  1. I believe there is a period of ten years between the final fight and when you see Lark again. Hence why Chiko looks much more mature in her scene. That would probably be enough time for them to get Earth right again.
  2. That huge honkin turbo is nothing to sneeze at. It's bigger than the guy's head. I'm betting this thing is diesel?
  3. "Journey to the Line" - that's the name of the track. Hahahah, that's exactly what got me into watching Thin Red Line too. After watching how awesome it sounded in the Pearl Harbor trailer, I thought that was part of the final score for the actual Pearl Harbor movie and thought it made the trailer seem so great. Needless to say, when I watched Pearl Harbor in its entirety, the movie itself was drivel, the score was pretty meh too with not even anything close to "Journey to the Line" in it.
  4. I had to say the most powerful moment for me in the whole film was when the Marines charged the Japanese base and the Hans Zimmer score went into full gear. It made me a instant Hans Zimmer fan. Malick is definitely a polarizing director. Thin Red Line and The New World have to be among the prettiest visual works of the last few years if you ignore the polarizing dialogue. I did like Elias Koteas' character and I think many of the actors did great jobs. I did think it was interesting to show what drove Nick Nolte's character - the whole being passed over deal and feeling old and used. Something caught my eye when I watched it again a year back. That girl that plays Ben Chaplin's wife in the many flashbacks is none other than Mirando Otto - more famously known as Eowyn in LOTR.
  5. Weren't Spielberg and Hanks rumored to be working on a Band of Brothers type miniseries about the Pacific theatre in WW2? I remember hearing about this around the time the Band of Brothers DVD set came out, so that was 2 or 3 years back.
  6. Now what I am really shocked about is that Hollywood made a film of the Japanese viewpoint and just incredibly found a way to NOT cast Zhang Ziyi. ZOMG!!!
  7. Every Terence Malick film comes out as pure visual poetry. The dialogue as well comes out as ethereal prose. I can understand why many people malign Thin Red Line and The New World because they expect it to conform to the usual war movie or such without knowing how Malick approaches things. It would be similar to expecting Mamoru Oshii to make something simplistic like Grappler Baki without his usual tendencies to throw in philosphical and political meanderings. I remember the actors in The New World commenting that Malick would film countless reels of the nature around them and how they half expected their footage to be all cut out and replaced with essentially a nature movie. I think if Thin Red Line was cut from the same cloth as every other WWII movie, it would have come and gone and been forgotten ala Windtalkers.
  8. I don't think you can really compare the interiors between the two. One is a rocketman American muscle and the other is Euro luxo exotica. That's like comparing Britney Spears to Monica Belluci. As for the panels, I kind of agree but they were part of the original design from the very start. The designer probably harbors strong feelings about them to keep them there from the very start. I think they were a silver color in earlier prototypes instead of the flat black. The one thing I miss from the proto to final model is the LED headlights, even if the technology still has to be perfected.
  9. They should remove the horizontal strakes in the front side intakes. It'd look a lot less busy. Other than that, the thing is absolutely amazing. A Lambo in a tuxedo basically. Isn't there a V10 version as well?
  10. Or the jerk that would pour slurpees on poor helpless geeks at malls. But I think I'd rather have an actor of his talent over an "actor" of questionable talent like Dalton. I'm sure Downey Jr. could pull it off if he set his mind to it. Could you really picture him as a reporter in Good Night and Good Luck? He did a fine job there. I've never been a big fan of Iron Man, so thats the first time I have seen the Ultimates Iron Man, and I love that design. First Iron Man design I can say that catches my eye. Makes me think of Appleseed landmates.
  11. Actually, does anyone have a pic of MP Starscream in fighter mode next to a 1/48 Valkryie? I'd like to see the size difference.
  12. I believe this name was first coined in one of the Super Robot Wars games.
  13. Oooh, that was Chiko communicating through the cat?! I have to rewatch that episode I guess.
  14. If it was named differently and had all the Gunbuster references taken out, it would have been enjoyable on its own merit, both for art and story. I do think that it suffers from the "smaller scale" problem, where instead of expanding upon the universe in the first series, they compact things down - limiting humanity to the Sol system, lesser powered space vessels, the showdown in episode 6 being much less grand than episode 6 in first series, etc. I use to watch the end of the first series and be amazed at the jump in technology, then wonder what the technology of 10,000 years later would be like. I'm a little underwhelmed after seeing what that future - sperm shaped ships, wacky looking robots, limited human capabilities (for the most part, the exception being Topless). I wanted to see the cool stuff in episode 6 of the original be expanded on like the floating dolphin crew members, psychic crew members, gigantic ships, the neat technology on the bridge of the Eltreum and more! Maybe they can "Macross II" this? Thinking back over the series, notice how Lark's cat disappeared and never showed up again? Why bother introducing the damn thing in the first place?
