  1. Seeing Gladiator serving Deathbird got me interested right away since last we saw Deathbird, her coup to take the throne from Lilandra failed. EDIT: This takes me back to the height of Game of Thrones, but first thing I see when I go to YouTube was a video with a spoiler for today's episode in the title. 🤦‍♂️
  2. For what it's worth, back in 1998, I could walk around malls in the Philippines and buy a bunch of Macross model kits. That same year, I went to book stores in Korea and bought a bunch of Macross art books. I've been to both countries quite a few times in the past 5 years and I pretty don't see anything Macross, but Gundam stuff can be found everywhere.
  3. Maybe the real issue is just that I'm 30 years older, but I feel like when the Fox Kids X-Men first aired, it was unapologetically for kids, like Baby's First X-Men stories. The release of X-Men 97 came with so much fanfare that comes with anything Marvel Studios releases that I kind of expected the show to be written with a bit more depth than what the actual product is. Guess I just came in with unrealistic expectations. BTW, I tend to prefer the Marvel and DC cartoons that are primarily targeted for kids. Maybe it's just a coincidence?
  4. Wonder if they'll bother making him look like the the Watchers in GotG2.
  5. Agreed. Watching episode 3 was like watching a 30-minute, condensed episode on YouTube that highlights on certain parts of a TV series. I also am not really a big fan of the idea of resurrecting an old TV show, but one good thing is that we don't have to see another take on the Dark Phoenix Saga. For that reason alone I'm okay with (sort of) picking up where the original show left off. I just don't have faith that anyone can tell a new X-Men story for other media that didn't touch on Dark Phoenix, just like DC keeps going back to Doomsday and the Death of Superman.
  6. I can't say I blame BW. I'm one of those people who feels like paying HG to cooperate is like paying that hacker to deactivate the ransomware on my computer...
  7. I watched only some of S5, and the ones I watched had decent storytelling relative to the rest of the season*. It's just the look of the show went downhill when they changed animation studios. Reading some audience reviews of S5, apparently they have a lot of bottle episodes, too. *Meant to say rest of the series, not season.
  8. Super duper nitpick here, but I'm still disappointed they titled the show '97 instead of '92 or something else. I guess it makes sense that they would name it after the year where it picked off. But typically, if one year had to be assigned to the show, it's the show's debut year, which is what DC Comics did with its Batman '66 comics or the TMNT 1987 moniker. I know I'm overthinking it, but when I think of Fox Kids's X-Men, the last year of its original run I want to think of is '97, when the production quality was at its worst and the show's relevance was at its nadir. I suppose '66 and '97 might've been picked for sounding better...
  9. I'm a sucker for home, Nintendo console (funny that we should specify this, hahaha...) Zelda games, but I'm not really looking forward to this movie. I liked the 15-minute cartoon from 1990 or so, but I was also a kid back then. Assuming they actually go through with this, my big wish would be that the story was more or less ALttP or OoT. Those I feel are the foundation for Zelda lore, and if I have any nitpicks on the BotW era, it's that we've gotten a bit away from some core Zelda concepts such as the Triforce.
  10. I think if you look back at the last 50 years or so, they have periods of hits and misses. If they keep pumping out content while also hiring creative minds, they'll get more successful hits. The problem last year seems to be one of creative bankruptcy, pumping out algorithm-driven stories that leaned hard on known IPs, and pandering to select audiences. They'll adapt.
  11. IGN gave Afterlife a 9/10. Independent reviews are pretty hard to find these days; it seems like if they aren't sucking up to studios for access, they're overly concerned about ideologies. But this might just be one of those honest opinions.
  12. I see this as one step in the right direction. More access to Macross is a good thing, but want to see what strings are attached.
  13. I think MotU was about it. After Barbie became an instant hit, there were articles coming out about a planned Mattel Cinematic Universe.
  14. I went to a work lunch and saw commercials for this on TV. Been a while since I watched a new anime series so I forgot about how often the 'M' was turned into a 'W.' That said, I only patronize Macrossnald's.
  15. What I've been telling people about Barbie is that when you look at movie franchises like Fast and the Furious or Transformers, it's only fair that the ladies get their big, dumb movie, too. 😅 I just wish the lesson Mattel learned wasn't "Hey, let's make movies about all of our toys now!"
  16. RIP. Kind of surprised to hear he was only 68; in my head, he was a lot older. Guess it speaks to how influential he was.
