Sheryl because she can be both fun and serious. Plus she knows what she wants and doesn't need someone else to get it for her
-
It's probably her writing medium of choice. Which begs the question, where are the other panties which she's written her older songs on? Furthermore, what happened to the giant panties after Ranka's song?
Edit: Judging from the OST list here, maybe she's writing the "Big Boys" song.
I figured she just had the shop deliver it after she finished writing. It's kinda big for her to lug around, or more likely, she would force Alto to carry it around
-
One small correction, I had Sheryl saying, "even though I've never seen her face" on p22 which might give the wrong impression. So I changed it to "even though I don't know what she looks like," which is actually closer to the Japanese.
-
I just added the rest of the translations.
-
I've updated the translation up to p28, but don't have time to finish it this morning. Will get to it this afternoon.
Page 39.The Dekarucya Frontier page is back!
I wish somebody would translate these.
That's the end of chapter 5.
Chapter 6 will be out on May 26th.
Graham
I can do it when I have time if no one else wants to.
-
I edited the translation post to reflect the new pages.
-
Here's the translation for the scanned pages. As always I'll try to translate them as Graham scans them and update this post as I progress.

Alto: Come on then...Vajura Bastards!
p1
Scout: Please give me your daughter.
Ozma: Huh? What'd you just say?
Scout: As I said, would you give Ranka-san-- to me to guide!!
p2
Scout: I want everyone to know! I want them to know the miracle created by song during that horrible first interstellar war!
There is also the fact that Ranka-san has the power to convey love! I came to believe that during the Miss Macross
pageant! Therefore, I beg of you!
Nanase: --In
p3
Nanase: That's incredible! Doesn't that mean that you've been scouted?! I knew you could do it, Ranka-san!
Luca: This means that you're a real idol now.
Alto: I've never heard of this "Vector Promotions" though.
p4
Nanase: Why did you have to rain on our parade!! That's so cold, Alto-kun!!
Michel: So cold-blooded.
Luca: An-anyway, let's celebrate. Because Ozma-taichou actually allowed this!
Michel: That's true...did he get hit with a "micro missile" or something?
Box: Acknowledgement...
Alto: It's not like I wanted to do the performance!
p5
Alto: I want to decide how to live my own life! If you won't let me do that then I want nothing to do with this family---
Alto: You should just ignore what parents say. It's not like they'd understand anyway.
Luca: It must have been tough to convince Ozma-taichou though, right?
Ranka: Nope...I didn't have to convince him.
p6
Ozma: Please take care of my little sister.
Ranka: Huh...? It's OK? Really?
Ozma: Men don't go back on their word. Anyways, you're fifteen so you'll be an adult next year. I can't be so
overprotective forever, right?
Ranka: Onichan.
p7
Ozma: Still, I'm not saying that you can do whatever you want. If something strange happens, I'll make you stop
immediately!
Scout: This is great Ranka-san!
Ozma: Idiot, don't cry.
Ranka: Thanks Onichan.
p8
Ranka: I really thought that he would be against this.
Michel: I'll cheer you on, Ranka-chan. I guess I'm your first fan.
Nanase: I'm first.
Michel: The...then I'll be second...
Luca: I...I'm third!
Nanase, Ranka, Luca: [staring sound effect]
p9
Alto: I get it. All I have to do is cheer her on right?
Nanase: Well then, I hereby declare this the formation of the Ranka Fanclub.
?: Yeeesss!!
p10
Sheryl: I'll leave the rest of fine tuning to you then!
Grace: Good work. You're really enthusiastic, Sheryl.
Sheryl: Grace. Of course, this is the final concert on Frontier.
Grace: Is that the only reason?
p11
Sheryl: What?
Grace: Nothing, it's just that I thought you were infatuated with that boy.
Sheryl: Wha-!! Whaaaatt!! What are you saying, Grace!?
Grace: My. Am I mistaken? It's strange since I felt that was definitely the reason.
Sheryl: Grace... Where did you get that notion from?
p12
Grace: Because this is the first time that you've ever skipped out on work.
Sheryl: Ah...she's mad...
