  1. Bonus X-Wing Question:  What are "Uglies"?  (5 Points)

aren't those fighters that are cobbled together from spare parts from many different fighters??

    Yeah, mainly pirate-fighters

I like X-Wing Alliance as well.

Uglies were TF ball cockpit mated to the X-wing's s-foils if I remember. The Twi'leks were using them in X-Wing Book 4: The Bacta War.

  2. yeah... the space shooter has died out... and I never noticed.

I still play Xwing vs Tie Fighter. Its a great game, especially with Balance of Power.

Man do I miss Tie Fighter though. Did anybody remember when you first got the Defender of the Empire? L33T!!!!!!!!!!!! All you could think was HOW DID THE EMPIRE LOSE WITH A FIGHTER LIKE THIS????? I don't care about the force, you couldn't dodge the bloody thing. And that wasn't the end of it... not by the long shot... then the Greatest feeling of all... (after you cleaned up the warm feeling in your pants... )

    The Missile Boat.

50 Advanced Concussion missiles. Man I don't know if the Rebel fleet had 50 A-wings total to be hit by the missile boat. It was the evilest piece of machinery ever (brought to you by the manufacturors of the Death Star and the evil looking lighting from the emperor's hand)

anyway its one of my favorite child hood games, and I can't play it anymore. HAs anybody figured out how to make it work on modern machines?

Well supposedly, since the TDs and Missile Boats were advanced designs but came too late into the Rebellion. Gotta remember that the Admiral that went rogue in TF took the advance facilities that made those advance fighters. Once the Empire took back control, the production did not go into full swing due to damage to those facilities. Had that not happen, there would have been T/As, M/B, and T/Ds at Endor.

But you gotta remember, TIE pilots were given low survivabilty. You had huge numbers to overwhelm your opponent whereas the Alliance/Rebellion were training their pilots to fight those odds. Even if the Empire had the T/As, most of those pilot were cannon fodder regardless. Sure technology would have given them more advantage but their pilot training was a lot to be desired...

Also, T/Fs, T/Bs, and T/Is were cheaper fast to manufacture.

As for XvT, I loved that game. I loved all the those series up till XWA. I hated the new HUD system. XvT toned down the shields on fighters that did have them and started factoring in more that Turbolasers were more powerful that regular lasers. So it wasn't easier unlike X-Wing whereas you can take out the stardestroyer.

  3. I cannot justify getting 2 OPs... well I can  but, I will not absolutely get the hasbro one even though they are cheaper. I saw my friends reissue of OP at TRU and I was disappointed because of the shortened stacks. I broke down and ordered the New Year's OP with the matrix from Takara and it was simply awesome. I do not want to get it where I will be simply disappointed with Hasbro's version.

Yes, I should be happy that Hasbro reissued the toy but the Takara version are a lot better to me. Hasbro has been a complete let down to me time and time again, and I for one will not support them. I rather get the takara versions of the g1 reissues than getting the hasbro reissues. The cover is a lot cooler looking than hasbro as well.

It seems to me that the Japanese picks up the slack in quality again. They did it in cars and now in toys.

Goes with the HG MPCs vs Yamato's 1/60 and 1/48. I have buyer's remorse on getting the MPCs and will not buy the Alphas unless they are cheap (which I will be on ebay looking for them.) Also I have sold my extras MPCs at a loss (sort of. I paid the Hunter VF-1J full price and never did afterewards.) Yes I know that the MPCs are made in China but so what? Looking at companies like HG vs Yamato and Takara vs Hasbro, you can see who made the correct decisions and better quality.

  4. I havent really seen this anime but curious tto see what the hell it is all about. Anybody can give me a synopsis? I was looking thru the anime section at Fry's. Sheesh, I didn't know there was a lot of anime for age 16 and over either... Of course there were the NC-17 ones...

  5. We play together all the time....build models together, baseball, Power Rangers the works.

As for letting him go to school dressed that way....it would be the end. He gets teased enough fro not looking "Japanese".

I have just realized it's all my fault (sobs). he just came into my office and asked again. Of course I said "No". Then he replied..."But you have the pink, green and Blue haired lady all over your osfice." :o (Mylene Jenius, Millia, and Minmay).

