  1. Get the one that is either limited or has more content first. Regardless of the license, the bulk of the costs is in development and production (materials). Or if both items are mass production and not limited, wait it out. Eventually gets cheaper, and use the money to buy up the cheaper ones first.
  2. Can someone just summerize all the differences between CMs, Toynami, Aoshima and Beagle (scale, quality, differences - eg headsculpts?) I've been out of it for nearly a year and am slowly getting back into things. A tag for mainly best sculpts and quality would be easiest I guess. Yes, I'm back.... again!
  3. If you like Sci Fi comedy, actually, comedy in a Sci Fi setting, pickup Robert Asprin's "The Motley Phule" and the rest of the Phule's series. If you like that kind of humor and want fantasy, pickup his Myth Series. Cracks me up and great re-reads on business trips!
  4. I don't use codec packs as I like to tweak my system and keep it very light: Media Player Classic + MPC Cinema Edition (for movies to prevent tearing under Vista/DX10) Xvid 1.2 - plays Divx, Xvid and MP4 CoreAVC - AVC, x264 CoreAAC CoreFLAC - lossless CD audio! CoreVorbis AC3 Filter - for DTS/AC3 decoding via software Quicktime Lite Realmedia Lite Everything works unless there is an old oddball animation with outdated codec. Needs a fast cpu for this setup though. 1.8 GHZ C2D or 3GHZ + P4 to run at 1080p YUYV or maybe 24bit output. Don't even try 32bit video output unless the processor is faster or if you have a HW based VC1/AVC/x264 decoder. I get all my codecs from www.free-codecs.com

    A quick question

Out of all of the 1/48 VF-1s released, the Angel Bird is probably the "whitest". It looks milky white, almost a little translucent, like a bottle of Elmer's Glue but dry, instead of wet. The 2nd whitest one that I have is Max's VF-1A. I think its the blue stripes that makes it appear so much whiter. Next is Hikaru's VF-1S, followed by Hikaru and Kakizaki's VF-1A. Roy's VF-1S is a little off white. Hikaru's VF-1J is a slight creme white. I just pulled all of these out of boxes, kepted in the dark about 2 weeks ago so could tell.
  6. You're talking about Yamato Japan, who has said nothing about a re-release IN Japan. I'm talking about guessing local dealers here have posted pinups and preorders for it [ inserts ] HOPING [ / inserts ] someone will release the non-sold leftovers sitting at the factory at a later date. I did not remember seeing the words "limited edition" printed on the sleeve either but someone please correct me if wrong. FACT: Most toys, and stuff in general, are produced with a minimum production run of each part to amortize cost. I can tell you most Chinese printers print ~ 2500-3000 pieces of boxes, manuals, cardboards, etc... at minimum per order regardless of how many toys you make. You can store the boxes, scrap it or add it back to the cost to make up for it. You can put two and two together. --- That still looks great for the level of custom work.
  7. That is correct. It's ~ 1/100 (gundam) to 1/72 Armored Core/Macross scale. One set would be good for posing a single model kit for instance. The included figures are small though. Looks more 1/100 than 1/72 but I don't care. I'm going to use 1/48 figure kits from Hasegawa and Fujimi. The base is 15x15 CM or ~ 6" x 6". The wall is 16 cm or ~ 6.25" tall. Note the 1/60 Zeros are almost the same size as the 1/48s so you really need a minimum of 4 sets to look good (2 x 2 sets). In my shots above, I have 12-16 sets (2 long x 2 tall) for 1/60 to 1/48 hanger dio. I think I have ~ 36 sets now. Can't beat it for ~ 4 bux a set in bulk! If you have 1/15 - 1/20 scaled figures, a few sets makes a great playset (think Star Wars Hoth or GI Joe/Cobra Base).
  8. Thanks for the photoshop ipaq. You can tell Yamato took the 1/48 and improved it when scaling down to 1/60! So many similarities! Still on the fence with the smaller chest, shorter nose and skinnier legs but still looks good in a new refreshing way.
  9. HK = Hong Kong There is a thread in the for sale section from Solscud on his recent run of Hong Kong toy hunting here. If you plan ahead, you can hookup with the HK MW crew such as Graham, Blackaces, Valk009, Valkyrie13 and myself for dinner and group toy hunting! I still remember my first toy run with Graham and others a few years ago!
  10. You should be able to find it from reputable HK dealers. Its no big secret that it will be re-issued again but at a higher cost. The only things I want are the blue slip cover and decal sheets.