Grace: First you disappeared just before a live broadcast only to be found in a shelter. Then you caused trouble by sneaking
into a school--
Sheryl: Got it! I got it! I won't do it anymore! Gr...Grace?
p13
Grace: Sorry, I just received a message. Yes...what?
Sheryl: What...who is it from?
Grace: Sheryl...Galaxy has been!!
Nanase: This definitely suits you!
p13
Nanase: How is it? This is an outfit for you, Ranka-san.
Michel: No no...it should expose more.
Luca: Is there something wrong with Nanase-san's sketch!?
Michel: That's not it...she just needs to show more skin.
Nanase: Ranka-san has no need to expose herself!
Luca: Nanase-san is right!
Alto: They sure are into it...
Ranka: But I'm really happy to have support. Just knowing that there are people who acknowledge me lets me try harder.
p14
Box: I see...so this is her strength...
Box: Thinking only of singing and aiming straight at where they are heading
Box: I'm a little envious of
Box: that type of conviction.
p15
Alto: Well then, do your best to dethrone Sheryl.
Ranka: What!? Dethrone Sheryl-san? Alto-kun, thats---
Announcement: We interupt this program to bring you an emergency statement from the President of the Frontier
government.
Michel: What...?
p16
President: Citizens of Frontier, I am Howard Glass. Today I bring you very grave news. Please look at this first--These are
images of Macross Galaxy being attacked by mysterious space beings called "Vajura". This threat is also coming closer to
Frontier.
Nanase: Those are...from before...
President: Therefore, for the sake of saving Galaxy and for our own sake---
p17
President: By my authority as President---I declare a state of emergency.
Alto: State of emergency!?
Nanase: Galaxy is...?
Ranka: Those things...are coming again...?
Alto: An alert?
p18
Michel: The timing...
Alto: Michel! You guys head to SMS first!!
Michel: H-hey Alto!!
Alto: I have a promise to keep!!
Michel: Damn... Luca! Let's go!
Luca: OK!
Nanase: Does this mean...the fighting's starting...?
Ranka: Alto-kun...
p20
Alto: That's a pretty gloomy expression.
Sheryl: Alto...
Alto: You could have at least let your security know. If Grace-san hadn't been there, I would have been in trouble.
Sheryl: Sorry, I just forgot.
Alto: Geez, I don't really have time since I have to launch.
Sheryl: Launch?
p21
Alto: I'm a pilot afterall. Flying is my job. But before that, I had a promise to keep. Here's your earing. It's important, right?
Sheryl: ...Thank you.
p22
Sheryl: It's a momento from my mother. Still, I say that even though I don't know what she looks like. Oh, don't let anyone else
know, OK?
p23
Sheryl: I--really hated Galaxy. That ship was the worst place for a child with no relatives. It felt so cold--but even with that, it is
still my homeland. That's why...
p24
Alto: Come on--...give me a break. It's tough if you act so vulnerable...Don't worry, I'll protect your homeland.
Sheryl: I guess...I said a little too much...Alto...I'll let you borrow this earing for a little while.
p25
Sheryl: But, you have to return it.
Alto: What the hell's that...
Sheryl: You better return it!! I won't forgive you if you get even a scratch on it!!
Alto: Yeah!!
p26
Grace: Sheryl. About today's concert...I guess we'll have to cancel...
Sheryl: We're doing it. I can't give into my depression while a certain idiot is risking his life. If a pilot's job is fight
p27
Sheryl: then my job is to sing!!
Sheryl: That's what everyone expects of Sheryl.
p28
Lam: No irregularities with the ship's equipment.
Monica: Reaction furnace power output stable.
Mina: Hyperion Creios Launched!
Guy: The Skull Squadron is launching!
Announcement: All units outfited with Superpacks. Ready for launch.
p29
Ozma: All Skull Squadron members, ready?
Michel: Skull 3 standby.
Luca: Skull 6 standby
Alto: Skull 7...standby.
Ozma: Listen, I won't let any of you die in this battle.
p30
Ozma: Whatever the situation, survive no matter what you have to do. Survive so that we can return to Frontier.
p31
Alto: I'm definitely coming back.
