast majority of it tended to swerve off-topic into private jokes, etc.

We shouldn't need any more rules than we already have. We all depend on each other to behave with some eye towards etiquette and common decency. Being in a community means that we don't all just get to "get our freak on" as much as we want and behave however we see fit regardless of how that affects others or the community as a whole. People shouldn't feel free to go from thread to thread posting nonsense (even if it's enthusiastic nonsense) anymore than they should expect to be able to stand up in a nice restaurant at regular intervals to scream at the top of their lungs about how very much they love the food. And when the restaurant owner or staff asks them to please stop disrupting the enjoyment of others in the restaurant, it takes someone with a pretty big problem with any type of authority to say: "F--k you man! Don't tell me how to enjoy this restaurant." And just because a few people in the restaurant know and like the guy and his constant outbursts of "THIS FOOD ROCKS!" . . . and a few even begin to join in. . . that doesn't make it appropriate. Nor does it make it good for the restaurant no matter how much of a kick a few patrons might get out of it.

It comes as no surprise that there's a pattern of people who personally know and like Ryan coming to his defense and stating that his habits did not bother them. However, that's not really the point. The point is that a poster's habits shouldn't be disruptive or overtly annoying to a substantial subset of the other 99.9% of the members that have *not* met him personally or gotten to intimately know and appreciate whatever quirks so endear him to some.

And please, let's not act as though we're all a hair's breadth away from being sh*t-canned because we make a short post from time to time or share a private joke in public occasionally. To conflate that with what we've been dealing with here is to be pretty wilfully and conveniently obtuse. Despite all the private warnings, depsite all the public warnings, despite all the times he flipped the staff the bird, blatantly flouted the warnings and actually increased his disruptive activities, went out of his way to provoke the staff, and incite his friends to "support" him in his fight against "nazis", he still wasn't banned until he couldn't wait out a 3-day temporary ban and decided to create a shill account and pretend he was someone else.

Finally, though I am probably the most verbose staff member in taking the time to write out the reasoning behind our actions, I am by no means the "hardest line" staff member here. And despite some making this a personal thing between me and misterryno, I really wouldn't have cared if he were to tell me repeatedly to "go f--k myself" in private so long as he had actually acted upon the warnings being issued by the rest of the staff. So this isn't about apologizing to me as far as I'm concerned. And based upon the overall pleasant communications we've had since his banning, I think he knows that.

  5. I thought it was funny that it was mentioned that Red Dawn was considered the most violent movie every made when they also write about Robocop in the same article. :p I re-watched Red Dawn a few weeks ago in fact. Pretty tame by today's standards.

The people who keep track of such things are Communists. They did not care for the anti-Communist message of that movie.

  6. And in a gross, INEXCUSABLE abuse of authority/power soon to be laid down, I'm going to post one more reply to this locked thread because I just can't pass this up. . .

And I bet you're a tough guy too behind a computer typing away. Actually, you're not dude! We have met at MWcon'05. Makes me wonder why you have not been to any other MWcon? [. . .] Dude, your badd-ass behind a computer!

I'm not sure why you're focused on my physique here. I'm totally average in every way. 6' - 180 lbs (down from 200 recently. w00t!). Never made a claim to be a bad-ass. Was I supposed to arrive at that MWCon on a Harley and sporting brass knuckles? Should I have bulked up first? I wasn't aware that the purpose of attending MWCon was to impress everyone there with my physical prowess so that when the MW Thunderdome inevitably got underway years later, nobody would dare challenge me to single combat!

    WTF?

And. . . I think my reasons for not attending further MWCons are probably pretty obvious. . . the long trip. . . to stand there next to you and feel uncomfortable with your choice of conversation. *shudders* :p

Though I did have a good time and it was fun to put faces to all the names learned over the years. Just never saw a need to do it again.

  7. I highly doubt that our posts have "discouraged the participation of others".....in fact I know it has not

You know that it has not? You should see the PM boxes of the moderators and the other forums where the goings on here on MW are sometimes discussed. You're just. . . wrong.

the only thing that discourages others from posting is you and the other mods (not all of them) Nazi attitudes.

I can't tell you how little respect I have for someone who compares moderating styles of a forum (lenient to this point at that) to Nazi Germany. Yeah perspective!

    Um...

As far as I can tell, all of us - every last Macross Fan on this forum - engages in "essentially posting the same crap you posted yesterday the last time they posted."

You missed the distinction between it being everyone getting involved in a thread. . . and the same group of three or four guys going ape-crap in every thread. . . and nearly always verging off into their balls, crotches, rugby. . . or whatever else it is that they want to discuss amongst themselves.