  15. I just have to ask about episode 6 now that other people have watched it: SPOILER QUESTION (highlight): Why was it necessary to use Earth as the final weapon? Why not use Mars or Mercury? It seems kind of silly to me considering you'd think they'd want to preserve their homeworld even if they have colonized other planets. Not to mention they'd permanently damage the planet just by moving it the way they did. Terraforming technology by their time or not, it'd take a long time to get things back to normal. It'd be like hitting the reset button on the whole planet.
  16. I wonder why no one has taken the approach of lampooning the whole fight and just diving on the ground without being hit, running circles in the ring, sitting down in the middle of the ring, etc to make Boll look even dumber. I mean, why play his game on his terms? It's already a spectacle, so why not? The one guy that spit blood had the idea, but only after he got clocked. "Boll's next picture is "In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale." Like "BloodRayne," it's also based on a video game. It features Loken again as well as Jason Statham, John Rhys-Davies, Ray Liotta, Matthew Lillard, Leelee Sobieski, Claire Forlani and Burt Reynolds." Seriously, Ray Liotta?! Most of those actors are talented and are no dummies, so why sign up for dreck? Must be good paying dreck...
  17. So this is animated? Is it by that same guy that did all the other DC Superhero cartoons? Whats the style of the art like? Is it pretty much solid straight lines with primary colors ala Justice League, Batman Beyond, etc? Or does it take a different approach? The stamps look neat, and if the art is like that, I might be interested. Hows the animation quality? Smooth like anime or more crude like most American cartoons?
  18. I'm surprised no one has mentioned this yet. Richard Hammond AKA Hamster of Top Gear is in critical condition after crashing a jet car while filming an episode. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/eng...6.stm
  19. I don't think that's too bad, some recent luxo cars like the Acura RL have small buttons galore in the center console. Although, I have to admit, pushing little buttons in a luxury car is probably not as hazardous as doing it while breaking speed limits in something as fast as a Koenigsegg. Man, those leather Sparco seats are gorgeous...
  20. I just laughed up my guts.
  21. I actually think it's not bad at all. They keep the spirit of the original while not "Hollywoodizing" it and throwing in a bunch of unnecessary and unrecognizable features that render the design so different that it fails to evoke the original designs. *cough cough Bay's Transformers designs cough*
  22. Yeah, that's probably the thing that I liked most about the ending of Top2. It was a nice homage to the original without actually showing them. It's funny, I did the same thing and watched the two endings synced up too. That's not Captain Tashiro. I guess it could be possible, but he'd have to have spend as much time in subspace as Noriko and Kazumi in order to not age.
  23. No problem man, great minds think alike. I do think it is funny when people speak about government conspiracies when talking about extraterrestial life and space travel. As if the government can control the laws of physics. Not that I don't like the idea of mankind spreading out in the cosmos, but all the optimism in the world couldn't get us to Barnard's Star in less than a lifetime. I was watching this documentary called Space Race, which is about the race between the USA and Soviet Union to get to space and to the moon, and its an intriguing series. What makes it good is that it finally tells what was going on in the Soviet space program, since much of the US space program is already well known and documented. I recommend it for anyone that's into this subject. Another great manga that covers a fictional generational account of humankind exploring and colonizing worlds far from Sol is 2001 Nights. It's a great work of hard sci-fi. I only wish there were more manga like it.
  24. The WETA Eva project got a lot farther than Macross Final Outpost ever did. You can see for yourself the designs that WETA drew up on their site. Macross Final Outpost seemed to only ever be an idea and never got far enough to even have design art.
  25. WETA's had it on their slate for years now, although I remember their website saying it was on hold or something. It'll probably fall through if it hasn't already. Edit: Yep, it's still on hold. http://www.wetaworkshop.co.nz/projects/fil...lm/neon_genesis
