Like most of you, I've generally dismissed 3D movies as being a gimmick, and like Roger Ebert, I've been skeptical of seeing it used in a "serious" movie.
However, the other day I thought of Christopher Nolan's "Memento" and recalled that the story worked only because of its "gimmick" of being a backwards movie. It would be interesting to see if somebody can find a clever use of 3D film technology to tell a story that couldn't exist or work well without it. Of course, if that movie doesn't innovate cinematic storytelling, or at least result in further inventive uses, then 3D will continue to be an unnecessary addition to movies.

Yup, read about it too. But as far as I understand it's been licensed for cinema release with no mention of a blu ray release, right?
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2010-...haruhi-suzumiya
End of first paragraph: "Bang Zoom! Entertainment is co-producing the English-language adaptation, and a DVD release will ship at a date to be announced later."
So while there's no mention of Blu-ray specifically, there will be at least a DVD release.

Over the weekend, my brother picked up Heavy Rain for the PS3. So far, it's received a lot of high ratings from various gaming magazines. Looking at it, I keep thinking it's like Shenmue, only better. Why?
1. Unlike in Shenmue, you don't go out looking for sailors.
2. And unlike in Shenmue, there's a female shower scene.
Anyone here played this game yet?
Started playing on Tuesday (got it from Amazon on Monday and wanted to wait out the PS3 leap year fiasco). I'm enjoying it so far, even though I suck at QTE events and I did run into one of the hanging glitches noted by other players. If anyone is unsure whether to get it or not, try the demo since (at least, so far) it's very representative of the full game (sans nudity )

And here we go, the 10th novel ariving shortly in late april. Nothing to soon, as we need more content for future Haruhi anime.
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2010-...-in-the-sneaker
Aren't they talking about just the preview being published in The Sneaker on Apr. 30, not the full novel (at least from what I can read in the article's accompanying picture)?

Hattori Hanzo?! As in Kill Bill? So that's where Tarantino ripped that off from...what a hack.
Actually, Hattori Hanzo was a historical figure, played by Sonny Chiba in a series that Tarantino watched during the '80s on a local L.A. TV station: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hattori_Hanz%...popular_culture
But getting back on topic, yeah, the NEO-GEO AES was one system I wished I could afford back in the day. I still love the slightly Engrish narration during the title sequence for 'Nam '76: "Do I have to go back to the Hell again?"

I haven't read any interviews, but I always interpreted the two Minmays as metaphor to represent Minmay bidding her old self/life farewell and moving on with the Megaroad.
This was always my interpretation, especially if you take the first chorus of "Angel's Paints" into account (apologies for my rough translation):
Kanashii dekigoto ga
BURUU ni someta kokoro mo
Tenshi no en no gu de nurikaeru yo
Omoi no mama ni
"With angel's paints I'll paint over
as I please
even my heart dyed blue
by sad events"

Although they didn't make me cry, I'm sure I would've if I had seen these Futurama episodes for the first time under different circumstances:
- "Luck of the Fryrsh": when Fry learns the truth behind his brother "stealing" his name and his lucky clover
- "Jurassic Bark": Hachiko-esque ending. 'Nuff said.

For all us Canadians, showtimes for Evangelion 1.0 are up at Cineplex.com
"Presented in High Definition"? Is it being distributed and shown digitally instead of on film?
Edit: They're also showing it at Empire Theatres in Canada: http://www.empiretheatres.com/evangelion

Hmm, out of curiosity, how novel accurate was the newest episode? For some reason that level of power display just didn't feel right to me.
I was watching Episode 00 again last night, and was wondering where they found blooming sakura that late in the year, but now I know

I think it was the summer of '95. A friend came back from Hong Kong with the Japanese LDs of parts 1 and 2. We got a kick out of the retconning from the "Macross: A Future Chronicle" featurette: <in narrator's voice> "2032: Space War I made into a movie... 'Do You Remember Love?'"

How about Atari's blunder of backing out of the deal to distribute the Nintendo Famicom outside Japan?

Consider this a rumor for now, but: Sarah Connor Chronicles to Continue Late 2010
This is from the same person who earlier this year said this was its last season, a couple of months before Fox confirmed it wasn't getting renewed for next season.

Is eight in reference to the list of things to do?
In one of the iterations, there were 15 things listed, so I don't think so. I think it's a reference to August (the eighth month, or 八月). Also, the Arabic eight ( looks like the infinity symbol (∞) turned on its side.

Had Endless 8 ended yet? Is it safe to continue Haruhi s2 yet?
Not yet

query: In the subs that Yuki uses, Haruhi keeps refering to the manager of the store that wear the frog suits at as "my man". Is this an accurate translation?
To me, it sounded like she was calling the manager "occhan", which I think is the male equivalent of "obachan", so maybe "gramps" would've been a better translation. Of course, if somebody who's better at Japanese knows differently, please feel free to correct me.

... I can't believe it. I just screamed "Say anything!" to the screen.
Kyon: Haruhi! Uh... badger eloquent resuscitate fondly!
Haruhi: What?

As long as it's not all dark and brooding like the first one, also all the characters should be teens, with Hannah Montanna in the lead, it could be a musical!
Zac Efron: (singing) All these moments will be lost in time...
Chorus: (singing) Lost in time!
Everybody: (singing) ... like teeeaaarrrrs in the raaaaiiiiinnnnnnn!
