Ginrai Posted November 10, 2008 Posted November 10, 2008 We have a new podcast up! It is about Urusei Yatsura movie 1, Only You, with special guest hostess, Viga the Otagal! http://www.destroyallpodcastsdx.com If you are trying to figure out why we reviewed a movie about a girl in a tiger striped bikini, it's kind of a space opera and it's kind of directed by MAMORU OSHII.

Kids, if you're wondering what "Urusei Yatsura" is, ask your parents. DARLING!
Ginrai Posted November 10, 2008 Author Posted November 10, 2008 To be fair, this movie came out a year after SDF Macross TV did.
Beltane70 Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 You're off by a little bit there, Ginrai. Only You came out while Macross TV was only about half way into its run.
Ginrai Posted November 11, 2008 Author Posted November 11, 2008 Okay, whatever, Macross started in 1982 and this movie came out in 1983.
F-ZeroOne Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 (edited) I just find it scary these days that theres all these young whipper-snappers into their "Nar-u-toes" and "Depressions of Ha-ru-hoo" who might not know the significance of tiger-stripe bikinis. The first movie is pretty much a UY TV episode writ large, but my favourite UY movie is "Remember My Love". We were born to be free, kids! Edited November 11, 2008 by F-ZeroOne

I've only watched the movies directed by Mamoru Oshii.
F-ZeroOne Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 Its worth it - the ending is a bit of a deus ex machina, but its otherwise pretty good all the way through. Still has one of my favourite anime chase scenes, one that ends in a Hall of Mirrors...
