They weren't really show boating. He was performing a low pass to a pitch back turn, very normal maneuvers. He attempts to convert his airspeed into a climb, but mushes through the climb losing a bunch of airspeed and gains almost no altitude. Then after executing a poor pitch back turn he tries to continue an agressive maneuver instead of swallowing out the dive and regaining his airspeed. Any one of three things would have saved him 1) Better Judgment, 2) More power or 3) More altitude.
1) Was the maneuver necessary? No.
2) Ergo: showboating.

What size do you suggest?
Eh, I've gotta make a new one, anyway...

Good work 505th!!!
Anime52k8- "doin' some artin'" is going to become my new phrase around the house. Good work!
I finished the animation.
The sound is kind of wonky because A) this is the first time I have ever done sound, and B) the sounds are all public domain files put together with a free sound editor.
The company is still working on the countdown page, but you can see an early live version here: http://www.otusanalytics.com/

Anyone have a clue why my animated avatar doesn't work in the forums? It animates in my settings, but not in any posts.
I've seen others with animated gifs, so I don't think they are disabled or anything...
???

Hey all- After having the baby (well, my wife did), things've been kind of hectic. However, a client of mine who has contracted me to create 7 robot designs for their service has had me working ona quick animated gif for the countdown page for their site launch. Here's a still from the "animation" (it is mostly animated by shading and color, very little actual movement).
The seven robots will each be loosely based on a different style of anime/manga robots, and I am sure once they are done you all will be able to spot the influences quickly .
Six of the seven each represent a package level for the service, and the seventh, OTUS, is the "leader" of the group.
More to come!

I don't know, the bulk of the fleet did have its ass handed to it in the last one.
Not true. The ship's that got their asses handed to them were the one's stationed at Earth who could sortie to Vulcan in time. They even comment how a majority of the fleet is on patrol and can't get to Vulcan in time.

Walking under the XB-70 at Wright-Patterson as a kid is an amazing experience. That thing is just sooo darn large!

Thanks guys. A crazy new world I am joining, but it is just awesome as before, only this time with little people.
And, apparently, they'll let you keep typing even though it won't show. So...

May I present Macross' newest female ace pilot: Vibeke Penny Sorley.
Delivered via emergency c-section at 4:01am CET, February 16th 2012 and weighing in at 2.58 kg (5.7 lbs).
Mrs. TWDC's water broke Wednesday night at about 10:15pm, and things moved fast from there. 35 1/2 weeks, so a little early.
The baby was in a breach position and contractions were getting too strong and too frequent, so the medical pros decided to get her out the fast way. All precautions for supporting a premie were put in place, but baby Vibeke is doing so very well that she was quickly removed from the incubator and allowed to chill with mom and pop. Mrs. TWDC is damn tired, but is doing well, too.
Vibeke (pronounced VEE-bih-k[uh]) is an ancient Norse name that derives from the same root that gives us the names Vivica and Wiebke. In Norse it has two meanings 'Alive' and 'War Fortress', symbolizing strength and perseverance through challenges and great hardship. This name also represents the strong nordic heritage of my wife and, to a lesser extent, myself (I got a lot of Irish in me, too).
Penny was my mom's name.
Sorley is TWDC's real last name. Silly, huh?
MW is probably the one and only online fan forum that I feel a connection to on a level that equals friendship with a lot of the members. So I am sharing these blessings with you all, to complement the blessings that I hold knowing all of you.

Well, looks like the groundskeeper is going to have a crispy patch of grass to take care of.

I thought it was an enjoyable episode. I kind of prefer the slow boil that this show puts on, with sudden bursts of violence (Rick is THE MAN!).
I don't think the accident was to get rid of the baby, but to force the pregnancy out into the open.

Neat.
Reminiscent of Banksy.
I had to look that up because, at first, I thought you were talking about Jason Lee's character from Chasing Amy.
Yeah, I can see what you're talking about.

If the new design is better than the first, the it must be totally awesome instead of just awesome.
Anyhow, not totally sci-fi, but I just finished up an image that'll soon be on t-shirts and stuff to advertise my... "brand", I guess you'd call it.
You can read more about it here: http://wp.me/p277FG-jL

I like eggs?

You have an eye for lighting and shading that I hope to hell I will finally be able to emulate. I fear I am too old to learn new tricks, though...
-
Great work. That is an interesting design in the top two.

I accidentally posted the first image of this in the O/T Artwork thread in Other Anime and Sci-fi but... whatevs.
Anyhow, In between doing a thorough cleaning of the apartment, working on my French, and working on a some mecha desing work for a website, I have been taking potshots at this.
For now the black line work is done (although I will probably go back and adjust once color is added).
My idea is to have the main light source be the thrust from the cruise mode. However, even beyond that, I plan to color in the cruise form several shades darker that the "humanoid" form to differentiate between the two. I'm also stressing a bit about what, if anything, to do for the background. I have been a lot more miss lately than hit with using markers for backgrounds. I think they just don't cover as well over large swathes... Any ideas?
Aside from scale errors (which, hopefully, aren't too noticeable), I kind of fudged some of the details, as finding consistent detailing for the Blassty between the line work and scale models is a lost cause.

Thanks Sketchley! Your insight is always extremely helpful!
Anyhow, on to my next piece, although I am not sure how quickly this one is going to come together, but I will talk about that after the image, in case you don't want to read me rambling on.
So... guess who?
Anyhow, on to the ramblings. Aside from the fact that I will be spending a lot of this week "nesting", as my wife calls it (I call it a common sense thorough cleaning before our baby arrives in a little over a month or so), I am also working on a big project for a website who wants to advertise their different tiers of service using mecha, and utilizing designs from multiple genres. The initial gig pays well and, if it works out, could become a regular thing for me. Woohoo!
But, when the creativity bug strikes, it is hard to hold back. So I will probably be splitting my time between a lot of the things going on my life right now, including work on the image above. Woohoo?

Chillyche- I agree with everything you said. It is like we have the same brain! The lipstick really got screwed up. Uff-dah!
"I figured I do something besides gushing over the work, since I think it's pretty awesome. Maybe some feedback about what isn't working will make the next one even better?"
Precisely.

Yeah, the stars did turn out poorly. I may go back and do more work on that, or just leave it as is.
The Megaroad effect IS supposed to be blurry and out of focus. Whether it works aesthetically or not, it is the effect that I was going for, so I guess it worked...

Except for having something to with weightlifting. And Arnold being in them...
-
Aw snap! Looking dope so far!
Thanks man. It's done...

It is Not Safe for Work?
Just kidding! Pretty cool!
