  1. My friend just told me that the previous earthquakes were "peanuts" compared to the one just now. I stayed there for a while (2 years) and although I felt a lot of earthquakes during my stay there they said that this was the worst experience for them so far.

  2. Actually I believe it does fire all four barrels when firing the gunship, the "gun" below it appears to be some sort of priming charge.

Frontier is the first time we see it. Mac7 didn't bother with that much detail when firing the gunship.

I wonder if the idea is that the primer charge is a way of quickly igniting the SD cannon unlike how the Macross cannon had to build itself up to critical mass before the same blast would occur?

    Well here are the Differences.

    Galaxy Firing Gun

    Frontier Firing Gun

  3. I am pretty sure that those barrels are for the gun's gatling mode. If you'll notice, Quarter's buster cannon is used in a gatling mode when it's not charging for a big blast.

Well other than that feature, the Main gun looks similar to Galaxy's and even 7's Main Gun... We already know how Battle 7 fires it's main gun...

  4. Wrong. If we're talking about all-time records, Voltes V was the one that made the biggest impact in the Philippines. If we're talking about the '90s, it's probably a tie between DBZ and Yu Yu Hakusho (known in the Philippines as Ghost Fighter).

Star TV had RT back in the 1990s. Star Plus (the predecessor of Star World) aired RT in its entirety, while the Star Chinese Channel aired Macross and Mospeada dubbed in Mandarin.

EDIT: On a side note, a travel show on the Star Chinese Channel used an instrumental version of "Sunset Beach" for their opening and ending theme.

True, but only because they dubbed in in Filipino (hehe). I did get a Chance to watch that in 1986. Yuyu Hakusho was a 90's anime (and yes it was Marketed at Ghost Fighter... those really weird names, Genkai was Master Jeremiah, and Ko-Enma was Master Jericho...WTF!). DBZ was late 90's and was dubbed 2007 or 2008.

I think HG didn't see the Philippines as a viable market I guess... so we have Yamato Macross toys in Shelves :)

  5. Interesting discussion on the Philippine version of Macross. As we know, Carl Macek's original plan was to release a faithful version of Macross here in the USA. But since USA networks strongly recommended that syndicated TV shows be 65 episodes or more, we Americans got Robotech instead. If the Philippine networks had no 65 episode model to follow, then that would explain why Harmony Gold released Macross over there as Macross, and not Robotech.

As for Mospeada and Southern Cross, since they wound up being cancelled in Japan, perhaps Harmony Gold thought it would best to rebrand them as Robotech and give them another shot in the Philippines.

For those of you who saw the Philippine Macross, did it refer to Protoculture as a fuel? I'm guessing there was no mention of Zor, nor the Robotech Masters either?

It's a bit blurry (I was 8 at the time hehe) ... But I think it's more faithful to the original.

  6. Yup. The Philippines aired Southern Cross and Mospeada as RT, as well as Sentinels. I do recall, however, that the Philippine English dub of Macross used the

, as well as the RT-ized character names (except Minmay, who was called "Lynn Maria" or something remotely different).

I'm not sure, but Lynn Minmay was Maria, Ichijo Hikaru was Rick Hunter and Misa was Misa (I didn't recall her last name, I was in primary school at the time haha). I'm not sure about the Harmony Gold Theme though but it was Entitled Macross when it was shown here. I'm not sure who did the Dubbing though, maybe it's the same people who Dubbed Voltes V and General Daimos that made it popular here.

  7. IIRC, the gunpod is supposed to be stored within the fuselage on the ventral side. I haven't seen any illustrations that show how that works out; how it fires in fighter mode, and how it ejects when going to GERWALK or battroid.

The Gerwalk configuration for the VF-17 is different compared to any of the other valkyries.... It doesn't use any hands to carry weaponry, in it's place are two lasers. (although I did see that gamlin tried to extend a hand in one of the episodes of M7)

@Seito, yeah I did see the gunpod on the VF-171EX on Episode 24 when Alto was doing his Hikaru impression.

