  1. I included the picture from HLJ, using the IMG function to link directly, so that one can get an immediate impression (instant gratification) upon viewing this thread; the link is to get the particulars (price, release date, etc.) and to place an order if desired. B))

As to the articulation, it should be just as good as the Guyver III figure that came out several months back and IIRC, that had awesome posability.

PS: They are also coming out with a Guyver II figure.

    PPS: Fixed the picture problem.

  2. For some strange reason that VF has a very feminine look to it; was that intentional or did it just evolve that way? BTW, that head has a BGC power suit/0080 Kampfer design lineage IMO.

Nice work indeed striderhiryu, but I thought this thread was strictly dedicated to VF-1 head designs. I have no intention of raining on your parade, so please don't take this as admonition, but maybe you should post your non-head designs in the "Fan Works" section.

  3. While I never saw SAAB, I've heard that that show somehow wasn't liked by one of the execs up there for some reason...not sure if it was some grudge against one of the creators, or producers, but that's also the reason the show hasn't been sold for syndication, or released on DVD yet.  This was rumor of course, but with Fox, I wouldn't doubt it.

Given the way that the show was constantly punted from it schedualed slot, that rumor does sound plausible, and goes a long way in explaining why it was so ignominiously cancelled.

I agree. Certainly they could have newer, more menacing & more realistic looking Cylons that still retained elements of the classic design. These Cylons look like Trade Federation rejects.

I tend to agree with this assessment also; while the new designs are cool and all, they lack a certain aesthetic appeal that the old centurion costumes had in spades. However, relying too much on the originals could be a double edged sword; a lot of the people that complained that the new show does not follow the old template enough would bitch that the original was being ripped off and that the new incarnation had no individual creative design.

In the end, as long as the characters, stories, acting, and directing are as good, and continue to be, as the show has proven it is, and the SFX are commensurate with the rest of the show's quality -- which it is so far, I'll continue to make a point of watching it.

  4. Continuing in the OT meanderings...

One of the main reasons for SAAB never really finding an audience, at least one large enough justify renewal, is that it was constantly preempted and shown at odd hours; there was never any consistency to its schedule where I live, and I assume that was the case in every other market...you'd tune in to the show and be presented, instead, with a basketball or football game, or some TV special; often, an episode would not be shown at all until, maybe, the following week. Many would-be fans just gave up. A real shame; that was a great show well grounded in a realistic military atmosphere. Another tidbit that pissed may fans off was that the Sci-Fi Channel, I think, offered to pick up the series after its cancellation, but for whatever reason Fox decided not to sell it, and instead let it die an unjustified (in a fan's eyes) premature death.

    Now back to the topic...

  5. Cool!  Thanks Gaijin... I'm glad I asked.  I'm hoping NBC doesn't air it, because the numbers are a lot more brutal in the network arena than it is within the cable channels.  Even though NBC has a better track record of supporting its shows.  (damn you ABC)

Good thing this isn't a Fox show. Fox is now known in the industry as the most impatient network in all history of television. Cancelling good shows is a Fox specialty: Family Guy, Firefly and the most recent glaring one being Wonderfalls.

Which is Ironic when you look at the shows that launched the network, Tracy Ullman, ALien Nation, etc...

The New Adventures of Bean Baxter, The Brat Patrol, Parker Lewis Can't Lose (heh, that Kubiak will eat anything...)

Don't forget "Married with Children"...pure white trash, and 100% brilliant. :D

BSG renewed for a second season...Huray! Great show. I just whish that they'd do more than 13 episodes per season; however, if the quality keeps up I can deal with it.

  6. Shiyao, send the hand back to Toynami. If the rest of the toy is intact and you're happy with the overall QC, just contact Toynami and arrange to send back just the busted hand; this is much less expensive than sending back the whole toy, and saves you from getting a replacement with some other, maybe worse, issue. Like many have said, Toynami's customer service is very accommodating; all you'll need is some proof of purchase and they will replace the hand within a week or two...they did for me when the left forward winglet that folds around the cockpit on my Rook broke.

    QUOTE

We are about 5 seconds away from someone posting a huge spoiler shot up that's going to ruin it for alot of us. Please be careful, folks!

I hate to be devil's advocate here, but are there any plot points left that have yet to be spoiled at this point? It seems like all the major bases have been covered here to me.

*edited for horrible spelling and questionable grammar*

Most everything posted is common knowledge; dead Jedi, Wookies, certain duels, etc. I'm talking about a specific screens that depeict pivitol moments in the film that most of us don't want ruined. Who kills who, when this happens, who saves the day, etc.

I will raise absolute holy hell if someone does that.