Cathy: Skull Squadron, standby complete. Is it part of the commander's job to encourage rookies, Ozma-taichou?
Ozma: It's nothing so grand.
Cathy: Roger. Well then, prepare to fold.
p32
Bobby: Captain, we've finished preparations for launch.
Captain: Alright, position the fold as close as possible. We will immediately perform a twelve light year short range fold.
Macross Quarter, Lauch!
p33
Ariela: Damn. We can't get close to Galaxy like this...!!
p34
Ariela: Wha...!! It's got me--
p38
Alto: Come on then!! Vajura bastards!!
-
Same here. You'd think that after all the time that Sheryl's been singing on the Galaxy fleet or the countless times Ranka has sung while on the ship that the Vajra would have attacked a long time ago. However, its also undeniable that during important scenes, the Vajra are shown to definitely notice Sheryl and Ranka when their in the midst of singing. Add the fact that sound isn't supposed to be carried through space and whatever is attracting the aliens just might not be the physical act of singing but rather the persons themselves or something else entirely. Sound energy? I sure hope not.
With that hair? I seriously doubt it. The fact that he's with Kathy still surprises me to this day!
My loony theory is that the reason they might have not responded to Sheryl when she was on Galaxy was because she had both her earings on. I mean there has to be a reason that she is still wearing the right one.
-
Hey, I'm doing my part...I'm just going to let this seed for the remainder of the day.
And I really want to know
what that Zentradi ship was doing out there
, myself. Unless (and maybe the subs will bear this out)
they happened to run into the Vajra on their own
...
It's the remnants of a 7000 year old battlefield that the Pixie squadron found on a scouting mission.

It seem you guys got used to Sheryl's Tuna buns a bit too much and forgot that not every girl is that lucky in the buns department, or you just haven't noticed them ( see Keyra Knightley for reference)
Until I see some official data on Brera Sterne's gender (there's no way that can be a guy's name) I'll just go by my own observations. I just don't see any evidence to the contrary.
Well I figure several of the points you noted in the screencaps are because he is being marketed as a girly guy. I forget, but wasn't an image of him shown somewhere in the decultured edition saying that he was some sort of idol? Anyways I think the fact that he's voiced by Houshi Souichirou makes the likelihood that he's a guy pretty much 100%. As for his name, I'm not so sure that you can use odd names as evidence for or against when you're talking about anime
P.S. I don't think any of the men in Frontier have Adam's apples
-
Aha! I KNEW I heard "dissociative-something-or-other" in that conversation. lol Didn't catch amnesia, but after her reaction to seeing him hurt, I figured they meant some sort of mental problem.
Heh, you don't wanna know how many times I had to replay that part of the episode to finally realize she sad "dissociative amnesia"
-
My japanese ain't that good, could someone fill me in on what Alto and Ozuma are talking about in the hospital before Ozuma gets angry at Alto and his wound start to bleed again ?
If you've read the manga, it's basically the same thing that is said in that. Ozma and Ranka aren't related by blood since she lost everyone that was related to her to the Vajura. She also reacts very strongly whenever someone close to her is hurt. According to Canalia, she suffers from dissociative amnesia. Alto gets mad that Ozma is keeping the truth from her and that if it were him he'd rather know everything because he's sick of others controlling his fate.
-
I am assuming (possibly wrongly
) that its his older brother. If I recall correctly, his family was not happy with Alto's change in career choice.I don't have the episode with me, but if I remember right, Ranzou is Alto's father's name. Alto is also the eldest son so I'm sure there is tons of pressure on him to continue in the family career.
-
Another great epsode, can't wait for the sub to fill in some more of Ranka's background. Classic moment,
when they are in the mini-shelter, an explosion knocks Sheryl over, causing her to crack Alto across the face. When she gets up, her top is down, showing off her goodies (to them, not to us). She grins at Alto, before giving him a second crack across the face!
There's a real Plus vibe to this episode.
Yeah, the antics were pretty good in this episode.
Sheryl actually teases Alto with an offer of service by saying he could use the memory of her goodies "for tonight only"
Of course she immediately tells him that she wasn't serious after Alto and Ranka react. -
To those who have read the manga, Sheryl tells Alto not to spread her having flashed him on the net, although:
Sheryl: Oh, I'll allow you to use that memory tonight.