Well, it looks like Roy is on the case. Yeah, I'm retiring. But for the record, until Shawn actually reads his email and removes my Admin rank, I've recused myself from taking any direct action on anyone. But I can't tell you how convinced I am now that I'm making the right decision here. Do I think I'm "too good" for Macross World? No. I just think MW used to be a lot better. And watching folks who have always been the cringe-inducing element of MW now come flocking to a certain someone's defense. . . I'm just more certain that I've made the right decision.

  8. The more smileys just show exactly how I feel since I cannot just call up Ruskii and be like "hey there mate....this is how I feel"....the point is to draw attention to it. What the hell is your problem with that......plus.....I wish you mods would just chill the fu(k out. As you notice after you just posted that little bit of yours (not to pick on you Ruskii) that there were as you would call "pointless" posts. I like the posts however and will answer them. In fact......right before that post I made to Ruskii that you did not like...I had a post EXACTLY how you mods would want it. So lighten up and get off my a$$.

    EDIT for spelling

The point is that it's you, Ruskii, and a couple of other people writing only to each other with "w00t!" bs posts in thread after thread. You treat these forums like they're your own private chat room and just post ridiculous (unfunny) tripe at each other. . . everywhere. Each thread becomes dominated by your little clique and it does discourage the participation of others in the conversations. It also drowns out those who do try to participate without taking part in your smiley-filled, pointless crap. And no, starting your own thread doesn't really make a difference.

This is a public forum. The vast majority of your posts shouldn't be intended to entertain just you and three or four of your like-minded buddies. And not everything one of your buddies posts requires a public response from you consisting of essentially the same crap you posted yesterday the last time they posted.

Can't you guys find an instant chat program where you can privately send smilies to each other, tell each other how hilarious you are, and say "COOL! SHOW ME MORE!" ten times per day without polluting so many of the threads here with that stuff? Seriously?

    H

  9. Howdy All,

This seems like a good a place as any. . .

I just sent an email to Shawn requesting that I be "retired" from Admin duties. I've got too much on my plate. And I feel that those who are "running this show" should be passionate about Macross as well as about this community. And, honestly, I'm just not passionate about either anymore. That's no knock on Macross! I will always love my VF-1 Valkyries and my DYRL/SDF Macross roots! I've just gotten older and have found my interests drifting.

Congrats to haterist for surviving my reign of terror! ;)

And though I'm sure a member or two who have felt the staff's ire over the past two years will spatter their monitors with their beverages at my saying this: Compared to how things used to be, I'd argue that MW's staff put a "kinder, gentler" face towards its users over the last couple years. And more than any fix I applied or any skin I created, I'm happy that I played a part in that at least. And I hope the trend continues.

So, anyways, those who know me will realize that I could go on and on here as I usually do. So give me some credit for cutting this short!

    Best,

    H

  10. You gotta be careful mate. It would seem that if you post something that is not agreeable to the "higher power" ^_^ it will be deleted. There were 3 post deleted about an hour ago because of supposed spamming.

Though I'm not that "higher power". . . I did restore those posts so that people can actually get a sense of what we're talking about here. We don't need to talk about your (or anyone else's) balls for several posts in a thread ostensibly about pictures of mecha toys. I'm not sure why that's so difficult for you to understand and/or appreciate.

You have been warned several times now both publicly and privately. The ice you are on could not possibly be any thinner.

And I'd really recommend you stop taunting the staff and/or openly daring them to make an example out of you. In fact, the next few posts here better be about the topic of the thread and not directed at me, Azrael, or any staff members (not even in a not-so-subtle vague fashion). This thread is about toys and images of those toys. Not about you, your balls, porn, or your misguided persecution complex.

  11. And so everyone knows.....I tried to use the quote button thing for multiple posts but I could not get it to work. I must be doing something wrong.

When you want to respond to more than one post, click the icon that looks like this . . p_mq_add.gif . . . for each post you want to quote. As you press them, they should turn red and look like this: p_mq_remove.gif

Then, go down to the bottom and click the t_reply.gif button.

At that point, you should have a reply window with each of the posts you selected already quoted.

  12. Written while EXO was apparently locking things up. . .

Seriously, what does it matter? Are MW members complaining?

    Yes. Repeatedly.

Are the posts causing the server to crash?

    No.

If so, that's one thing, but I thought most were here to obatin and share Macross info and goodness while having some fun in the process. Most people who post have gotten in on the fun and gotten off topic, but for the most part it's all in fun. If the 4000 + plus number is causing people distress or dare I say jealousy, why not just reset the number to "0" or not count the post at all? What does it account for anyway? It's almost like some guys are standing in the shower and comaring the size of their Ballchinians...

