I guess..... looking at the armored VF-25 though.... all I can see are the 4 X 12.7 mm head beam guns, 2 x 25 mm machine guns in the intake (torso when battroid) and the 2 x 57mm ball turrets.... Still looking where the 4x20mm guns are.
I think I never saw them used in the series.... it's all missiles, head lasers and gun pod....

Sketchley posted a link to a partial translation of the Armoured VF-25S page from Macross Chronicle (see link in quote from Sketchley below).
I presume the 57mm beam guns are the two big ball turret mounted guns, but I'm curious as to where the 4 x 22mm guns are located. Any ideas anybody?

Head Lasers?

Well I don't think that the humans used quartz from Vajra as they discovered their Existence around the 2040s.
I think they based their fold technology from the crashed Alien Star Ship (which became SDF-1) macross the remains of the Bird Human, and of course reverse engineering the zentradi warships (there were a lot of them).
Didn't the Vajra Scavenge around to produce the Quartz inside their bodies?
Given that up to the point that Fold Technology didn't quite advance (The Protoculture were using it for so long), and the people from LAI have been improving it (reducing the lag time), does this mean at this point, the humans have surpassed the protoculture?
-
Although they haven't perfected fold technology, since they cannot fold into a different space instantaneously with zero lag time.

Sometimes when I have difficulty I use this site when I used to work for a japanese company...
-
Well we could zoom out and add the quarter on one side and the vajra queen on the other, but that is just filling up to much....
I like your sig btw.... Ozma's rant in "Goodbye Sister Ep"

There are already legitimate English versions of some of the songs from Macross 7 that could be used for a U.S. release, but there are reasons inside and outside the series universe that would make them difficult to use. Still, they'd probably be better than any new tunes from RT.
I rewatched DYRL and wondered, what if they dubbed this in english and used robotech songs?

I guess one of the difference between gundam and macross is that gundam has too much of those unique hero units. Macross has just different color schemes.... Given the number of Valkyries I've seen, I think one gundam series has more units than the whole macross universe combined

I think those OST's are a BIG part part of why it's popular (I know the ONLY thing I like from Mac7 is the music).
Most likely how popular the music is would dictate the success of Mac7 in the west, and I just don't see 90's J-pop going over well enough in the west to make a US release a success.
coupled with the fact that the show is more than a decade old... (selling anything that isn't bright and flashy and pandering to kids these days is almost impossible.)
The Anime industry in Japan is big... so big that even big name bands like L'Arc~en~Ciel has songs for Rurouni Kenshin (Samurai X to the rest of the world) and Full Metal Alchemist. Actually Japanese Animation always has an Opening and Ending theme made by J-Pop/J-Rock artists, unlike American Cartoons which have a Jingle with the name of the show at the beginning and then the instrumental version at the end (That is what I usually notice). Usually when I watch Jap Anime that was moved to an American Channel, they remove the opening and ending themes (maybe to cut costs for royalty).
Macross on the other hand has a lot of insert songs that are essential to the show and removing it is quite impossible (unless you do it the RT way with songs like We Will Win and Stage Fright ~ugh). So if they decide to play macross 7 in the US I think song royalties (or an equivalent) are included.

Well M7 is a hit in Japan that for sure, and mecha is not the reason..
Yeah.... If it didn't become popular there it wouldn't have spanned 49 episodes, 3 part encore, 4 part OVA, 1 movie and lots of OSTs

Does Kakizaki The Steak ring a bell? It should be brown though.
Yes it's supposed to be brown, and spiky... his face doesn't seem to be comedic enough for Hayao Kakizaki though

When you look at it, they're basically being run by a bunch of generation X fanboys, whose talent isn't above that of say, your average fanfiction writer. I wonder if these guys realize how inferior their product is compared to Frontier (for example), or do they all see themselves as modern day American Hideaki Anno's?
That's sacrilege man
It's a shame he didn't become an animator for M7....

I would think the guys at HG would have lives or possibly be working on Robotech Shadow Rising rather then pulling such an idiotic stunt, shocking concepts I know. Then again anything I have seen things with my own eyes that are much harder to believe.
Maybe they have nothing to work on to resort to such stunts

This isn't really a newbie question...but it's not a Frontier series question or a fansub question, either, so I figure this would be the safest place to put it...
I've been downloading the QYQ Frontier BDRip (Vol. 1) and they also uploaded a patch to fix some things. Now, I downloaded the patches, but they're exe files, which are useless on my Mac. Does anyone know what they're for...?
I have completely downloaded the Deculture Edition, which I tried to watch using MPlayer, but the audio is out of sync. The audio's fine on VLC, but the picture freezes. I figured that THAT was the problem, but I have a Q-R release of the Deculture Edition (which I'd completely forgotten about) and strangely, that has the same problems.
Is it my fault, or is this the problem the patch would fix?
Am not sure.... VLC seems to have problems playing MKV files.... I sometimes use BS Player Free where the display seems fine although it's crappy when it comes to displaying subtitiles. But if you don't need them it's ok

Well the reason Mari Iijima didn't want to sing Macross songs that time was because she doesn't want to be identified with Lynn Minmay... these fans are of an uneducated lot... jeez...

I guess I'm an 80's guy, given the fact that I listed a lot of it when my sisters where in their teens

Um what exactly do you mean by that? Homosexuality has generally had a fairly tacit acceptance in Japanese culture for quite some time, but it's place in pop culture tends to less than nuanced. I mean, currently in anime you have the Male as female-stand ins that are the bread and butter of Shonen-Ai, and then you have the 'Gay is funny!' characters. Bobby was awesome, but his homosexuality was played entirely for laughs, his inclusion as one of the 'girls' in the polls kinda shows this same bias. Bobby is a joke, and meant to be taken as such.
That's not particularly new either, hell, I can't think of a non Shojo story wherein the gay character hasn't more or less been played for laughs.
Maybe that was just my experience at the workplace when I was assigned there (I'm in I.T.) a few years back. When I was there they don't tend to be taken seriously that time.
Going back to Macross F... I think the series was a bit rushed... 5 additional episodes would have helped... I guess they wanted everything to be 25.

I heard somewhere that the supposed ending for Chou jikku yousai Macross was Hikaru Flying in his Valkyrie with the two females on the ground.... Sounds familiar....
I guess they do that for more sequels....
But sometimes the story needs completion for everybody to be at least satisfied, especially when there are lots of character development. Simply defeating the enemy isn't enough.
Macross plus had it's relationships resolved as well...
I guess they wanted to milk the M7 stories that's why they had an open ending.... I mean they had the encore, and the dynamite seven after...

Not really, Japanese Magazines such as newtype rate Sheryl as one of the top female leads in Anime. Also there was a popularity poll on who is the top female in MF. Sheryl topped that two, with ranka, alto (hehe) and bobby next. Times have changed I guess. They are moving from the damsel in distress to the independent woman stereotype. Also Homosexuality, which was frowned upon in Japan a few years back have been slowly gaining acceptance.

Planet Dance has always caused a buzzing in my ear (hahaha) ... Maybe because it has been played too many times in the series
Although, surprisingly, Totsugeki Love Heart didn't... maybe because I liked the song better
Watching "Goodbye Sister" gave me a sense of Nostalgia listening to Fire Bomber

Let them have their fun
Maybe it's an excuse for them to integrate more macross into their universe. I mean, some die hard fans are already adding macross mecha into their roleplaying games.
I wouldn't be surprised if they used the Messiah and the Lucifer in the future.
