  1. I believe Arcadia will charge circa 30,000 yen for this, judging from the YF-19 pricing. Seller will always charge what the market is willing to pay. Spare me with the cost of making new design and mold. With the current CAD and 3D printing technology, how expensive would it to create mold and stuff? We can see some of the talented members here using the similar technology to create custom part.

VF-4G is to test the market on willingness to pay. Whoever then in Yamato see this and now under all new company, they could rightfully jack the prices up without the need to explanation and justification to the market.

I don't think Arcadia will set the price based on MW member's reaction, but I think they will use it as a gauge and/or reference on the emotional side of the pricing. Since there are many here thinks that $300 is reasonable, then it is only reasonable for them to charge that much.

For those that think Arcadia is overcharging, at least we still have Bandai, for now. I won't call those who thinks Arcadia is overcharging are not able to afford. They just don't agree with the value of the toy. As for those who think it worth the price, well, it's your money.

jvmacross: ....how soon Arcadia will go out of business? The profit figure will decide. There are company choose the short term gain over the long term profit. Having said that, Arcadia can fold up like Yamato and a new one will take over with a much higher price, until the few is not few enough to sustain the toys, perhaps. But then, hopefully we still have Bandai and other new one to continue Macross toys with pricing that appeal to larger Macross fan base.

  2. Anyone know why Yamato folded? They have established quite an impressive line of Macross toys and overseas sales didn't seem weak. Poor Japan inland sales? Or some other reason?

  3. I don't know. It all depends on the price. I won't pay hefty price knowing the design defect of the current VF-0. If Arcadia is going to come out the improved version of VF-0S, I don't mind paying more. I guess the VF-0S will be the last toy I bought from Arcadia, unless they make VF-2SS and VF-2JA from Macross 2.

  4. You obviously have no idea what niche means. Yamato, save for the VF-1 which has a following outside of the US, was producing toys from 20+ year old shows that were never legally released outside of Japan and weren't necessarily that popular within Japan at the time. The price has nothing to do with the product being niche. If that were true Hot Toys releases would be "niche" as well but the properties are all red hot around the world. You're speaking nonsense.

I know what niche means. Macross toys may not be niche for now. But Arcadia had started to place the price appealing to a much smaller group. You could call the group as Macross die hard fan. Only die hard will continue to pay whatever exorcibant prices Arcadia set and soon only the die hard will follow the toys. While Macross itself may not be niche, at least Arcadia's Macross toy will be. You just have not seen far enough to see the niche is coming. Just hope Bandai won't follow this trend too soon.

  5. The Yamato and Bandai products are not for niche market. But judging on the pricing trend from Arcadia, Macross toys are fast becoming niche product. May be some people would prefer them to be niche so that they could show off to those who couldn't afford. I would hope them to be more affordable so that Macross could reach more people. If Macross become a niche market, it will only shrink. For now, I applaud Bandai's prices as it is good toy, playable at a reasonable price.

  6. I generally believe that the prices are going out of reach for more and more fans. I don't think the previous prices from Yamato were cheap, I think they were pretty reasonable. The current prices from Arcadia are getting steeper as they know people are willing to pay more. How come the same 1/60 VF-1S from two different companies could have the price varies so much? The current prices of the 1/60 VF-1s are the same as the late 1/48 VF-1s. I guess it's all about willingness to pay. You are willing to pay arms and legs, they'll charge you arms and legs.

Bandai prices are still reasonable. One thing I believe they do right is to limit the quantity produced. I know it's a pain when pre-order last only a few minutes and they become discontinued items. But this will keep the value of the toys and they don't have to reduce the price to clear over stock.

With that said, I think I could only afford another one last from Arcadia; looking at their current pricing. I hope they'll re-make the VF-0S. But I cancelled the YF-19 for YF-30, partly because I could only choose one and mainly I don't think YF-19 worth its price. Yes, it's a great toy, but it's not a totally new toy, many parts are re-usable from VF-19. But again, it's about the willingness to pay.

  7. I've heard that the second release of the VF-0A has all the fixes, but surprise that VF-0S fetch such a high price. I guess a lot of people are still interested in VF-0S. With this, Arcadia will probably do something like the YF-19 and probably similarly high price too...

  8. I'm looking at a VF-0S with ghost bundle. Does this one come with all the fixes (shoulder, rigidity, etc.) or not at all? The asking price is 33,000 yen. Is it reasonable?

I've heard that Arcadia may come out with another VF-0. Does anyone if it's true and its time line?

  9. Not sure if this is the right place. Dug through my computer and found these interesting Macross items. I think the scrambled Valkyrie is a better remake of VF-1 than the VF-0. One could see hints of VF-11 too in the scrambled Valkyrie design.

I don't know much about the Star Crusade.

Anyone have more info on these two, especially line art or pics, could you share?
