  1. I finally found and won the second to last of these guys. A VF-25F Tornado from MFC2 is on its way.

The ebay seller (briareos) said they were getting rid of a huge chunk of their collection and had some pretty good stuff listed. I'd hate to see anybody abandoning their Macross collection (except when it benefits me), but I'd especially hate to see an MW member do it.

  2. Lots of potential still to go. Here's the ones I would really like to see:

    <Graham's list>

    Graham

That's a good list. With all the ones you mentioned and the couple of other ones in my post Bandai has enough for a Macross Fighter Collection 4 AND 5.

  3. I followed the instruction to slide down the nose cone as far as the double joints can. I managed to avoid contact with the chestplate, and no paint scratch till now.

I haven't even been as careful as that and I have no paint scratching. My nosecone and chestplate have met many times.

  4. The text say wave #4 is under development.

    Yay! More mini-valks!

Boo! I'm going to have to figure out more display space.

I hope they cover all the missing ones. VF-17, VF-11, VF-171, SV-51, VT-1, VE-1, The Protodevlin ones, as well as extra parts versions they've missed like fold YF-19 and YF-21, SAP VF-2, maybe some sound boosters, and ones from other sources like the VF-9, VF-5000 and VA-3M.

That said, if it is like the first 3 sets it'll be mostly variants of the VF-25. <_<

  5. If anything Macross-related, my buyer's remorse was on the flimsy Banpresto transforming VF-1.

Ain't that the truth. As of today I own 102 unique Macross toys (not counting duplicates, hence unique), and the only one I don't keep on display is the Banpresto VF-1A/J/S. I bought it at a time when my collection only consisted of the Bandai 1/55 VF-1A cannon fodder and the Hasegawa 1/72 VF-1D which I assembled poorly, so I was trying to get my hands on anything with that red and white kite.

The thing is too flimsy to stand well in Battroid and I lost one of the little landing gear pieces, so it doesn't work so well in Fighter either.

  6. The only valk that's given me any buyer's remorse is the VF-25S Full Armor. When I got it I was really excited about it. It has piles of die cast and the skull emblem looks great. That enthusiasm started wearing off as soon as I tried to put the armor on. Nothing seemed to fit quite right. Some parts were loose and some parts were tight. So I took the armor off and put it back in the box. Then I realized that even though it is pretty sturdy, it just doesn't click together as precisely as a Yamato VF-1. Now it's just sorta hanging our in Fighter mode on a stand with no armor on and I barely ever pick it up.

Even abandoned to sit on its stand the wing joints in the back are starting to show some cracking. Now it sits on my desk in the shadow of my VF-27 (literally, I used a shorter Flightpose stand).

  7. An extremely awesome Macross World member (I'm not sure if they want to be named) made me an offer I couldn't refuse on the MFC3 version of the VF-25F Tornado. It arrived today, and seems more much more cool than in the pictures. The thing is HUGE!

So now I have a complete set of MFC3 and am only missing one each from MFC1 and MFC2.

    MFC1

    VF-25F Sheryl

    MFC2

    VF-25F Tornado Alto

Does anybody have, or can anybody take, a picture of the VF-25F Sheryl from MFC1? I had pretty good luck getting my YF-19 with a "want it now" post on Ebay, and I'm thinking of doing the same with the last two I'm missing, but they work best with a picture.

  8. Bandai included the VF-4 as one of the secret items in the Macross Fighter Collection 3.

Unfortunately it's non-transformable, only about 2.5 inches long and folks usually want a bunch of money for it since it is "secret".

  9. I got my second Toynami 1/100 over the weekend. Now I have a VF-1J Max and VF-1A Hikaru.

On the new one I was transforming it into fighter mode to put onto the stand when I noticed that it can come apart somewhat strangely. If you lock the arms and legs together the way they should, the shoulder and knee joints line up and it's fairly easy to simply pop off the whole leg & arm block. Fortunately it's fairly easy to pop it right back on, but I thought that was a little strange.

  10. Been scouring Ebay some more and once the ones I have ordered arrive I should be only 4 Valks away from a complete set of 1, 2 & 3.

    MFC1

    VF-25F Sheryl (chase)

    MFC2

    YF-19 Isamu

    VF-25F Tornado Alto

    MFC3

    VF-25F Tornado Super Alto

I really, really, really want to find the YF-19, but so far I haven't seen it pop up anywhere outside of the complete set auctions, and those are out of my price range for just a couple of valks I don't already have.

It's kinda cool having a forest of little Valkyries on my desk though.

  11. Put up what I needed and had in the trade section. And I borrowed your list Horatio. Hope you don't mind. I appreciate you putting it together :)

No objection to you using my list, that's what I put it up for.

It's just a shame I don't have anything you need and you don't have anything I need.

  12. For things of this size/scale, you can really assume it's more like "1/220 through 1/280, depending on how careful they were". When they're scaled down this much, even the largest and smallest versions are mere mm apart--and so if one is 1mm too long and another is 2mm too short, it's all screwed up.

Also, I assume these are all really "fit the box scale", to some degree.

They did a pretty good job overall. The thing they really nailed is the proportions of the individual Valkyries. None of them have wings that are too stubby or feet that are too big or any problems like that.

  13. Did some inventory and research tonight and figured out what I'm missing.

    MFC1

    VF-25F Sheryl (chase)

  14. I just have to ask...where did that "broken leg" schematic of the VF-1 Valkyrie come from? I've seen that around for decades and always wondered who the heck came up with that.

I know my 3D model got it's tilted-downward leg from the Hasegawa model instructions I used as reference. The 1/44 scale Chara Works Valkyries are probably the worst case of it in toy form.

    Here's an instructions example:

    Talos: Thanks!

  15. Talos' line art is really awesome, so I used it as the base for a shaded version like I saw in the last thread. The shading is taken from a VF-1 3D model I built a little over a year ago. Mine's not quite so accurate to the lineart so I had to do a lot of adjustment in Photoshop.

Here's how badly my model lines up:

    post-7229-1270273600_thumb.jpg

Since I made A and S heads for my model those are the ones I've done. I don't have J or D versions.

    post-7229-1270273700_thumb.png

The thumbnails look a little weird for me, but the actual PNG files they load are fine.

I hope the shaded versions are useful for folks. In theory you should be able to put color and insignia right over this like the ones from the last thread.

  16. Just personal view; I still do not like the battroid mode, although there are already improvements over the VF-25.

I'm pretty happy with the Battroid mode on my VF-27. It feels more stable than my VF-25S. Little features like the neck being long enough without having to part swap, and the range of motion of the legs are great. I also think the way the wings fold up looks cooler. My only complaint is the little canards by the canopy. It seems like they can get in the way pretty easily.

  17. I think they got stressed being pegged into the leg armor.

I have these same cracks on my VF-25S full armor. I don't think the armor parts are responsible 'cause I kept mine on for all of a day before I decided they were too fiddly and took them off. It has been sitting on its stand in fighter mode for a few months until I moved it to a Flightpose stand, still in Fighter mode.

The whole wing to leg attachment feels too tight and somewhat poorly aligned in my opinion, whether it has the armor on or not.

I want Bandai to go back and do a Yamato style v2.0 with everything they learned from the VF-27.
