  1. "In the sci-fi thriller, opening on October 4, Dr. Ryan Stone (Sandra Bullock) is a brilliant medical engineer on her first shuttle mission, with veteran astronaut Matt Kowalsky (George Clooney) in command of his last flight before retiring. But on a seemingly routine spacewalk, disaster strikes. The shuttle is destroyed, leaving Stone and Kowalsky completely alone--tethered to nothing but each other and spiraling out into the blackness. The deafening silence tells them they have lost any link to Earth...and any chance for rescue. As fear turns to panic, every gulp of air eats away at what little oxygen is left. But the only way home may be to go further out into the terrifying expanse of space."

  2. you two have terrible taste and Moon was an astoundingly boring movie. Just saying.

Uh... I don't know, do we?

I like Macross, does it count towards terrible tastes? ^_^

    @Eugimon

I'm ve never said Oblivion is a copy&paste of Moon, someone here pointed out they had some similarities and since I heard about Moon but had never seen it before yesterday, I thought it was a good time to do it.

They have similarities, true, but Oblivion is not a remake of Moon with more money. They are just two different beasts. Thus said, and simply put, Moon is a movie, Oblivion is... a rather extended videoclip with occasionally good designs.

PS: I also thought Oblivion had a strong Mass Effect vibe in some things

  3. I don't like this movie at all... I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. In contrast, Moon (2008) is much better movie, in terms of design, music, style, flow, camera angles, and list goes on and on.

I agree. Saw Moon yesterday after reading here how much Oblivion got influenced by it. Moon IS a sci-fi movie, Oblivion just an hollow toy.

  4. Well, I went to see it yesterday with no expectations and mixed reviews from my friends. For me it was a waste of money (and good designs - nice Mospeada vibe in some background, by the way).

Basically a long videoclip - damn music! - of Tom Cruise: half the movie is just close ups of Tom's face...

The movie has more plotholes than I care to remember and dialogues so cheesy I was tempted to ask a refund. I don't even want to touch the subject of predictability, but I dare say it is on par with Solomon Kane (oww...).

I guess I'm just not in line with this director, as I thought also Tron legacy was mediocrity made film (boring beyond limits, except for visuals and music, thanks to Daft Punk).

  5. Now, I had my suspicions before, but now I am 100% convinced that the CG VF-19kai that appears in the animation is a tweaked CAD model of the Yamato VF19

mold. There is no denying it, the joints, the seams, the proportions, etc.

Uh, I must have blinked and I missed it: at what time does it appear?

  6. 1983. I saw one of the takatoku transforming valkiryes (a VF1S) in a toy shop but couldn't afford it, then at some neighbour holiday market I found a smaller version of it and my grandfather bought it to me (back at the time here in Italy sellers imported many toys from Japan even if the shows they were in weren't being aired by our tv networks). There was some engrish crap on one side, but the Macross logo was clearly there, and the VF1J battroid image on the side got into my veins. Then came other Macross toys and some years later, in 1985, Robotech. But that's another story. Oww, now I feel old!

  7. The setting kinda reminds me of a reverse UC gundam except the rich elite are on the colonies, and the poor are on earth.

Still... with technology that advanced to build a space station that big with a fully enclosed enviroment, and can apparently cure cancer via body scan, what's keeping people from colonizing Mars for example? Truth is when I saw the "from the creator of District 9" my eyes kinda rolled and I thought here it comes another South Africa apartied allegory.

You didn't like the best sci-fi movie since Blade Runner? Pity.
