  1. It is a corporate site owned by HG, promoted by them, the "owners" of Robotech, to be the official center of the franchise, and requires all users to follow all the rules said and unsaid in the TOU. It's been self-serving from the beginning, the problem is fans haven't realize it. It's not a place where fans can really express themselves without HG's, and now the fan mods', consent.

I understand agree with that. What I was saying was that the way that the staff caries themselves at times is as if you cant go anywhere else to talk about Robotech or anything related.

  2. You're right: my sincere apologies to everyone

All the more as Ginrai seems to be the sort of guy who doesn't really pay attention to what his interlocutors say, or worse, to what he says himself: this can easily drives insane even the most peaceful of men, particularly on forums...

Parenthesis shut down for me: again, sorry for the "disturbance in the force" :)

    ...

What about the Battletech novels? Any interesting stuff?

Only the En Garde : Warrior trilogy is available in my country and I wonder what the specialists in here would recommend as additional readings

The novels give a decent historical breakdown on the happenings in th emidst of the wars. They certainly arent the best works of writing to inhabit the sci-fi genre, you do have to have some suspension of disbelief with the stories at times. The biggest problem is that there are too many different writers with different thoughts on the product and it seems the powers that be didnt work to solidify the Battletech/Mechwarrior concept. Also the biggest travesty is when Michael Stackpole got a chance to write some "Star Wars"Rogue Squadron" novels. He was one of the better writers and did much to present a more logical storyline to the history of Battletech the chracters personalities made sence and worked. When he lead up to his work on "Rogue Squadron" , he tried to make the storyline work with the history by characters acting totally against any rationality to thier background. It was honestly hard to know the characters in the same way anymore. Other writers did good work in later novels, but the damage was done. I havent read any of thier newer works since the "Twilight of the Clans" series (with the exception of Measure of a Hero, I would recommend that one).

  3. Yes, it's very true. my demotion from their site had some to do with hear-say and assumptions from other sites, as well as quite a few other people. I know someone's website that was watched every freakin' day by computers at HG simply because it was negatively reflecting them. I know for a fact Steve Yun does not like Robotech fans, based on a comments I've heard him make several years ago. He puts up with them, and puts a good front, really doesn't give a crap about them, save for maybe those that Tommy actually likes. Even then, probably not. Even as a regular poster over there, I always got the impression that they thought of their fans as gullible twits, who were easy to manipulate. I don't think they accept those that have their own opinion.

Your site, HP, shows that you have your own thoughts, and can openly criticize them, and still remain a fan. Those are the people they probably really worry about. You're not on some stupid vendetta, you don't hate the franchise simply because it's not Macross or something like that, you have valid issues with the way they run things. The simple solution that most will give here is simply leave it all behind. But being a fan isn't about just abandoning things you like. That, I can understand. And voicing your concerns, and having a place where others can do so is a good thing. Let them read on. WTF are they gonna do, ban you from your own website? Getting banned is the worst thing they could do to some fans, cause whatever restrains they have on spilling out the crap they do gets disintigrated, and it becomes free reign on their parade. I spent a lot of time telling several others about some of the crap I knew, just never said when I was a member over there, out of respect. But they do it to themselves. Not much you can do to help them when they feel they know better. Maybe one day they'll get over it and fix things.

Yeah, its almost as if they (H.G.) believe if they "controll" thier web-site and the people who inhabit it (by fear of banning and other punishments) that they dont need to be able to have an effective P.R./Customer Relations section. Its almost as if they think Robotech.com is their own "Pravda" (sp? ) and what is said there is the only thing to be said. The fact is that alot of fans get thier info from more than one source, and when Robotech.com alienates its members (in the waythat it does) it ruins their credibility as an information source as well.

  4. They don't give a crap about ideas, they just want to see what their "enemies" are saying about them.

That's right, anyone who dares criticize them instantly becomes added to their sh!t list

all I said is they need a new creative staff and they act like I pied them in the face

    go figure huh?

