  1. No sir, I don't like it. Looks even worse than R. Corman's cheese-fest version. New ver. of the Thing sucks. Looks like he's made of play-doh instead of stone...
  2. Hear hear! Someone else who understands great movies aren't all about how powerful your I-Mac or-whatever-the-hell-they-are graphics stations are. From the third link posted above... Why, one wonders, in this age of computer graphics, is a full-size model necessary? ``Computer graphics wouldn't give you a genuine feeling of the Yamato's enormous size,'' says producer Haruki Kadokawa, who has numerous hit movies to his credit. ``You couldn't get the reality of it across with computer graphics. On the big screen the difference would be obvious at a glance. A movie rises or falls on how real its make-believe seems, so we do everything we can to simulate reality.'' Oh, okay; so they've apparently only built the front half of the ship, and not the entire thing (that makes more sense, but still hella expensive--how much is 600 mil. yen roughly?).
  3. Hard to tell from the angle of that photo, but I think it could be this plane, which is an earlier P-51B model; those only had 4 guns in the wings, IIRC... If it IS this plane...hard to believe; but after the war when all those planes weren't needed anymore and surplused, this plane was sold to a trade school for $1. It's literally worth more than a million times that today...
  4. Say, isn't that P-51 in the colors of the 332nd FG? SWEE-EET!! As a kid, I always dreamed that if I ever became a millionaire, I'd buy my very own P-51; I knew I'd want it painted in the colors of the Tuskeegee Airmen.
  5. Sweet Lord, it IS real! That pic doesn't look like a colorized photo to me. Only one question though. WHY the he-l would someone undertake such a massive project? That's cool, but insane as heck.
  6. Is anybody else sick to death of all the hype surrounding Danica Patrick? If I see one more over-promoted interview/soundbite/feature on Danica, I may HURL! Not to detract from Danica herself--I saw the "wobble" during qualifying for the Indy 500, and no doubt, that gal's got the skillz. But what's making me sick to death is the over-hyping being done by the mainstream media. This whole "I am woman, hear me roar" routine really only serves to eventually make the masses tire of the phenom they try to create. I mean ferchrissakes, she's getting more coverage than the guy who won the bloody race! That, plus I think there are other women drivers more deserving of the attention. I for one cast my vote for Milka Duno. She's accomplished, in many different types of race car--from "baby" LMP 675s to the big dog LMP 900s, to GTs, even in those sh-tty Daytona Prototypes; and she shows she's competitive in all. Most of all, she's got WINS to her credit. She's smart; she's got like 4 master's degrees. And not to mention, she's gorgeous. I remember when I worked the paddocks, she had a grace of step and an aire that would turn heads. Whenever she walked through, all eyes were on her; us guys would stop what we were doing just to watch--definitely a class act. http://www.citgo.com/Sports/CITGORacing/Driver.jsp
  7. I knew if I did a search something'd turn up; here's a link to some pics of the 1/10 scale model. This thing kicks a$$. http://www.1999.co.jp/asp/GoodsDetails_e.asp?It_c=10044130 I wonder, is it lighted? I guess it'd be too much to ask if someone rigged muzzle flashes, turning turrets, etc. I'm sure this is static display only? 1/1 scale recreation? A nice dream, but I seriously doubt it. That'd literally take the resources/captial of a not-so-small nation, wouldn't it? Okay, a small nation if wood & other [comparatively] cheap materials were used? And to think; an even bigger class of b'ship was on the drawing boards for the IJN, with 20" guns!
  8. I like that "new" ARC fighter--definitely consistent in "feel" with the other ship designs from the prequels; for me they bring to mind or seem reminiscent of the streamlined era of the 30's, vs. the more boxy "80's" feel of the original trilogy's designs (the prequels' designs make me think of Criss Craft boats, and other style cues of that era). That ARC one reminds me most of this pre-war bomber. The s-foils don't really suit it though; they seem tacked on as an afterthought, to lend a sort of connection to the X-Wings that would "follow."
  9. Sweet Dahgi! Mine still languishes in it's box in storage...
  10. The Vigna Gina and Dahgi Iris are some pretty cool "bad-guy" MS's.
  11. Still some of my favorite Gundam designs, although I still haven't seen the movie. I only wish I had the time/skills to give my F91 models the build ups they deserve.
