  1. from the Interesting time - changes at Yamato Toys thread:

    Spoke
to somebody today who knew about the company change prior to Wonder
Festival and is happy with what's to come from Arcadia's Macross product
line. They wouldn't say anything other than that. Let's hope I can find out more once I go to work on the homes here with a pair of pliers and a blow torch.

Hopefully that means take a litttlle bit of pressure off the accelerator before internal speculation runs totally out of control.

  2. It's not just UV that damages objects, it's light. Period.

Rate of light damage is proportional to intensity. So, if the lighting is too bright, then it's going to fade and damage the object.

That said, if you want to totally nerd out there's been some studies on the use of LED's with regard to light sensitive material: http://www.apsnyc.com/LED%20for%20Art%20Applications_Steven%20Weintraub.pdf

It looks like LEDs are better, but it's still a matter of intensity. If you rig an LED up that's super blazingly bright, then yes, it's going to damage the object.

  3. I've used a gundam action base 2 to prop up my battroid YF-21 (which is probably the least stable macross toy I've ever had). Take note though that it's really small and the mounting head unit is totally different, so EXO's adapters won't work. Action base 2 is too small to hold up anything in fighter or gerwalk mode.

    Never used action base 3.

  4. So, I love Yamato's VF-4, but I couldn't shake the feeling that it really needed some appropriate squadron markings. The FB2012 stuff was a nice addition, but I didn't want to get started with trying any paints on this thing. I'd ruin a $300 toy, for sure.

I played with subdued skull squadron colors and the VF-1 wolfpack colors from a VF-0A sticker sheet, but it still didn't look right. The blue trim clashed with the schemes and that just bugged me.

Did some digging in the VF-1 Master File books and found a photo of some similar looking gray w/ blue trim VF-4s flying with an AK tail code. Ok, I can work with that. Found some old 1/48 A-4 Skyhawk decals with an AK tail code marking and decided to decal up my VF-4 tailfins. Ended up using the old multi-color squadron leader markings too. After some tests, I figured out that 50% flat clearcoat and 50% semi-gloss clearcoat matches yamato's plastic sheen perfectly.

Regardless, I know I'm not as good a builder as some of you out there, but I think it looks pretty good and I'm happy with it.

  5. Hate for Gray Fox? Really? That's super surprising to me too, since he always seemed like once of the most popular side characters.

I'm in the same boat. MGS Raiden wasn't what I was looking for in the game. Wasn't much of a fan of his "apology" version in MGS4 either. Oh well.
