  1. I'm curious about the SV-51 works. It just seems like they're illustrations from a story that someone's written. It would be an interesting side-story about the goings-on on Earth during the time period that the SDF-1 was out in space.
  2. I wouldn't say I'm trying to force him into a new medium. I'm trying to broaden his interest in other mediums. I think he's just getting bored with pencil and paper. Perhaps he is getting discouraged by the limitations of that medium. I asked him what is stopping him from drawing more and his answer was what I had expected it to be: "I just don't know WHAT to draw". I suggested that he come up with a project to work on over the summer, such as creating his own comic book. He didn't really have any ideas after a few days, so I suggested that he read a fanfic I've been working on and storyboarding it to see what he can come up with. He's been moderately interested in doing it, but it appears that I'll have to be the one to light a fire under his ass when it comes to this stuff. If anything, his art is the one thing I've been very supportive of for him. I just want to encourage him to keep up the work by trying out his talent in other areas, such as digital media, canvas, and maybe a little clay sculpturing. Definitely good advice, though, Sketchley.
  3. I guess it's tough to track the sales from behind those desks they sit behind while looking at pure numbers from a computer screen. I have to believe that they are in touch with the actual ebbs and flows of the market and they see all of the toys and stuff that makes its way to the US. Perhaps we all live in our own little bubble and we see ourselves as the only consumers in the US... lol. If that was true, they'd have 100% market share! I was just saying that because I am sure that they know of the following that Macross has here in the US, despite not being able to market one single iota of Macross-related products, outside of Plus and II. I wonder if soft sales of those two movies are why they don't want to expand? Did they not sell well at all?
  4. *I deliberated on what section to post this topic, and I felt that the Fan Works forum would get the best exposure to the right people. If any of the mods feel it necessary, move it to the appropriate forum. This is a call out to you artists that frequently peruse this forum. I'm trying to get my younger brother to move to a more modern medium in his art and I need your help. He's been drawing since he was very little and I fear that he's beginning to show a waning interest in creating new works. He's spent pretty much 99% of his time working with paper and pencil; and some colored pencil work as well. I'd like for him to try working with computers to see what he can do and I was browsing the Wacom website to see how much they cost and what they are best used for. However, I'm not well-versed in the know-how of the industry, so here I am asking for some opinions. We're on a moderate budget, so the Bamboo looked like it was a good start for him to see if he really likes working with a digital tablet. There were several Bamboo models and my brain went "ka-thunk" when reading the descriptions to find out which would be best for him. Also, it says that it comes with some bundled software. At the price of the Bamboo models, I am guessing that they're not terribly robust, but are good for starters. If and when he graduates from that software, what programs would you guys say are best for sketch artists? I'd also like to get him a good scanner so he can digitize his current works, instead of losing them in the mess that is his bedroom. What are your suggestions there? You have my thanks in advance!
  5. Whatever happened to just doing the right thing for the fans, despite having to put a few bucks (or in this case, Yen) out of pocket to help spread their work around the world?
  6. Robelwell, I am in the same boat as you are. I'm about 2/3 done with my Macross F fanfic and I am finding it difficult to explain to family members what the hell I've been spending so much time behind my computer screen doing. At least I'm actively typing, or they might think I was doing something somewhat less-than-decent, if you get my drift... For those friends and family who are stubborn as hell and want to know what the hell this "Macross" crap is all about, I have to warn them that once I open their eyes to what it is that I am working on, there's no turning back! I had to put my best friend through hours upon hours of edification so she could finally get to read what I've been writing. I'm starting to get good at the enlightening of the unenlightened... I've almost got the regimen down to a consistent procedure!
  7. The shoulders don't look too shabby. I don't know why, though, but I still like the old ones better. To each their own, I suppose...
  8. If you're talking about the reflector-striped shoulder pads, I say leave 'em in. I like them a lot! Very functional in case you get ejected from your VF and you need to have high visibility for any rescue crews who might be looking for you. ...but that's just me.
  9. Yeah, but I don't know if that falls in line with when Gamlin sees the boy refer to the other man as his father. Gamlin's reaction after seeing that is pretty profound. It was as if it was completely unexpected and almost horrible to see.
  10. Well, I finally forced myself to watch 7 after a few weeks of deliberation. I had watched 3 episodes originally and pretty much dismissed the series outright. It just doesn't have that magic touch I get with the others. I'm through 40 episodes and it's had its ups and downs... At least I get a few laughs from each episode, so that's bonus points! Anyway, I did have a question. When Physica died and Gamlin wanted to give the present to his "son", Gamlin witnessed Physica's wife with another man. That kind of goes with what Physica said when he was talking about his little boy, "Even my own son does not recognize me". However, I was actually confused as to what really was going on. Was he unknowingly raising another man's child? Was his wife cheating on him? Or was he just completely nuts and imagined the whole thing in his mind?
  11. Yay! Those two pics with the Nome sisters should whet my appetite for a bit, but I will soon be asking for MOAR!!!
  12. Yep, I've seen it here before, but it's still a nice pic! Scoured some DeviantArt sites for these gems. Props to the artists who took the time to post these pics for the fans to enjoy. There's a few more Macross-related pics on their pages, but I just picked out the ones I liked most. Wouldn't hurt to give their pages a few hits to see what else they have posted.
  13. Yet another request... Is there any information on the remote beam cannons that were firing on Isamu during his descent to Earth in Plus?
  14. I love the Boondocks and I take absolutely NO offense to the way they portray white people in it. I laugh at the stereotypes imprinted on the white characters, including Mr. Wuncler. He embodies the typical overzealous and ruthless businessman, whom the lower-income class of society is taught to hate. If anything, the show makes fun of black culture and how self-destructive it is. "You're congratulating me for reading??" Huey's reaction to one of Thugnificent's compliments was priceless.
  15. It sure would be hard to see that thing in outer space!
  16. I hereby demand that someone post some good Sara Nome fan art! My favorite Mayan priestess is far too underappreciated for her beauty and strength of character! In return, I offer you some lovely Sheryl. Now, I am normally not much of a Sheryl fan, but I LOVE this costume and I can't wait until the movie becomes available to us unfortunate Americans who don't speak a lick of Japanese and can't afford plane tickets to Japan
  17. Just out of curiosity, would you happen to be looking for any writing assistance?
  18. Thanks, Mr. March. That was something that I had been wondering about. The diagram and your explanation makes sense, so now I can sleep better at night

