Space Station seen in eps. #39 of Robotech

Ok....

while doing a search for something else....I damn near shocked myself when I noticed what I had long assumed was a satellite at the beginning of eps. #39 Southern Cross of Robotech ( eps. #2 Make Up of Southern Cross). One of the goofy things about the dialogue in the first two episodes refers to Space Station Liberty in many cases...though this particular vessel cannot be Liberty in Robotech because it has obviously suffered catastrophic hull failure (the top half and bottom half are separated....and battle damaged).

Anyway....to get back to the topic....is there anyone else that thinks this particular vessel (of they can watch the eps. in question) is on an order of kilometers in size? We see a number of the city-ships in the background near the station....but that doesnt give a good estimate of its size. I guessed it was about 12km in diameter at its widest point.....but I could revise this.

Also...if someone could post a few screen caps...all I have access to is the sketch of said station from This is Animation Special #10 (THANK YOU ONCE AGAIN SEICHI!).

Either way, it's still a HUGE station if it's in scale with the moon like that.

Personally, I'd doubt it was that size. In Robotech, humanity's resources were stretched thin enough as it was in the Second Generation that I doubt they could afford to spend the material and time building something that large.

That line of reasoning has never made sense to me. The absolute MOUNTAIN of materiel left over from the end of the 1st Robotech War couldnt be gone through in a hundred lifetimes. The remains of about 4 million Zentraedi warships...even if you could only salvage 1% of that..... as well as all the supplies aboard the Factory Satellite would have sustained the UEF and UEG for years on end. If the city of Denver in the Macross era can have a REFLEX FURNACE to power its city...doesn't that show that the availability of protoculture was in abundance?

Also....its not like the system is socialistic or communistic as far as we can tell. The military-industrial complex still rules the roost for defense contracts and its not like the UEG can't run a deficit if it wants.

Besides....I would imagine that there would be millions of people willing to learn Zero-G Construction in exchange for 3 hots and a cot. Sure the job is dangerous...but safer than staying Earthside and getting gutted like a fish by some gangbangers who decided that they wanted your ration coupons. You also get to learn a trade which is in great demand.

another thing to consider (without this thread going rouge and turning into a rt vs macross debate) is what you see in the southern cross saga is really a whole differant tv show from the macross saga . so all of those zentraedi ships never existed.

no doubt, so you can say whatever you want, like the Zentradi felt bad they destroyed the planet,

so they built this nice spaceship to live on while rebuilding earth

Unlikely.

Alot of them were probably converted into colony ships while the rest were mothballed on moons in various star systems....that way they are close enough to be useable...but hidden from enemies who might refurbish them and use them against the UEF.

Anyway...back to the topic at hand.

Ah...finally got a screen cap of this...thanks to Rob Morgenstern. He and dont agree on what this vessel is (I still maintain that its a space station while he believes its a satellite)....but no one is perfect.

Anyway...here is the screen cap from eps. #2 Make Up.

BTW...anyone else notice what looks like doors in the line sketch where the numerals 25 are?
