  1. I only watched the show for the robots after hearing Kawamori was the mechanical designer. He did a really good job. Of course, when does he ever fail in that department?

The rest of the show was a mixed bag. There were some great characters like Dominic and Anemone, but the show just didn't focus on them enough. Instead we had to bear Renton and Rei Ayanami Eureka crying and screaming for 50 episodes. AND THOSE FRICKEN KIDS. OH MY GOD.

  2. The movie made as much sense as EOE, so any theory could be warranted.

Have they made any movie specific toys? I know the Nirvash had a couple differences and the Devilfish had a fastpack in the movie.

  3. Actually, If you read BW's statement, it was Big West that sued Tatsunoko to verify copyright ownership.

That's a pretty dick move on BW's part isn't it? If they had better relations with Tatsunoko, maybe these international problems could get resolved. You know, like taking away HG's rights and giving them to someone more competent.

  4. Back in the day, Zeta was my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE. When the US DVD box set came out, I found it a little draggy in places.

But still, it takes its good sweet time setting things up. I have no idea where you are in the series, but I'd say that the REAL plot doesn't get underway until episode 10 or thereabouts.

I'm not a huge Gundam fan but I will say the original and Zeta are rather exceptional. There's also movie trilogies for both respective series for people who want to cut to the chase.

  5. Well, then at least you were spared the agony of having to tell your friends that, yes, Robotech came from Japan, and no, the stories were not originally connected. I got in so many arguments about that...

I had one friend who stopped speaking to me in middle school because I told him (as we watched the final episode of New Generation together) that "Admiral Hunter" wouldn't be showing up. He called me a liar during the commercial breaks, and as it ended, he acted like it was my fault that he didn't appear.

(God, I'm glad I'm not twelve anymore...)

I'm suprised HG didn't just shove a clip of some random guy proclaiming he was Hunter in the last episode (like they did in SC).

  6. Lagann-Hen suffers from the same problem Top! 2 did; it goes back to the same well too many times. We can only have so many gattai sequences and "even more super" robots before it becomes stale. The last half hour is just one after the other. Less is more, ya know?

Some really cool sequences, but I don't think either of the movies worked at that well.

I hated Gunbuster 2. I tried to watch it because I heard it was some sort of predecessor to TTGL, but I found the characters boring and mecha design was attrocious. It sucked as a sequel too.

Lagann-Hen was pretty good though. Even though the story was essentially the same, it felt more satisfying.

  7. Maybe my opinion of this was diminished from watching a camrip, but I didn't really enjoy this as much as the first film. The pacing was just way too fast and aside from Shinji (and to a new extent Rei) there was barely any character development expected from the rest of the cast. They should of vouched for a new tv series instead of a couple movies if they were willing to give it a new story like this.

I do like the new character though. She's awesome.
