Is it me or Nanase only wears her school outfit to everything? She's at movie premiere but still in it!
Well she has had 3 outfits so far, her school uniform, her Nyan Nyan outfit, and that towel in episode 8. Maybe they have been too busy designing clothes for Sheryl to bother with her.

LOL! Great episode.
Although the animal attack scene was unnecessary IMHO. Of course, it was just an excuse to showcase Brera's cybernetics.
The attack was proof to Leon that the intelligence he was getting was real since he said, "Since I don't know if the intelligence is true or not, I can't promise anything." The attack was supposed to show of the "true terror of the Vajura".

Don't know if anyone answered yet, but Shin isn't voiced by Suzumura Kenichi, although I wouldn't have minded if they got Kobayashi Sanae (Cathy Glass) to reprise her role of Sara.

I just watched the Raw... woah, this episode was really well done.
Ranka seems now on her way to stardom thanks to this movie. I loved the entire Macross Zero bit. You know I was thinking about some of this movie their making and I have a theory about the supposed declassification of the AFOS incident. Was it really declassified completely? It seemed to me that they were filming this movie as if it was fictional but we all know it really happened in this universe. Maybe they didn't declassify everything and just admitting some things happened (such as the skirmish with Anti-UN forces after the war was over), and then for plausible deniability issues, someone involved in the government who knew the true story wrote some of the top secret stuff like the AFOS bit and had it written up as a movie. So everyone things it is only partially true when it fact it is completely true. Such a thing is used in other shows like Stargate where a TV show about the actual thing can be used a plausible deniability about the actual thing as a cover up. Well that's just my theory anyway.
As for Brera, well his arm is definitely cybernetic. I imagine if he isn't fully a cybernetic life form (which I kind of hope not), then perhaps he was injured long ago and Galaxy Fleet being the cybernetic masters they are were able to fix him. This could make sense if Brera is form the 117th which I believe it probably is. He is injured in that attack, somehow ends up with Galaxy where he is repaired cybernetically.
As for that fight sequence, even I'll admit when that started I thought there was a problem with the video before I realize that was just weird animation. I don't know why only in that part but it didn't stop me from liking the episode.
Can't wait for subs, must find out what they were saying!!!
My theory is that the story for the movie may have come from Mao's memoirs or something. There just seems to be too many personal details for it to be from a government report, especially when you consider that the world ended a year or two later. That is, of course, unless the Kawamori just stuck in the details because he wanted to.

Most interesting is Ozma
saying, "To think that you would end up playing the role of Doctor Mao..." as he looks at the flier for the movie. Now I'm pretty sure that Mao was part of the research fleet that got Vajurized, which also lends weight to Sheryl being related to her. If Mao was part of the research team and was related to Sheryl, it would explain how a memento from her mother ended up being made out of those purple stones. Then again, Sheryl's last name and the earings could just be a red herring and Ranka is actually the relative.

But then why deny it? That's the puzzling thing. Alto already knows that she had a screwed up childhood. So if she really did manage to get through growing up on Galaxy without going to school, then why deny it? If it was a slip of the tongue, then there has to be something about when she was growing up that she'd rather not have Alto know. And that begs the question, "Why?"
She may have grown up as an urchin in one of the Galaxy slums so she could be keeping her history secret as part of the "Sheryl" image. She's pretty intelligent so it wouldn't be surprising if she had a condensed education once she was scouted.

