  1. i don't know if you ran across Hurin yet but hes pretty good about keeping these types of things in check.

Hurin would keep that in check as well.

And Hurin has been doing a fantastic job of taking care of spammers. Hats off to the unabashedly contrarian one!

I'd be remiss if I didn't point out that the other members of the staff do far more and work much harder to keep things running smoothly around here than I do. While I tackle a few of the more technical problems and sometimes can handle an issue that used to have to be handed off to Shawn, the moderating staff is the real glue that holds this place together on a day-to-day basis. So while I appreciate the sentiments, I'm not nearly as deserving of them as these fine folks.

  2. I think this exact video has been posted here before.

(thread re-opened since I couldn't find the original one - if it indeed even exists)

    So, my two cents.

Everything is a rip-off of everything. There is nothing new under the sun.

I always considered Family Guy to be an attempt at a fresh take on the increasingly un-funny Simpsons. Though, Family Guy has also had some rough patches (during a much shorter run).

I gave up on The Simpson a long time ago. . . around season ten. You youngsters don't know what you missed (unless you buy the DVDs!)! ^_^

Anyways, when both shows are about a suburban American family with an idiot for a dad, you're going to have some cross-over. You can only write for stupid in so many ways.

  3. I just received my Box set from CD.Japan and have a problem.

The box has a small dent in one of the corners. I paid 130.00 US shipped and another 22 duties once it crossed the border in Canada.

Should I live with the dent or have CD.Japan send a new one and spend another 20-60 dollars after duties and sending the dented one back.

The DVD cases and books are not affected by teh dent it is just a cosmetic defect on the box.

    That's your call, Chief. ;)

My box is dented too. I'm happy to say that I've mellowed over the last several years and I didn't think twice about it. It's not like we're ever actually going to sell these things.

  4. How do you subscribe to topics on this forum? Ive been trying and have no idea how to.

In the upper-right corner of the thread, on the right side of the dark blue thread title bar, there is an "options" button. You can subscribe there (among other places).

Unsubscribing is handled through your "My Controls" link. Once in there, look on the left-hand side.

  5. Hi Kensei,

    Got your PM.

I logged in as you. . . went to your 'My Controls' and cleared out a ton of subscribed threads under "Subscriptions-->View Topics" on the left-hand column.

I then made a few test posts as you and those subscriptions did not return.

So, hopefully it's fixed. Can't explain why it wasn't working for you if that's what you were doing as well.

    Best,

    H

  6. Hah, they are coming in after a new person replies to them. They are still comoing and I've amassed over 50 so far

I find it quite funny, but I turned off my email notifications and it still continues to happen.

Under 'My Controls'. . . you've deleted all your subscriptions?

If so, you'll need to PM your password to me so I can look into this.

    Best,

    H

  7. Okay now that the emails are up and working how do you stop auto topic subcription?

You can delete the topic subscription via your control panel but as soon as you post in the topic again it goes back in the topic subscription list :(

Is your browser for some reason remembering the checkbox below the reply input box where it says "Enable Email Notification of Replies?"

If it is, uncheck it, reply, and then see if it stops remembering.

  8. I think I've isolated and fixed the email issue. The solution was forcing IPB to include a (techically not required) email header that some of the more paranoid ISPs out there were being picky about. They were just dropping our emails without any notification or error message. Now that the header is included, our emails are being accepted by those servers again.

So far, I've confirmed that the following domains are working again:

    yahoo.com

    comcast.net

    cox.net

So, at this point, I think it's safe to assume that the issue is resolved.

    Best Regards,

    H

  9. Guess what. . .

This is now fixed. Hopefully fully. At least partially. I managed to find an email account of mine that MW could still send an email to. . . and then compared the headers of that email to the headers of other IPB boards that I manage.

The server's PHP configuration was not properly filling in all email headers and the more paranoid ISPs out there were rejecting the mails. I added a header that seemed to be crucial in this peculiar situation (though not, technically, a required one) and mails are now going out to my own personal domain (which wasn't working prior) and I was also able to confirm that emails are now reaching yahoo again.

So, hopefully comcast and the rest will now be working again as well.

    Fingers crossed.

  10. Got it. Watched a few scenes. Overall very happy with it as it's official, and has no interlacing issues as the older official release did to such a horrible extent (as discussed in my review here). I guess, other than that, my hopes weren't set very high. So, I'm not disappointed.

Those of you expecting so much more may just have to hold out for the HD version. :)

Will be a few days before I can start looking at the subtitling issues. Will post more at that time.

  11. it's before the external shot. During the disintegration of his inner chamber (from bottom to top), it starts with a red shot, then it goes progressively green, & finally grey.. It then cuts away to another part of the ship disintegrating, then the fully disintegrated chamber, then a splice to the begininng of that part, with it fully intact & red again.

I just watched the scene but hadn't read this description in a while. I didn't notice it. Only after I came back here, re-read this description, and watched it again did I notice what you're talking about.

Internet forums suck. I swear, half of us wouldn't be bothered by any of this stuff if we weren't constantly told what should bother us. Then again, I'm probably guilty of the same thing whenever I talk about various other topics. :)

  12. Okay, I just validated about 20-30 accounts that contacted me over at Macross Nexus. My apologies to those who waited overly long.

Honestly, I can no longer promise to stay on top of these as much as I'd like. It's surprisingly convoluted and time-consuming to actually do it right (actually check out the email address on MN, compare to here, log into each admin back-end, etc.).

This is what we know about the problem with these forums' inability to send out emails:

    1. It is not IPB at fault (the forum software). I confirmed this by writing a simple PHP script that sends out a test email. It can successfully send to some addresses, but not others. This matches exactly the IPB behavior.

    2. It is widespread. I've noticed that we're unable to send to Comcast, Yahoo, gmail, hotmail, excite. . . and many, many others (even obscure domains).

    3. I have no ability to further troubleshoot or fix this issue from where I sit. It will have to be handled by the site owners.

  13. Hi All,

Sorry I've been so quiet! ^_^

I haven't gotten my copy of this release yet. It may be waiting for me in my office. But I'm trying to stay away from that evil place over the holiday break. :)

I do intend to re-time the subtitles appropriately. And the subtitles themselves will be improved a tiny bit (gotten some feedback on them recently).

I can't make any promises that this will happen immediately. But I'm hoping sometime before the end of January.

In the meantime, nobody should expect the subtitles for the previous releases to work very well at all. In a best case scenario, they will be uniformly off a certain amount. In that case, shifting them all that amount will be relatively trivial (after I remember everything I've forgotten over the last year or two about working with DVDLab Pro, etc.). But, I suspect that the timing issue will be more complicated and the gap will actually increase over the duration of the movie. If that is the case, we're largely hosed and I'll essentially have to start at "square one" again as I did so long ago. In that case, there are formulas that can be applied to get it somewhat accurate, but then you need to "nudge" each one, compile, burn, test. . . repeat. . . and it's a huge pain in the butt. So bear with me.

Someone above mentioned that DVD decrypter made their video look more grainy. That shouldn't be the case. It should make no changes to the MPEG stream itself. Having said that, since DVD Decrypter is an older program that is no longer being updated, it probably won't suffice on its own to remove all encryption for this new release. Someone posted about using DVD Fab as well as DVD Decrypter. That's probably a good bet. But I won't be able to give any more advice from a first-person perspective until I've got the DVD in my hands.

    Good luck out there!

    Best,

    H
