Try searching around. A lot of people have found wmcheng's step by step build ups quite helpful.

Go to a lot of modeling sites such as:

http://www.aircraftresourcecenter.com/

and I am sure there are lots more and read the build ups/features. All the techniques used there can be applied to Valks.

Two paint finishes are vital to know. Try looking on the web for 'dry-brushing' and 'washing' (no, that doesn't make it clean ).