Actually, the fact that he'd even bring use that suggests further to me that there's something there, and that both are aware of it on a certain level (which may or may not be acknowledged). The comment was obviously meant to hurt her, and it seems unlikely that he'd use that sort of thing if there wasn't at least a little bit of something that he was aware of at least subconsciously. He had to know when he said it that the barb would stick, and if there wasn't something then she probably would have had a nasty rejoinder instead of tears (though she still might have slapped him; he earned that no matter how she might feel about him).
I don't think he was trying to hurt her or anything. Instead it was more like he wanted to move the conversation away from the serious stuff about his sister. The conversation started with her asking him if he couldn't sleep so to him it was just a continuation of that opening comment. Plus he was asking why she slapped him

The preview for episode 10 is up and
it seems the movie is to highlight the new Miss Macross Frontier, Miranda. Sheryl isn't staring in the Zero movie. I guess she's just a producer and SMS is providing all the technical stuff. Also pictures of the bridge bunnies and Cathy looking at a picture/profile of Alto-Hime's alter ego and Ranka in Mao's dress are shown.

The preview pics for the next episode are up on the official site. Oops, wrong thread.
Anyway
now I know how Bobby was able to put on Alto-hime's makeup so quickly...
-
C'mon, we all love Bobby, don't we?? (If you have read some of my previous posts you will notice that I support B.O.I.N.G anyway. So I am spoken for. Mmmmmmmmmmmm, Shower scene.........*gurgles*)
BTW, do we have any translation as to why Bobby got annoyed with Ranka's manager?
Taksraven
Bobby warns him that she's the younger sister of someone very important to him so if the manager neglects her, he's dead. He was also wondering why she's stuck with such a shitty promotion campaign. They put up a site for Ranka, but someone hacked it immediately.

This didn't really come from anything specific in the episode so far as I can tell, but it did occur to me while watching the episode. I suspect that there really is a mutual "interest" between Mikhail and Clan Clan, but due to the obvious difficulties in actually doing anything about the relationship (due to Clan Clan's problem while micloned) nothing is likely to come about (presumeably humans can't actually be macloned like Max was in DYRL). Under this theory, Mikhail deals with the issue by a form of denial that causes him to chase women that are exactly the opposite of Clan Clan - i.e. the older women that it's been stated that he prefers.
Michel jokes about whether she wants to sleep with him and then makes a crack about how there'd be problems since she's a minor when micloned. That's why she slaps him.

One thing though... what was going on with Sheryl in SMS gear? And on a tv commercial no less? I know she enrolled in the pilot program, but I'm getting a very weird idea in my head... are they going to try and make a tv series for her based off of real life stuff where she fights the vajra? Or will it be something like a movie? Besides the obvious problems of SMS and publicity, what the heck is going on?
She did the commercial as a propaganda piece so that people wouldn't just forget about Galaxy. The whole out of sight out of mind deal. "The Galactic Fairy, taking up arms for the sake of her homeland!"

So what was up with that derelict ship and the -27? Can't say he was defending it, as he blew it up at the end of the episode. More like he was going to check it out himself, and when it became clear he would not have the chance, he blew it before anyone else could. More shadowy intrigue!
Oh yes, you can clearly see the NUNS insignia on the -27 in this episode.
SMS's orders were to try and bring back the Vajra hive for study if they could as per the meeting that Grace was spying on. The VF-27 was sent to destroy the hive.
You can't compare skill if you look at the stats the Q-Rau are good but they are still out classed by the VF-25. If the VF-27 is on par or better no amount of skill can outdo tech. Real world example F-15 v F-22 total victorys for F-22 every time and the F-15 pilots are extremely skilled.Klan did pretty damned good since she got a direct hit on him. She only started getting hit after thinking that she took out the VF-27 with that hit and relaxed. Looks like the VF-27 has some pretty special armor that left him unscathed. Also, it looks like the VF-27 totally outclasses the VF-25 in terms of speed.
One other thing I noticed is that it seems the Sheryl blog actually is written by some insider. One of the recent entries was about how she'd been slacking with her workouts by only stretching and suffered for it after using the Ex-gear.

Defied twice, if you fall that far and someone catches you, you will hit the person with a lot of impact, distributed between two arms. Metal arms. Or then again, Alto could have decelerated her by going down a bit
Trust me, it's her billowing dress that slowed her down.
Actually if you look closely, Alto catches her like 10-20ft above the ground and then descends almost to the ground.

