Yes it is Alto. Alto's character description tells us that he comes from a kabuki theater background. And from the OP, one can take a good guess at what his role was.

What about a railgun or linear gun? VFs do generate a large amount of energy. That energy could be used to power a railgun or linear gun. Linear guns seem to be popular in Gundam right now.

A "sharpshooter" or "marksman" usually works with a regular unit and provides long-range support. Snipers usually act independently (normally with an observer/spotter) with a specific objective. The traditional term for "sniper" is "assassin". Mikhail's role is more support which is why I would lean toward "sharpshooter". But these days, "sharpshooter" and "sniper" are used interchangeably.

Alto's personality isn't that he wants to buck authority (although, you might consider it that), but he wants to be free of restraints. He was born into the kabuki tradition, but he didn't want to do kabuki theater. He wanted to fly higher, but the dome held him back. He wanted to pull off some cool moves, but the performance producers changed the program and wanted a simpler program. Every time he wanted to do his own thing, something held him back. It bothers him a lot apparently.

Translations and sub groups? Every group is gonna do their translation a bit different from the others. I say pOtato, you say potAto. Unless you call the VF-25, "Brief 25", then we have problems. As for names, the Macross Compendium is a great place to get as close as we can get to proper name translations.

You have no idea how much we can nit-pick just 1 episode. I mean this is talking about a Macross series in a place called Macross World. But this pales in comparison to our nitpicking of the toys (Look at the Toy section). Anyways, feel free to bring this up to the Feedback section. Let's get back to episode 2 discussion.

Concerning spoilers Best thing to do if you wish to remain completely spoiler free is to not read this or similar threads, at all. I could have a permanent spoiler ban but that's even more annoying. I have no schedule on when subbers release episodes. If some people take a week to release a sub, do you expect me to hold a spoiler ban for a week? What if it takes 2, or 3 or 4 weeks. I'm not going to hold a spoiler ban that long. Lots of people here have already watched it raw or read Random Curiousity's blog for a summary. Having lots of threads is really redundant and gives the mods just more threads to watch. The best thing to do is just stick to the 1st post. I'll try to update it more often. Oh and now would be a good time to avoid this thread cuz the spoiler ban ended about an 2 hours ago.

According to the Bandai press release, the run time is 82 minutes. The 2 editions of episode 1 only account for 59 minutes. So episode 2 has to be on that volume.