After Alto's reaction:
Sheryl: Idiot, like I'd actually allow that.
-
and how the hell did Sheryl's earing end up with Guilliam belongings?
Well it came off when Alto was catching/holding Sheryl and probably got stuck somewhere. It then fell off when he piloted the VF-25 and the SMS guys went through the cockpit and assumed it was his. At least this is how I think it happened.
-
Just to throw my hat into the whole Ranka/Lanka debate... am I the only one that watched the ED credits and saw the "Ranka Lee" pasted in the corner?
I saw too, but I totally forgot about it...
-
Good episode.
There was one animation flub in the park when Alto lands with Ranka. The VF still had it's left arm when it lost it the previous scene
.
Oh and I've talked to Egan and we're gonna accept both "Ranka" or "Lanca" until we get a definite answer. So we'll accept both like Linn Minmei/Lynn Minmay.
The vial of blood was labeled R. Lee so I'm thinking it is Ranka.
-
Not a spoiler, and that is indeed why they call him "princess". You'll notice him dressed up in all of his feminine glory in the OP animation.
This was actually the first question in this month's Frontier section in Newtype.
Q: Since Michel calls Alto "Princess Alto the Eternal Number 2", he really is a girl, right?
A: They are classmates, but Michel is ranked higher. Alto is skilled, but he doesn't practice. Princess Alto is used to make fun of him since Alto's from a family who plays female Kabuki roles. Michel saw him on stage when they were children and thought "What a pretty girl" then said "oh it's you" got closer...it seems (laugh).
-
LOL have you guys even watched the episode or are you just discussing the pics that were posted
I got the episode off Share so I've already watched it. It does follow along the same lines as the manga with some changes and very few of the gags. It's also nice to have all new footage after waiting 4 months
-
And it's DivX! YES! My whininess has apparently paid off!
I'm not sure that's the reason It's just that that's the only version on out on Share right now.
-
So Michel is not the only one to call Alto princess. Ranka gets Ozuma to look for him using this description:
Ozuma: You didn't cry during the injection, did you?
Ranka: Don't treat me like a kid! But more importantly, you won't forget about what I asked, will you?
Ozuma: Oh that, a princess-like male pilot...
Ranka: Ahhhh! You don't believe me, do you? It's true! His hair is this long and he is incredibly beautiful!
Ozuma also quit the military and seems to have a rocky relationship with Cathy because of it.

As for Sheryl Nome, i agree that she came of a bit arrogant and selfish in the first episode, but I don't feel any disdain for her yet. I see her as a potential for character development (the same with Alto), and i'm quite excited how she will turn out later on in the series. In fact, the character that i'm worried about now is Ranka Lee, because she has the potential to be a flat character. But i would be contradicting myself. One episode is too early to tell.
I saw her attitude in the episode as a persona that she adopts when dealing with people outside of her circle. It was pretty obvious that she had to brace herself when she was about to face the media, especially with the fact that she wasn't feeling too well after the trip. The Decultured version of episode gives a better picture of what she is like, but the broadcast version also showed us some hints. There's also a question in this month's Newtype that deals with this.
Q: In episode 1, Sheryl the Galactic Fairy comes off as arrogant and unlikable. You have to be kidding about the love triangle, right?
A: That's a good question, I wanted to market her pride first (laugh). Of course people have different faces that they show to the world. One thing I can say is that in episode 1 she was showing her professional face. Well, there are different types of entertainers so this is the same thing. You'll just have to wait and see what she is really like. I think you'll find the drama more interesting.
-
OK, I edited the t/l post to finish the entire chapter. Guess Sheryl isn't going anywhere, but we already knew that that was going to be case.

She was telling him why the earing is important to her. It's a momento from her mother, though she doesn't know her mother looks like. She also asks him if he likes Frontier, to which he replies that he doesn't since it doesn't have a sky. There's also a bit about how she used to hate Galaxy since she's an orphan with no relatives. Alto gets a little uncomfortable that she's acting so vulnerable and it ends there. Supposedly the early brings great luck.