Any reasons why Cathy starts to blush when Ozma enters her room?
Leon was asking her out as Ozma walked in. She also complains that Ozma's handwriting is as bad as ever so he gets back at her by asking if she hasn't gotten more crow's feet.

"This is Alto. He'll be your servant/slave/girlfriend for the day"
Actually that's the scene where one of Alto's fans says, "No!!! Not my Princess Alto!" in reference to Alto's promotion to Slave of Queen Sheryl status (I think it's the same girl as the one from episode 5 locker room scene) and Sheryl wonders, "Princess?"
-
Did she explain why in a monologue later?
She just wants to do it on her own. Nanase gets a little indignant at the offer and complains a little about how Sheryl just came to the school and usurped Alto. Sheryl teases her about how she probably likes Alto and has nice body.
I guess Sheryl's never done her own laundry either...
-
She actually did.. but ranka refuses her offer later
The manager also got her a small bit in a variety show, but Leon pulled some strings to scuttle her.
As for the shot with Sheryl in leather, she called Alto her Slave-kun so Luca gets the mental S&M image. Sheryl also transfers into the pilot course.

It's an Indian name, that's all.
I'm fairly sure her nickname is just "Ginga no Yousei." She's referred to as an utahime (Songstress) though by Nanase, I believe. It's an interesting bit though. The Japanese have a tendency to say a word one way but mean a different thing when they write it. I can't cite any examples off the top of my head but it's an occurrence you'll see in manga more often than anime.
Anyway, there's some odd tech in this episode. I'm not quite sure as to what it does or how to properly translate the name, heh. Leave it to the Japanese to make up some crazy stuff as always.
Also, gotta love the Japanese penchant for saying things that are a bit aimless or can be misinterpreted. Ozma's line to Alto in this episode before they engage is amusing in that regard.
I rather liked Ozma's line.

Isn't Sheryl's outfit supposed to be a hologram? Next thing we see her taking just the top off...
I figure she is using a combination of both holograms and real outfits. She probably changes when the outfit she's wearing is too different from the hologram or when she gets too sweaty

As Shun said, they weren't clear in the first posted pic. Plus, how would you know that the English is the same? There are quite a few instances of the Japanese being different than the English in these types of things...For example (as Shouta pointed out in another thread), we've got the posters for Sheryl saying, in English, "THE GALACTIC SONGSTRESS," but in Japanese, they call her "The Galactic Fairy."
By the way, there seem to be a bunch of new raws up...I'm downloading the new DivX 704x396, and hoping for the best...it's a different file size than the previous one, so I'm hoping it's better...
Isnt' that just because she have two nickenames? ginga no utahime and ginga no yousei

8 looks horrible actually... worst than 6.
I haven't been bothered at all by any of the animation snafus that people have been sniping about, but 8 looks so horrible that even I can't refrain from commenting about how bad it is. Check out the official site's preview pictures, I have no words to describe how I feel about that third picture of Alto and Sheryl. I'm sure I'll still enjoy the episode, but still...
-
Belated epiphany here: After watching this episode subbed (and the explanation of implants), I suddenly understood why Sheryl had told Alto not to spread pictures of her breasts all over the web...that had confused me when she said it...
Yeah, I was confused by that line about spreading the images in episode 3 until this one too. The whole thing about letting him use the memory of her goodies now makes more sense too.

By the way, is it just me or did I hear Ozma call Kathy a "Bimbo" when she was on the bridge? It almost seemed like a DYRL scene with Hikaru and Misa when he told her he wasn't going to listen to her.
Actually Ozma used the word "bimboukuji" which means something like getting a raw deal. He asked if she got a raw deal from one of her dad's orders again.

To be fair, her acting skills are noticeably inferior to the other voices, which is to expected since this is her first role. I rather like her voice though since she doesn't try to be another of the painfully high pitched monstrosities that seem to infect most of the shows coming out lately.