The wife at this point has burst into laughter so hard that tears are rolling down her face. The only thing she says "He got you." :(

    Rob

    Buddy,

Your son is pretty smart with that comment. :D And he is only 4!! :) He got you but good. I think dolls are fine. Customes is one thing... dolls are another. I mean what are valks?? Technically, I wouldn't worry too much. With a smart comeback he came up with, I would be damn proud, yet feeling trapped. I am sure he will be smart enough to grow out of that.

Then again, I am not married nor have kids. B)) I mean why should you listen to me? I am just the geek with 5 low vis valks. ;) And waiting for your items... Damn USPS.

  6. Frankly, I love the VF-1 design. The thing is that I like buying alot of the cool ones I like. I plan on making some dioramas or build a Prometheous deck. I like to build a 1/48 SDF-1 for my 1/48s yammies but that will be a bitch to work on. And also, I suck at painting and scuplting. maybe I will just build the Armour series ships.

  7. 1. I dont think they will make any more low vis. It is a LIMITED EDITION

    2. You will not be able to get a low vis lower than $150 plus shipping hence the market for it goes with the economic law of supply which determines price. Hence here, demand for for low vis is high and supply available for retail is now low which gives you a high price for it.

Well, I got mine on average for $130 and I own 5 of them! :D

  8. Gee with all that Technology, you would figure you give the Destroids more armor for survivabilty. I mean look at the M1 Tank... it can survive many hits from other tank shells unless you are close to it. Even at that close, the M1 tanks does survive. I read that in Armored Cav by Tom Clancy in the Gulf War 1, where a T-72 was at less that 800m (I think that was the distance) with a disable M1 (stuck in the mud). The T-72 fired an AP round. It only grooved the armor of the M1. Seeing it was futile, the T-72 hid behind a berm only to be destoyed when the M1's 120mm AP round went thru the berm and it! Of course if you attacked it in the rear, you are dead anyways.

The point is that, by that time, the UN Defense Research is looking at all avenues to have the pilot survive since you spend that amount of $$$ on training based on the lessons learned in Space War I. A pilot is a pilot whether it is a VF or a destroid. That still requires a large degree of training. In real life we focused on getting our pilots and crews survivabilty so they can fight another day despite the equipment loss. And they too can be used as trainer for the next gen as well.

I know it is hard to develop that kind of armor for a variable transforming fighter. I mean, OMG, you have to cover all the joints, hydraulics, etc when the fighter transform. Does it mean will we ever see a variable fighter in a combo A-10/F-14 design where it is ugly, slow, armored, survivable, and kicks some major butt? Who knows... (hmmm I see custom... :D ) But I can definitely see a bad-@$$ destroid that you shoot the hell out it and it can still shoot back at you with a larger caliber gun that will wipe you off  the face the planet! A destroid that has a combination of Lasers and ammunition type weapons would be the way to go as well. By that time, I would think that a power suppy that is capable of providing enough energy for your particle/laser weapons would be small enough to fit in a destroid. Hell, I would also assume the ammo type weapons would be like rail guns.

Regardless, I was disappointed by this in the Macross series. (I never seen M7 so I dunno what to tell you there.) I mean, this by all practicality was like WW2. Casualities were high as Allies moved forward towards Germany and even worse in the Pacific. Talk about your CFs there! Ok, I know that Earth never fought an invading Alien race but still after the first encounter, our research would be able to help the survivablity of the pilots and crews...

Anyways, I did see Destroids in Macross II Lovers Again., however.

  9. Looks like this has just been released in Japan & H.K.........

                                      VF-1S Hikaru

.....since I don't have the VF-1A Hikaru, it's very hard to resist the temptation....

    Welll,

That's one I will have to let pass bye.

    Looks good though

Me too. I can't wait for the VF-1Js.

  10. Well, I am not sure to preorder since I am seeing Optimus Prime looking like all battle damaged. Anybody preorder him? What is the price you preordered him? I am seeing high as $99 and low as $85.99. I hate to not preorder him and then be sold out when I want it though... anybody seen better prices than the ones I stated?

  11. I covered my picks for most likely releases in here. I stand by them. I think Yamato will milk the 1/48 VF-1 line before they do anything else other than the 1/60 Zentradi stuff and maybe some destroids in 1/60 or 1/48.

Agreed. I think Yamato will milk as much of the 1/48 VF-1 line as much as possible. With that said, I cant wait for the 1/48 Max and Milla with the fast packs. :D