Sadly , I know what you mean. I walked away from that site myself. The staff were treating fans as enemies when they were asking hard questions and mentioning concerns. I thought that the staff were misunderstanding the concerns as attacks . I tried to help by re-organizing the complaints in a more positive and what I thought a more defined way. I was immediately treated as if I was a "troller" . I honestly was in shock when I read McKeevers responce to me. I didnt expect some flowerly statement of love, but I sure didnt expect that! Anyone who knows me well enough, (and if a person were around for the four-ish years I participated there, they would know me) , would surely have not defined me as a troller. For that staff to treat the fans (myself included) the way that they have, is disgracefull. I understand positive promotion of the product, but defence of the product to the expense of belittling thier own fans is not the way to do that.

By all means, let them see what thier "enemies" are seeing , and maybe enroll them in some customer relations/ customer development seminars too.

  5. My biggest concern with a remake of a show like the A-Team isn't so much the script or the cast, but rather that the original show was absolutely shite and this fact alone dramatically increases the chances of the remake being shite.

    Taksraven

You dont know how much that show entertained infantrymen around the world. I cant remember a time where I wasnt in the field during an excecise and someone would bring up that group of bad guys in that Jeep getting blown up and out of thier ride in slow motion. Brings back the memories.........

  6. IF Yamato ever does a Legioss/Tlead, it would blow away Toynami/Aoshima's version. Because they're such sticklers to lineart detail, articualtion and ingenuity. Which is pretty much where the Beagle got it's principle while making it's ride armor.

My question would be , if Yamato was do do the project with a better quality than Toynami/Aoshima's version, what would the pricing point be set at?

  7. The Garfish is a model, so showing it in pieces beside something else won't help you much. Its wrapped up pretty well and I do not think I'll be unwrapping it soon. I believe the size is listed somewhere on MW. I will look for the length in inches later today.

Here are some pics of it built - now you can see why I had to have it . . .

Can you send me the link to that companies website??

  8. They're still mechas, whatever way you'll look at them

Anyway, I think anyone in here has a pretty good understanding of what the word "mecha" refers to and endless babblings about concepts or representations will not bring us anywhere, I'm afraid: there were mechas before Starship Troopers, including in classic SF stories by western writers, and japanese didn't invent them even if it's in their country that this genre became particularly successful; though I'll agree that it was more an effect of Mazinger Z, which came after Starship Troopers, than Tetsujin 28

On the hand, Mazinger Z doesn't remind me at all of Starship Troopers, from close as well as from far...

Oh, and I don't think Starship Troopers was a particularly huge success in Japan actually: except for an OAV at the end of the 80s, and a rather crappy and unfaitful one while I'm at it, nothing makes me think it is of particular importance in this country

    Gui,

I'm not sure if your reffering to Starship Troopers original written work , or the movie. Just to be sure , VF is talking about the original written work.

  9. Wow, I'm seriously in shock and awe. I actually agree with Jeebers on something (military story and advisors)! I think that this is a first!!! Next thing you know, I'll find out he loves a good think crust pizza too!!:lol::lol:

  10. It looks like, despite being banned, HappyPenguins's website (which openly criticizes Harmony Gold) is still under surveillance by someone at Harmony Gold. There're oddly frequent hits from the same computer in LA.

I hope that H.G. is "monitoring" other websites , they might actually hear the legitimately good ideas that have been discouraged on thier site by people who have no idea on what customer service is about.

  11. Yeah, agree with you there.

It's sad when people don't know anything about Heinlein's original "Starship Troopers" novel, since it pretty much started the whole "powered suit" thing in science fiction. This is Macross World, for crying out loud!

I think Verhoeven's film is an entertaining spoof of the novel, as well as an interesting mind-frak for American audiences ("WE are the Nazis...") Unfortunately, that pretty much went right over the heads of 99% of American viewers. I can understand why he hated the original novel -- the book IS an extreme right-wing, libertarian polemic. What is strange though is to have the movie be a _stealth_ spoof, posing as a straight adaptation. Heinlein was probably rolling in his grave...

There is definitely room for a more faithful remake, with the powered armor. They would unfortunately probably make it all CGI now, but with mo-cap it might still look good.

