  1. I was looking into Full Metal Panic! 0 (zero), but info on it seems spotty (and no translations that I could find).
  2. It's funny, I was literally just reading up on that. Never seen it or read it, but, while looking for English translations of Rideback, I saw that the creator of that series did a run on Full Metal Panic! Looked up the wiki, and saw that both the anime and the manga are adaptations of the light novels.
  3. Definitely looking forward to seeing a more production-ready version of this prototype.
  4. Thank you. I appreciate you checking for me. For whatever reason, when it comes to manga and comic books, I really like getting the hardcopies. I have plenty of books in digital (especially ones I tend to re-read), but would love to complete this set on my bookshelf.
  5. I agree. I'm guessing it's a fairly matte finish, just with bright lights shining on it in the display.
  6. Finished up through vol. 5 of Knights of Sidonia... and I'm at a standstill, as I refuse to pay the ridiculous prices people are asking for vol. 6. We're into a lot of details and subplots that were skipped by the anime, and I'm really enjoying it a lot. Also just read vol. 3 of season 1 of Aldnoah Zero and my opinion has improved. It looks like the writer and artist are finally creating their own pacing, transitions, and framing based on the scripts, as opposed to just transferring the anime to manga format. Patiently waiting for Mech Cadet Yu vol. 2 and Mobile Suit Gundam: Thunderbolt vol. 2 to arrive... Not Manga, but I just read the Halo Graphic Novel (sought it out due to the Tsutomu Nihei story). I thought it was... meh. I was expecting more, since it seems to have gotten pretty solid reviews, but it just didn't do anything for me, and I don't think it was just because I wasn't invested in any of the characters. It seemed like otherwise talented writers and otherwise amazing artists just, you know, contributing something ok. Maybe they had trouble fitting within page limitations? The notes in the book from the creative teams suggest that they were given as much time as they reasonably needed and relatively free reign to do what they wanted.
  7. I'm sure it can be gotten for cheaper (with more patience, or more diligent searching online), but I'm pretty content with my purchase.
  8. Personally (and this is all just personal taste when it comes to these details), I prefer the new color. Something about it just makes me think higher-end product, as compared to the color posted above on the old prototype, which looks more toy-ish to me. I don't know, maybe I'm associating it with some other cheaper figure? Aesthetically, I still like the hexagons.
  9. I got mine on Amazon (US). It was going for close to $300, so I added it to my watchlist. Every few days it went down by like $10, then someone would buy one and the price would go up again. Eventually, it got down to $115, and that's when I placed my order. Glad I waited, because I was previously kicking myself for not ordering when it got down to $160 and then went back up.
  10. Those two figures are gorgeous, and the accessories look great too. I just can't justify $250 for them, especially where they don't scale with the others... though I'm tempted to expand to that scale, since they're also designed by Tsutomu Nihei and about half of the 1/12 line is not offered in 1/6 (basically, anything with cloth). If you're just looking for artistic anatomy and posing references, Amazon has a bunch of the knockoffs for cheaper (Senreal), and there are also a bunch of almost identical figures marketed specifically for that purpose. Some of them look really cool, like the Tulas ones and the S.H.Figuarts body-kun figures.
  11. I think that the 1/6 has been sold out for a good while now, but you can find it on auction sites still. Just be wary, since there are A LOT of knockoffs of both the 1/6 and 1/12 lines out there. The ones going for ridiculously high prices? Probably legit. The ones going for ridiculously low prices? Knockoffs. (sorry if I wasn't more helpful, but I'm more familiar with the 1/12 line, since that's the one I collect)
  12. If that's correct, then that's actually bigger than I was expecting. "It has nothing to do with development, this is fan art! !" is what pops up on my screen. Honestly, I want a TLEAD, but want it equally "reimagined".
  13. They look like they're molded as part of the larger plates/flaps, and just painted a different color. I think they're a decorative/stylistic element. Personally, I like them, but I can appreciate how others might not.
  14. That's fair. Mine is in a display case next to the Arcadia Garland, and scales with it just about perfectly (not the rider, but the Garland itself). I don't know if Arcadia will ever get as far with their line as making one of these, so it's worth it for me.
  15. I'm holding out some small hope that the scale was backed into so as to offer a TLEAD at a feasible scale. Sentinel/1000Toys have already been getting a ton of my money these last few weeks with all the Tsutomu Nihei figures... But I can't stop! Sorry, wrote my reply saying the same thing before I saw that you already beat me to it.
  16. In fairness, Stick and Ray already seemed to have the connection point designed into them when they were first released. I get that they don't quite seem to fit design-wise, but, honestly, I like them. It's all a matter of personal taste, but the look appeals to me. I like the proportions. May not be lineart accurate, but I view all of the Sentinel MOSPEADA stuff as a "reimagining", and I like the look. Again, it's all each person's individual tastes. Agreed. I assume that those are less about a stop to prevent over-retraction, and more something sticking out on the inside that you can grab with a finger nail to extend the blade, but I agree with you. It's an old approach used for decades, and it would have been nice to see some more innovative engineering there.
  17. At this point, with Arcadia showing a solid track record of products in general, and continuing to show a commitment in line, and with all of the Fewture delays, do you think people are really going to spend money on the Fewture one? I talked about my experience with this one a couple pages back. I got mine for $115, and am very happy with it. I think it looks gorgeous in person, but the loose bits and transformation are frustrating at first. However, by the time you get to your third transformation, I think you start to enjoy it. I think it's well worth the $100 you spent.
  18. Just read vol. 1 of Mech Cadet Yu today. While it technically isn't manga, it really pretty much is... Written by Greg Pak, with art by Takeshi Miyazawa, everything about it is manga-like, except that it's in a larger format, all color, and put out by Boom Studios. I have to say, even though it's aimed at a more all-ages audience, this was a very fun, entertaining, light-hearted read. I recommend it if you like giant robots at all. I ordered vol. 2, and will be getting vol. 3 (the end of the series) when it comes out in April.
  19. I think that the standard covers are there to get people's attention, and draw in new readers. These alternate covers are usually shipped in much smaller quantities (like 1 copy of a special cover per 10 or 20 standard covers that a shop orders) and are usually sold by comic shops immediately marked up, aimed at collectors (i.e. someone who is an established fan and has an affection for the Waltrips, in this case).
  20. Crap. Looks like I'm going to be buying Legioss(es) again...
  21. I view the cover as more of a throwback than a mockery. The writing, however... that's a different story (no pun intended).
  22. My tastes are scifi, leaning towards more realistic stuff, but I don't want this thread to be just about what I'm looking for. Anything that people are reading or have read that they want to either recommend or vent about their annoyance with is fair game.
  23. First thought in my head reading that: *** hmmm... naked licensing can be a basis for losing your trademark... *** Not that it really matters.
  24. It's HG, so anything is possible (especially laziness), but I don't know how you can get in bed with MAAS Toys and NOT know that they're going to do a Kickstarter. That's been their business model for at least the last couple of years.