Oh, snap! I was wondering how people knew that Grace had killed the soldiers that Leon sent to kill her. I missed this little "easter egg", if you want to call it that. Okay, sorry for keeping things off-topic. How's the project going?
  20. I love the new high-res pictures for the mecha. Thanks for the update! I must also request a ventral view of the RVF-25. I actually am curious to know if it is capable of a standard take-off in fighter form from the Quarter's flight deck. I assume the RVF-171 has no issues with its ventral antenna, since it is launched from the Guantanamo-class ships offset from the actual flight deck. I don't know how the Uraga-class carriers typically launch their fighter complements, but it looks like it's a standard take-off in fighter form, just like the Quarter. You never actually see Luca's RVF in fighter form anywhere in the hangar or on the flight deck. I've seen a couple of places in the series where his RVF is stored in the hangar in battroid form.
  21. Two questions for you guru's out there... Are Claudia and Edgar related? AFAIK, they have the same last name and both were alive around the same time... think about it...! Also, at the end of MF ep. 25, when Brera is shown on the Vajra homeworld, standing outside of his VF, he turns to look at the camera. In the foreground, there's some kind of artifact/structure that appears to be stuck in the ground. On close inspection, it looks like it's some sort of protoculture artifact that resembles the idols on the island of Mayan in Zero. Does anyone know what it is?

Just giving you a hard time. Keep up the good work!

That's usually my main complaint about fan art of Meltran-form Klan. They never get the face right. As a matter of fact, I'm actually kind of tired of all of them drawn with her in her pressure suit. I'd love to see some submissions with her wearing civvies... or at least a uniform of sorts. The model is really starting to look good. What's with the slight camel-toe?
  24. Well, I didn't realize that it was a substantial resource drain to have subtitling done in additional languages. I just imagined that it'd be a weekend project for someone to work on, lol. Of course, it requires someone who is very fluent in both languages AND the cultures of both countries to get the translations right. I understand that those people are far and few between because I've seen some really crappy subtitling work done out there. As far as Frontier's subtitling goes, I have only seen Shinsen and LunarAnime subs. LA was a step up in quality and accuracy, but Shinsen did a halfway-decent job... except on the song lyrics
  25. Oh, snap. Okay, I didn't see the Mecha Manual thread. I'll use that in the future. Thanks!