The point is that for over a year, we've been treated to more and more one-word or one-sentence posts that contribute absolutely nothing substantive. This has encouraged others to start doing the same thing. And for a while there, there was a real problem with threads being taken off-topic by what has been termed by some as "gah gah" spam posts with each person trying to out-do the other person with spammy one-liners of absolutely no value to anyone but those making the posts. This coupled with an attitude where the posters seem to think that each thread is a direct question directed at them personally, and thus meriting their response even if they don't have one worth making, has led a lot of our members and staff to take note of a deteriorating situation. Or, as I put it six months ago on another forum that sometimes discusses the happenings over here at MW. . .

Is it just me, or are a lot of threads on MW descending into (no matter the real topic at hand) a bunch of somewhat new, unfunny people making unfunny jokes followed by a lot of other unfunny people responding with even less funny jokes?

A couple months later, things had gotten so bad that even haterist noticed it. And when haterist and I agree on something, you know it's a problem. . . ;)

the thing thats been bothering me lately is having to sift through pages of pointless posts that are posted for the sake of posting. i feel some of the newer members are using the forum to toss in their not-even-on-topic 2cents and/or not-so-whitty banter in every single thread that comes up. its cool every once in a while but i come here to check whats going on in the world of macross, not to read unneeded replies to stupid off topic posts that go on for pages.

Couldn't have said it better myself!

Being in a position of leadership, the expectation is different. This is certainly something that should have taken place in PM. Instead of condescending custom titles why not "man up" and hit the Ballchinian in PM instead of him putting him on blast as if "you've had it up to here" with excessive posting? Not very mod like in IMHO.

The problem with this is that we did just PM him about it. Funny that he doesn't mention this but instead disingenuously states that we should have PMed. He knows full well that we did just three days ago. The staff do communicate and notify each other when any action is taken. It was decided that since he had clearly ignored private (even "professional" as he put it) warnings, perhaps a public one was in order. Especially because it might then perhaps "get the word" out that the type of spamming posts described above are not going to be tolerated any longer. Especially if they're off-topic as they so often are.

As for the custom titles being juvenile. . . they're a long-standing tradition here. And if misterryno says he likes his. . . what's there to complain about? The staff have always assigned such titles in situations like this and it has never gotten anyone butt-hurt before. Indeed, I'm not sure I see that one as juvenile given that it's a pretty widely held --and to my mind, valid-- opinion.

I'm sure some people will see this as an opportunity to "fight the power" and show that they won't bow to some vaguely defined "oppression" by over-zealous mods. But the truth of the matter is that we've looked the other way for a long time until it became impossible to do so any longer. When the worst offender was privately warned, he ignored the warning, responded negatively, and actually increased the prohibited behavior. How, then, are we to respond? On many other boards, he'd just be banned without a word. That may end up happening. But it certainly hasn't happened yet. Instead, here we are, explaining our rationale and our reasoning and why we're feeling the need to crack down a bit on the "no spamming" rule that has always been there. And the usual suspects will always feel that they need to "stick it to the man" and feel persecuted. We can't help that. But we will enforce the rules and if necessary, we'll have to stop being nice about it while doing so.

So guess what. . . it's time to get back on-topic. Nobody is going to be banned for saying: "That is awesome!" every once in a while. But that clearly isn't what we're dealing with here. At least, that's clear to anyone who has taken the time to look into the situation and has all the facts.

  13. (Edit: Just realized I misspelled the topic title and subtitle, and apparently I can't modify it. Mods please correct it if you care).

Fixed. Man, that was one screwed up thread title. Had to guess at the subtitle as well. Let me know if it's not what you intended.

  14. And, as others have asserted, the blacklist certainly isn't the place to put someone merely for selling potentially inappropriate stuff.

The blacklist is for naming those who have (at least, allegedly) screwed over or ripped off another member in some tangible way.

Selling a barbie doll here =/= blacklist-able offense.

Selling a barbie doll here, accepting payment, and then not shipping it to the buyer = blacklist-able offense.

And please nobody take that definition above and quote it back two years from now. I'm writing fast and informally.

  15. youtube wouldn't allow that. Maybe redtube, but I don't see much gay pron on that one (nor would I be looking for it unless its the girl kind). :D

    <_<

It would be nice if everyone would let it drop. And stop trying to make jokes that only serve to further derail the thread and subtley (or even unintentionally) serve to antagonize or encourage the participants. Please discuss the toy while we figure out if we need to scrub phrases such as that from the topic. Quoting it certainly doesn't help.

  16. That joke has been made quite a few times already...

Well pardon me Mr. Fancy Pants. :p

I don't read. Especially given what little I've seen of the argument at hand. Was just looking for pretty pictures of the Macross.

Certainly hadn't seen it said in this thread.
