Macross Zero Question

Also, here's another question about Macross Zero: Where in the Macross timeline does all this occur? The first two OVA episodes that I downloaded didn't have sound, but were subbed, so I kind got the gist, but I still don't know enough about the series as a whole to grasp when all this Mayan Island Bird People stuff is happening. Could someone fill me in? That main website is encrypted; I can't get it to show me some good ol' ENGLISH characters.

It supposed to have happened just after the Macross crash landed into Earth and prior to when Macross the TV series came out. Specifically, the year 2008.

You don't need to know about the whole Macross series to watch M0. M0 pretty much explains the ASS-1 thingy to get you started. It's not a requirement that you watch all Macross series to understand M0. Watching all of Macross is just a...helpful tool. Kawamori has thrown in in-jokes from Arjuna so you don't need to watch all of Macross to understand M0.