The seen with the guy griping about his fellow soldier setting off a nuke "too close" to him would be hillarious!!!

  12. Gimme a break. Tetsujin 28 is a robot controlled by a remote control box. No one rides in it. It's a very different concept.

Honestly, best thing to think about a Battletech mech is to think it as the next step in armored combat from a tank. Its more powerfull, somewhat more agile. In a tank you have to move the turret to get a bead on the enemy, in a mech you have the torso and all the joints to bring into line while keeping your balance with its legs. Also where tanks have from three to five crew , most mechs are only one guy. Its almost litteraly Robot-Jox (as much as Im sad to say anything about Robot-Jox at all), Solaris VII almost screams it.

  13. Nice blanket statement there. You know I read Starship Troopers and know that the humanoid weapon is meant to fast, agile, and lethal. I know Japan loves that book because Heinlein's powered suit is literally the basis for all mecha and I can guess the FASA guys also read it because of their oh so liberal use of terms like "flamer" and "jump jet."

Oh yeah, glad you can read, cookies in the mail.

  14. Nice blanket statement there. You know I read Starship Troopers and know that the humanoid weapon is meant to fast, agile, and lethal. What in Hades was that supposed to mean?? If the FASA mechs were supposed to be "fast, agile, and lethal" why is it that whenever a guy (in thier stories) fires a weapon that only creates half to a quarter of the mechs heat sinks ability to dissepate heat theyre sweating to death in the cockpit? I'm giving answers on game mechainics, and youre looking for a flowery dissertation that fills in all loopholes between A GAME and reality?

  15. I would hardly call that "Destroying" the F1. It's simply a question of horsepower, really. When you've got a 270+ odd HP advantage, that's doggone hard to overcome--particularly at higher speeds, where aerodynamic drag increases exponentially as a function of speed, and the need for HP to overcome it increases in kind.

Meh, give me the F1 8 days of the week. The Veyron is an aesthetic vulgarity---looks like a dung beetle, with wheels. <_<

Quite a testament to the F1, really. Unless you take them to a place with vast expanses of straight, perfectly smooth highway--like Abu Dhabi? the high deserts of CA? etc--that 17+ year old McLaren will hand the Bugatti it's a$$. B))

*edit* that video is actually an excellent real-world demonstration of the principles of aerodynamic drag as related to speed, and power to weight ratios' affect on acceleration.

    Now you know!

    And knowing's half the battle!

    Yo, Joe!!

Also , its where that power is, how much you can rev it, and what the gearing is. It looked to me like the F-1 was geared shorter and/or hit its rev peak sooner. You can have all the power to weight you want, but if your set up to max at the half mile mark and the other guy gives the gearing up to keep reving further down the road , once you overcome interia youll push through.

  16. But. GM still just doesn't get it. Now maybe, if they could build the '59--or better yet, the 'shoebox' '55-'57 ver--Bel Air body, but with the safety features/structural integrity of a modern car, then maybe more people would want to buy their cars. [i know, that's blissfully naive. the generation that appreciated/demanded those cars is aging, no longer as viable a market to justify actually mass producing retro-inspired cars, based on 50+ yr old designs--just being facetious]

As long as they continue to build cars with *bleh* exterior styling, shi**y ergonomics, and cheap feeling/looking interior materials; then they'll likely continue needing Uncle Sam to hold their hand and keep them from sinking further into financial ruin...

But hey. At this point, they could almost say: "fu*k it, let's try it." Couldn't do much worse than they already have. They'll likely get bailed out whether we want it to happen or not, anyway.

Before they can be ready to do that , they need to show some progress. If they can shave 200 pounds off the Camaro and tune the suspenion better for a more confident handling feeling , then they should be able to go retro and make it worth it.

  17. You're spelling and grammar is too good.

Which brings up a good reason to enjoy Memo's caps-lock problems...it makes it much easier to parody his style. ^_^

On "MEMO"s spelling and grammar, isnt English his second language? I was under the impression that he is from South or Central America.

  18. In a world controlled by Harmony Gold....
