I hope it's more fun to transform than the Sv-262.

I thought the SV-262 transformation was okay for the most part as far as difficulty is concerned, but the parts I hated was getting the hands in while taking it back to fighter mode without breaking the dang thumbs. It was also really fiddly to align properly sometimes. On top of that, it was stressful trying to transform it with the tight tolerances giving little room to move certain pieces while trying to avoid scraping off paint. It's the stress and worry that made it not fun for me.

I hope Bandai's 21 will not be so stressful that I have to worry about parts breaking or paint scraping off.

  2. That's a pretty amazing rendition using Legos. You'd think Kawamori himself put that together while prototyping the design.

  3. Okay, this is pretty awesome. Joytoy revealed Leviathan dreads for IF and SoH. At 1/18 scale, these are going to be pretty massive.

The Redemptor dreads were done very well and had a lot of presence on the shelf and I expect these to be similar in that regard also.

They were trying to get old rich customers with money to burn interested. It’s a lot of plastic, but it’s a derpy simple design that should be no more than $50 tops

Yeah. There's trying to get customers with money to burn and then there's this...

$300 could get you something actually good like a DX VF-1 or something.

Well, if there are suckers that are actually paying $380 for these things, good on Toynami for finding people to bilk. 😁

...And over $300 for that awkward of a sculpt AND wheels on the feet!? I get what Jenius said and where they're maybe coming from, but if I was a little kid and got this, I'd be singing the Sesame Street song "Which one of these is not like the other...?" At that cost point too! Wait, I already said that😁

Maybe I'm just to much of a realist - as much as I like "campy" things. - MT

Holy crap! 😮 I was like what's this $300 item he's talking about? Then I realized you were talking about the above toy which I thought was only maybe $15-20 and I thought I was being generous with that estimation. What drugs were they taking and in what vast quantities?

My money's on them going for "Little Horus" Aximand instead.

He too has a miniature, but unlike Garvi he stays with the Sons until his death during the Siege.

Yeah, pretty positive they'll make him. Aside from Abaddon, they're kind of lacking in the named SoH characters at the moment. IF at least has Sigi and Faf.

Considering his role in the story, I doubt Garvi's going to show up as part of the Joytoy Sons of Horus line.

He only spends the first three books of the sixty-four book Horus Heresy series as a member of the XVI Legion.  Most of his appearances in the series are as one of Malcador's Knights Errant, the Legion-less group of Astartes that carried out various special operations on the Sigilite's orders and later...

      Reveal hidden contents

... took on new names and became the first Grand Masters of the Grey Knights...

... shortly before the start of the Siege of Terra.

It was only after the Knights Errant were disbanded that he started painting his armor again, and went back to using the colors of the pre-Heresy Luna Wolves during the Siege.

If a Garviel Loken figure is coming, it'll probably be either in the Knights Errant marking-less gray armor or in old Luna Wolves white.

Even so, given that there is an official mini for him, I wouldn't put it out of the realm of possibility.

Thanks for posting! They made that Valk with shooting fists!? I think they got their series confused!? Talk about shooting someone "the bird"🤣 - MT

    LOL

I didn't even notice the ejectable fists until you mentioned it. Where the heck did they pull that from? This isn't Mazinger!

And this is an officially licensed toy?

Kind of, this is an old pict but the force hasn't really changed much outside some additions. Like this 'monster'

That KX139 painted up like that does seem very similar to the VB-6 Konig Monster. Very nice!

  10. More Sons of Horus stuff from Joytoy revealed during Toyfair and up for pre-order.

Disappointed that they haven't done Garviel Loken yet. Hoping he's coming at some point.

Just noticed this thread.  Does anyone here play, or it just about the Joytoy figures?

    It's about all things WH40k.

Tabletop wargaming is not really my thing, so I never played. Played a bit of space hulk way back though.

The very first Dawn of War game was what got me into WH40k and I dug into the lore and such after.

I liked the minis and thought about collecting them, but the size and fixed poses turned me off on the idea.

The JoyToy stuff was perfect for what I wanted, though I didn't start collecting until Roboute came out which gave me the push to start.

Before that, I had gotten a couple of the early McFarlane intercessors, but they just didn't do it for me when I got them in hand.

Interesting, I honestly wasn't expecting to see them roll out something from that grand tome we call Codex: Australian Wildlife... er... Codex: Tyranids.

It looks like they've done a great job with the sculpts as always, though the color scheme from the cover of the Codex is definitely one of the less interesting/appealing ones. 🤔

It was probably inevitable since they they were doing the space marine portion of the Leviathan box set with the new terminators, Agemman, librarian, chaplain, and sternguard. So now they're doing the other half of it with the nids. Hopefully they sell well because it's nice to have more than just SM.

Yeah, the sculpts are great and I think they've done a good job of hiding the joints. The colors aren't quite right for Hive Fleet Leviathan though which is strange because normally they do a good job matching the colors to those of the official minis. The overall skin should be more pinkish. The gun shouldn't really be the same color as the skin. Not quite the right purple for the carapace either, but good enough I suppose. I expect that I will need to fix the colors when I get them.

How does Retributor Armor "brush"?  Many gold paints lately (looking at you, Vallejo) are very "sticky" and horrible to use, even if the color is nice.

Might need to thin it a bit. If I had to do it again, I would probably just thin it enough to airbrush it on as my paint brushing skills are not the best. I recently got some Citadel contrast medium and it seems to help the citadel paints flow better as well when brushing.

Small are touchups like I did in my pic should be fine. Doing something like a whole strip, I'd probably use my airbrush.

That nose gear looks awfully far forward, but I couldn't quickly/easily find any references for it.

Here's a pic with it partly out. It does seem pretty far forward, but not nearly as far forward as it appears to be on the toy.

I recently picked up a 19 page Mospeada pre-production marketing art booklet on one of the Japanese auctions sites for a whopping $20

Included is an early description of what the series was going to be about, and it had some very early (Feb 83) pre-prod designs (Diver mode was referenced as Gerwalk in the text block...since what the hell is a 'diver'...but they knew Gerwalk from Macross lol. It is noted as Diver in the actual Art)

Note the extra large cannons and the early helmet designs n the Ride-Armor, and the rounded heels and rectangular intakes on the Legioss.

These are a right about the time of the awesome set released by Roger Harkavy in the "Imai Files" collection.

Example of little differences-notice the earlier B&W version (feb) vs the awesome colorized from Roger (march)

Wow, that's a really nice find. Some nice art in there. That's pretty funny they actually listed gerwalk in there.

Is this a new issue?  Wonder if it's the scan or if Arcadia are going with the darker green?

I was wondering that too. I really hope it's darker like that. It looks better that way, imo.

  17. Got my IF despoiler squad and a breacher with the graviton gun. They looked pretty good already, but I decided to do a bit more with them. Joytoy said it wasn't feasible to have their workers paint up all the studs and such, so I took it upon myself to do that.  Painted up the studs on the armor for the despoiler marines and made my first attempt at painting a plasma pistol because it didn't look right by default.

I think the extra effort makes these guys stand out more.
