Old 1/72 Gerwalk kit. Worth it?

I saw one of these at my local Mandarake the other day for around 1200 yen. Would it be worth picking up? How much work would I need to do to make it look nice by today's standards? I know I would have to at least replace the "fists of ham" those old kits have. Anyone ever built one of these?

I'm not sure about Imai, but the ARII kit I bought ages ago [Hikaru VF-1J GERWALK] had a pretty dinky GERWALK mode, and the Valk painted illustration was deceptively dynamic.

You might have to do a little customizing of your own if you want an A-stance for your GERWALK, as there's no telling with these old kits.

$15 isn't bad for a 1/72nd old school valk. It's no Hasegawa and looks more like the lineart/anime than a real model. These typically had "meaty claws" for hands, big feet, and other over exagerated features. But they're still cool if you ask me. If I recall correctly the nose will need some work too. - MT

Did Bandai use Imai's old molds for the 15th Anniversary releases they did? If so, then I may go ahead and pick that Imai one up, since I built one of the Bandai kits, and it wasn't too bad.

I too had one back in 85, they are IIRC as already said more anime than real plane/robot as say a Hasegawa would be, but in my opinion you'd be better buying it for a keeper than building it up. Just go out and get the Bandai version and build that the same as the Imai one and display it next to the minty boxed one. Back in 2007 I nearly got one at Mandarake in Shibuya but put it back when I found more stuff that I couldnt pass up, IIRC it was the same price then, although the exchange rate was far more favourable then, still a good price.

As far as the noise cone I have in my collection a Macross book that shows the modification needed to correct the nose issues. I may be able to dig it out if needed as it is in storage at my parents place.

Pretty good shape for an old kit. Even still has the glue!

I was so excited back when Bandai released the Patlabor MG series, then so dissapointed that they never did a Helldiver.

If you want to sell your VF-1S 1/48 hasegawa valkyrie I pay immediately :p

No thanks! However, in all seriousness, I would part with the Lucifer if I got a serious offer.
