  1. David E. Kelly? But... she's not a lawyer... :p

Although I think he's a good TV writer (Picket Fences, minus its final season when he wasn't around, is still one of my favorite shows), I don't know if he's a good fit for a superhero show.

And as A7 pointed out, it would need a 20-something Lynda Carter :)

  2. I've been considering applying to Tokyo University for an MS degree, but I am hesitant to leave my country. I was wondering if anyone had experience they would like to share, especially experience as students in Japanese universities.

Also, I am very interested in what healthcare is available.

I dont know if this was the right place to ask, but it seems there are quite a few residents of Japan here, so I thought I might as well ask.

Just curious why you want to get your Master's at Tokyo University? Are you studying in a field that they're a leader in, or do you just want to try living in a different culture?

  3. Issue 6 cover is up on Amazon:

    http://www.amazon.co.jp/gp/product/B0042FYEMO/ref=ord_cart_shr?ie=UTF8&m=AN1VRQENFRJN5

    Arghh!! It's tainted!! Gaargh! :p

This is to Sketchley and the others living in Japan: how quickly do issues of Macross Ace and Macross the First sell out there? I'll be over there in a couple of weeks, so I'm thinking of waiting until I'm there to pick those up, instead of pre-ordering it through Amazon and guaranteeing myself a copy.

  4. I still am not quite sure what it is he said!

(Betania Base) Commander: Defend the Limbo Area at all costs! We cannot allow it to escape from Acheron!

Kaji: Blah-blah-blah... blah-blah. Blah-blah! (waves goodbye and leaves CIC)

Commander: (turns to Sub-commander) What did he say?

Sub-commander: Uh, I don't know, sir. I thought you were the one who understood him.

Commander: Me? I don't care what it says on his service record, not a thing has come out of his mouth that I recognize as any word in any language officially or unofficially spoken on this base. (turns to his staff) Has anyone here understood anything Inspector Kaji's said since he arrived here?

(Everybody looks blankly at each other)

Commander: Well, damn it, why did they send him here in the first place?!

    (Ten minutes earlier...)

Guard: Sir? Excuse me, sir, what are you doing? That's the Key of Nebuchadnezzar, it's never supposed to leave this room.

    Kaji: (smiling) Blah-blah-blah... blah-blah! :) (walks away)

Guard: Uhh... yeah, okay. Please bring it back right away when you're done with it, sir, okay?

  5. That's a simpler one actually. In Japan, school uniforms are seasonal.

Do seasons still exist in EVA? ;)

Actually, that occurred to me, too, but IIRC, seasonal uniforms at a particular school, even though they're designed for different types of weather, usually share some sort of design similarity, so that you can easily identify them as belonging to that school. Even if it is indeed their school's winter uniform, does that mean part of the third movie takes place weeks or months before/after the second movie?

  6. This one's been bothering me since I first saw the preview trailer for the third Rebuild movie:

    4955297245_416903783b.jpg

The one on the left is, of course, AU (Alternate Universe) Ayanami from the last EVA TV episode, and the one on the right is from the trailer. Why would the one on the right be wearing AU Ayanami's uniform? Is it another clue that something fishy is going on with reality in the EVA universe? Or is it simply a red herring for people like myself who have nothing better to do than to frame advance obsessively through trailers? :)

  7. There has been no mention of English subtitles yet, but Amazon.jp has an exclusive steelbox edition of Disappearance up for pre-order if anyone's interested.

CD Japan says it doesn't have subtitles, and the other Japanese websites I googled using the product code (KAXA-2101) don't mention subtitles one way or the other :( I was hoping that Bandai would release the North American version this fall, in time for the novel's release. Oh well, at least we'll have non-cam-rip fansubs waiting for us by the end of the year :)

  8. Think about it, every other time we see him, he's being chauffeured in private cars, jets, the whole nine yards. But a guy who is worth billions, who has taken the time to get dream security training, is going to ride in the cheapest seats with no security detail? It doesn't add up. It's not a huge thing but it's just one more sign that points to things not being so simple.

Wasn't Saito intentionally baiting himself, to find someone skilled enough to pull off inception? He said to Cobb (IIRC, in one of the dream levels where Cobb was trying to steal Saito's secrets) that this was his audition.

  9. But there's a reason

they are trying to infiltrate that section of the dream and the best way is to not stand out, so you have to look like someone else. His subconcious turned on them, but in the end if that hadn't happened it wouldve allowed them to get in seamlessly and do the job with no complications.

Yeah, I understand the rationale behind it, but as one of the characters said, "Why couldn't this have been a beach?", or something to that effect :)

  10. An English subtitled version is out now in Hong Kong.

    http://www.imdb.com/news/ni2540716/

When should we expect the official US release? I assume they will do an English dubbed release in the US, so I wonder how long that normally takes from the time the Japanese DVD release occurred on May 26th.

I couldn't wait for the US release, so I bought the HK one. It looks great, and the English subs are ok i.e. no Engrish (actually, it's almost word-for-word the same as the ones included with a torrent from late May).

  11. #3 came out in november, #4 in march 2010 and isn't #5 supposed to come out tomorrow? Maybe we are going to get 4 issues per year instead of 3 (once every 3 months instead of one every 4 months - beware, this is just my speculation).

I don't have issue 4 at hand right now, but I recall that along the top edge of the cover it said it was coming out quarterly this year.

  12. So you're saying people will either love it, or hate it, or be somewhere in the middle? That's a bold prediction. (Just teasing).

I like to hedge my bets :)

Now that I think about it, I would probably rent it on DVD or Blu-ray if it came with good special features about the creature FX, which were very impressive.

    The funniest bit was

the Fred and Ginger presentation when Ginger turned into a male and the two ripped each other apart and exploded out of the glass case splattering the audience.

For me and and audience I saw it with, it was the scene immediately after that, where the characters were in the conference room in awkward silence, until "Well... that could've went a lot better," or whatever David Hewlett's character said :D

  13. I saw it on the weekend. I think this is one of those movies, like "Fight Club", that you'll either love or hate. I'm sort of in the middle, where I'm satisfied with what I saw but I'm not interested in watching it again.