  12. Only because they didn't leave Pontiac's in-house people in charge of it...
  13. From motortrend.com : new 2008 GTO spied. Interestingly enough, this design is under the direction of Mike Simcoe, the Aussie who's credited for the design of the current "GTO" (Holden Monaro). It looks pretty good; the rear trunklid is too dang high though. That raising waistline gives it a bit too much of a "pinewood racer" wedge look to it--that, plus rearward visibility has got to be absolute sh-t (gives the overall body outline the shape of a doorjamb, with a roof on it). The good thing for fans of the traditional "muscle car" platform (i.e. front engine, RWD) is that this "Zeta" platform should serve as the basis for more models. Even saw scuttlebut somewhere that the Chevelle nameplate may make a return. The sceptic in me says GM engineers/marketing will figure out a way to fu-k it up though, just like they did with the "Malibu" badge.
  14. LOL, now if this isn't suggestive advertising, I don't know what is. Now, exactly what they could be suggesting about the Pacer is beyond me... Hey, anybody remember those Matadors in "The Man With the Golden Gun"? Or how about the "Levi's Edition" cars (was it the Pacer or Gremlin)? Ugh! And to think, such marketing gags like that are cyclical, i.e. "Eddie Bauer" Explorers, etc. etc....
  15. Yeah, AMC sold those Eagle things back in the early 80's. Weren't they 4WD or AWD? Arguably among the first of the "crossover SUV/cars" that seem to be becoming the rage among auto makers nowadays.
  16. Now that Rambler definitely counts in the rare/originality columns. I like the Javelins, especially the late 60's models run in T/A and the Rebels like this '68. There's actually one around where I live--remember seeing it was for sale. Was in need of some TLC, but it's the only one I've ever seen in person. AMC's are definitely some rare machines.
  17. Duncan Dayton's beautiful Lola T-70, hard on the binders at the Walter Mitty. Sexy and wicked fast.
  18. Another nice Sylvia...I wonder if these were imported under the "motorsports use only" clause, and have to be "returned or detstroyed in 1 year's time"?
  19. Some nice pics from the recent Drift Atlanta event...
  20. Now I suppose these two f'ing idiots are gonna probably feel somehow entitled to reparations, like G. Lucas is in some way responsible for their thinking deficiencies. F'ing DUMB ASSES. Oh yeah, they'll get their 15 minutes of fame; the tape is bound to surface on "reality"/"extreme" shows everywhere. It's only too bad that they didn't succeed in removing themselves from the gene pool, thereby doing society a favor...
  21. this website is pretty neat, with all the links and filmogrophies and such. http://www.imdb.com/ If you guys want to know what Boba Fett really looks like underneath his mask, look for "Captain Colton" in ep. III--he's the actor who played everybody's favorite neighborhood bounty hunter in ESB and ROTJ. I used to wonder "how'd they get a guy that looked so much like the emporer in ROTJ to play Palpatine?" Easy, you just get the same guy! On an interesting note, he also plays the friar that gets roasted in Dragonslayer (one of my all time fav dragon/sorcery/sword flicks). I wonder what his take is on what "motivates" his character--he's only been Palpatine/the emporer for 20-something years...
  22. Cute nose, huh? Well, I was thinking what a great looking pair of tentacles she's got. Yeah, that's it, great tentacles.
  23. Well, do we actually see the embodiment of the "Empire" as we know it in this film? And curiosity gets the best of me--are all the bad guys English? I remember from the first trilogy, all the bad guys sounded as though they had English accents. I know, it's more to do with casting issues (probably wanted to draw on classically trained acting talent? location of filming/casting? they make great bad guys though). The uniforms always seemed influenced by WWII German uniform designs; the "fluffy" pants, the high boots, the olive drab schemes, all remind me of old war movie German uniforms. Anyway, I know the debate could be endless; there will always be some who will find fault with certain films, either the originals or the new. Me, I'm a bigger fan of the originals myself. All this has only served to inspire me to get out the ol' VHS tapes of the originals and do some reminiscing (got ESB on the tube now). I've got the "original" remastered versions, and from what I've seen posted about Lucas' latest changes to them, I'm glad I didn't get the later DVDs. swapping original actors out in key scenes? changing dialogue? That's just f--'ed up storytelling. Even with his original tinkering back in '97, Lucas STILL let some flubs slip through and find their way into the final product. I love finding little stuff like that in movies. My favorite has got to be in ESB during the battle on Hoth. Anybody else notice: when Luke crashes and takes out the AT-AT, just after the head explodes, look at the AT-ATs rear foot. The trained eye will catch the little stick that somebody pokes up through a trap door in the floor to tip the model off balance and get it to fall over! Not to detract from the film, but I love little stuff like that.