    sv-51

2 weeks away from July and knowing Yamato's schedule, that is a pretty close.
  12. Received my kit! Can't believe the size of this thing. The cockpit alone is bigger than a 1/60 VF-1! Finish is great! What kind of resin is this made from? Appears to be very plastic like, more like poly urethane than the typical model resin I've seen from Japanese kits. Great work John! Update: Took the color box out of the brown box and the seams are falling apart. I think the kit is a little heavier than the box can handle but no worries. A little glue will fix that.

The SV-51r Ivanov did get a reissue. The third re-issue is coming in July-ish.
  14. Can someone photoshop the 1/60 so it is 1:1 in size, not scale to the 1/48? And perhaps throw in a Hasegawa / Arii or Imai battroid also? Just to compare proportions. 1/60 looks really good in battroid. Almost like those old Arii/Imai model kits.
  15. It is already mid June! Yamato is always late! Nothing new there. Hope they fix that blue slip cover in the next shipment. Original price via web:
  16. Its over 200 USD to preorder this here. ETA is Sept release. ~225-233 USD OT: The limited edition 1/4 scale Minmay is also available for preorder @ 700 USD! So much for Japan only exclusive. :/
  17. Sorry to bump but wanted to show off my friend's new custom scopedog:
  18. The "dirt" on these appear to be post shading to highlight areas that catch dirt. Agree with you on the design aspects but you can't expect Yamato painter's to be as accurate like Master Cheng, Kurt, Jung, HWR MKII or the other modelers here on MW.
  19. I don't hae the 1/72 Hasegawa kit in front of me so I don't know but you can check Macross Mecha Manual for the dimensions of most Valkyries to scale back down from the official specs. Its amazing how close the Yamato 1/48 Valkyrie is accurately scaled according to the specifications from that website. But I think some of the proportions may have changed to meet the accuracy requirements.
  20. This is what I'm trying to avoid. I was thinking of scaling the entire piece to 1/48 "accurately", then fudge the seats but then the figures would appear to be sitting at the DMV, shoulder to shoulder sharing a chair, instead of comfortably apart per the original picture/drawings! I'll rescale the entire thing to "relative scale" and see how it goes. The good side effect is that it will increase in size slightly so it would be easier to work on!
  21. Actually trying to build up a 3 man interior cockpit in 1/48. I'm using Hasegawa, Fujima, and Yamato's ground crews and pilots to check initial sketch sizes but it was way off! I could barely fit 1 guy in there to my scaled sketch so I'm thinking it must be wrong. Note: I'm going by dimensions given in the original sketches, not from a real sample, so it must be off or my metric math is bad. 1 M = 100 CM right?
  22. I need some advice from sculpting gurus such as the Captain or MLZ I have an item that I want to scratch build for dio purposes. The problem is that when I "accurately scale" the item from 1:1 based on the original measurements to my target, say 1/48, it appears to be smaller than it should be. I just divided by 48. I'm using a ground crew set and the fighter pilots to compare relative scale to actual scale. I calculated if I had to size back up to "relative scale" it would end up ~ 1/43 but looks "scaled" to the rest of the items. So what would you guys do in such instances? Keep accurate scale or relative scale? If I fudge parts of it, it would be out of scale proportionally to the rest of the item.

    VF-OS or VF-0A

That's just a rumor. There is no confirmation on the 0D yet but I am also waiting! Have a shelf waiting for more Macross Zero from Yamato! Maybe we need a new poll for Yamato to start production on the 0D - both Shin's blue color and the CF low vis grey variant.

15 bux? Its cheaper than buying recasts shoulder and elbow joints per arm right?