  8. I was uncool and chose the VF-27.

    Now for my argument:

The VF-27 shows major innovation and maturation of Valkyrie design. It pretty much has everything built right in - no need for additional packs or equipment. I have heard it said that this is a drawback for the -27's design, but that doesn't make any sense to me. What does it need? It is said to be comparable to the Super VF-25 already. However, until the advent of the Tornado pack the -25 had neither bells nor whistles to assist it in atmo. Like... where are the missiles? The VF-27 has plenty.

Presumable, the beam weaponry on the -27 has greater endurance than the solid shell based weapons of other Valkyries. The -27's armament is versatile, powerful, and has (I think) good endurance. This makes it capable of performing more missions on its own with less support.

As for accommodation, it has EX gear AND the virtual cockpit with feedback to the pilot greatly increasing maneuvering ability and efficiency. Now, it has been said this this is more a feature of the cyborg pilot, but I would argue that the pilot is a feature of the aircraft. The cyborg pilot is integral to the VF-27's basic operation. I know there are variants that can be flown by anyone, but the thing was built with cyborgs in mind. Given that having implants is common on Galaxy, this isn't a disadvantage at all. The pilot's greater physical endurance, remote operation capability (as seen in ep 21 of Frontier IIRC) and the feedback make this one mean machine.

In contrast to the YF-21, the VF-27 has a reliable control system. I don't consider the -21 particularly novel because it was basically a failure. It required far too much mental discipline for just anyone to fly. And what happened when the pilot became emotionally unstable? Right... it fell right out of the sky. Then it drove a VF-11 into the ground because the operator thought it would be funny. That plane was way to eager to please and that's why it ended up getting dumped.

If anything, the VF-27 is too powerful for regular usage. It would make for a fine special operations aircraft, though. Something where unconventional warfare is prevalent. Kind of like the scenarios seen by most mecha anime protagonists.

If you could make the vf-27 into the "hero" mecha, the pilot should be a cyborg. Maybe there would be a story that would make an ace pilot critically injured in a fight, then converted into a cyborg.

I do like the modularity of the VF-25, even the armored pack makes it awesome. But it did lack some of the features that other hero valks had then: Internal Missile Bays. If the super pack or armored pack are destroyed, only has the head turret laser and his Gunpod to fight with.

I think in MF, the VF-19 and the VF-22 can still keep up with the VF-25 (at least against the VF-171EX)

  9. Some of the things I wondered in M7... Just started re-watching them too... I stopped at the carnival where there were old valkyries and an HWR-00 Monster with 3 old pilots (hehe)

    1. Are those still buildings sticking out of the dome of City 7

    2. Gravity rules are applied in the milky road... I mean you can drive from one ship through another via the milky road... what happens if a one ship strays too far a way? I guess this was fixed in Frontier by having Island Clusters instead of multiple ships.

    3. Explosions due to battle outside cause winds to be blown inside City 7.

  10. photon beam is badass!... seems like Dr. Hell and Mistress Tsubasa Nishikiori have some kind of history... that's for the next ep. :)

if you like this new Mazinger anime series (and in case you haven't watched it yet)... you should check out the Mazinkaiser OVAs... my fave is ep.4 ;)

Episode 4? Isn't that the beach episode? That ep was funny, but it wasn't as epic as the first episode or last episode.

Anyway, aside from Mazinkaiser (which is a must for Super robot fan), you should get Giant Robo: The animation and Tetsujin 28 2004 due to the similar style and execution (all these shows are directed by Yasuhiro Imagawa).

Shiro is the Luckiest of them all (although he turned golden brown in the end hahahaha)

yep... LOL, just teasing that it's my fave ep coz of the fanservice  ... for me ep 1 was the most epic, then the last ep, and next is the Ankoku Dai Shogun OVA...

It's too bad that Lori and Loru keep dying (I think they even died in the new series) by being squeezed there

  11. <Reboot, Restart, Rebrand> = <milking, igotnonewideaslol, plagiarism>

Sometimes it's a necessary evil for some franchises to survive.... I mean batman was way way back and it keeps on just reinventing itself... either that or you kill off the series since the franchise is 40 or 50 years old...