    I'll have to second that.

The motion carries the floor. Henceforth, anyone divulging critical plot spoilers will be pelted with rocks and pointy sticks...or at least a lot of bitching. :p

  8. What is there to be afraid of? Why be so against it?... just cuz Kawamori didnt suggest it? Its nice to hear what people have to say about what they would like to see in terms of where Macross goes. Keep an open mind people... ;):)

I don't think it's fear of the medium, or even if the product would be good or bad (well, maybe a bit of that); it's more the repercussions that a hideous "widely distributed" movie would have on the franchise that puts people off. If a movie were done well, all CG or with live actors, it still would not do that well at the box office because of the limited appeal of Macross in general; and if the movie stinks the deleterious effect to the franchise would be substantial, from further fan base erosion, to the blacklisting of the brand (entertainment financiers would look at it as proof positive that Macross does not sell and that would preclude we ever seeing another OVA or series).

  9. IMO, they break down as follows:

Best VF-1 toy for kids (durability): Badai 1/55

Best VF-1 toy for the adult collector: Yamato 1/48

Best injection molded (only, AFAIK) VF-1 transforming kit : Bandai 1/72, 1/100

Best injection molded VF-1 (also M0 & M+) non transforming kit: Hasegawa 1/72

Best resin kit: no opinion ...never had one.

  10. We could split hairs forever and it still would not change the fact that Enterprise was cancelled due to poor ratings, which translates to reduced advertising revenue, which leads to loss of profit for the network airing the show; it's as simple as that. However many reasons for that lack of viewers, be it the ones you mentioned, the ones I mentioned, all of the above, or something else entirely, audiences have decided that this latest incarnation was one-too-many Star Treks; Paramount saw the writing on the wall and canned it ...end of story.

  11. The piss poor ratings of the outgoing series and the pathetic box office returns of the last theatrical foray indicates very forcefully that the market for a Star Trek series or movie has shriveled to the point of atrophy. That is not to say that if Paramount/Viacom had a really innovative concept backed by consistent marketing and positioned in a time slot, in a station other that UPN, where this type of show could thrive, that it could not be successful--going against Smallville and later Sci-Fi's Friday block was at best a bone-headed scheduling decision, and at worst, a push into purgatory to set the show up for failure, regardless of it's quality or lack thereof. However, even with the most satisfactory conditions, Star Trek has become a stale franchise in a market that is much more interested in "reality shows" and "lowest common denominator" comedies.

That's why I think that a long hiatus interspersed with a TV movie (think some of the B5's TV movies) or a short mini-series every other year could be healthy for the brand; this would have the effect of wetting the appetites of the fans, but would not add to the over-saturation that is part of Star Trek's current state of affairs.

  12. What I'd really like to see Paramount do with Star Trek for the next few years is stay away from the episodic television and big screen motion pictures. They have proven through their lack of advertising for the current series and the general lack of imagination that's plagued the whole franchise since TNG, and the dwindling fan base, that there isn't a market for them anymore. Let it rest. Instead, I think that if they released a movie of the week once a year or a short mini-series every few years, with innovative plot elements, fresh ideas and viewpoints, and peripheral stories framed within the context of any of the time frames that have been seen thus far, and some that haven't (ENTERPRISE-C era) there would be enough interest to make it a profitable and satisfying endeavor.

  13. This is going to sound overly optimistic, and a bit naive. I've been following this thread for a while now and I'm growing more and more hopeful that this movie has a better than even chance to be pretty good. Could it be that Lucas will finally redeem himself for the craptastic "The Phantom Menace", and moderately entertaining but ultimately disappointing "Attack of the Clones"? ...Boy, I hope so...

  14. Ouch! Toonz, I'd send it back to Toynami for replacement; they are actually very good in the customer service arena. That picture shows one of the major drawbacks in the Alpha's design...almost everthing is glued, instead of screwed together. If the arm could be dissassembled without splitting glue joints, that break could have been easily fixed and made stronger than ever with a brass pin; but as it is, just return it and get a new one...just make sure to keep the sticker sheet, gunpod and pilot to compensate for the extra expense of shipping the thing.

ZM, if you bought the Alpha with a credit card you may be able to use your credit statement as a pseudo receipt. Contact Toynami and ask them; when I had to send a piece for replacement they accepted a Paypal print out. It wouldn't hurt to try.

  15. So let me get this straight. There's a direct correlation between talent and union status?

yes. more pay == more effort into work.

Tell that to the brain dead shufflers at any unionized US automobile plant. <_<

    diffrent job diffrent skills needed.

In answer to your statement all I have to say is that the job may be different, and the skills needed may be totally unrelated, but human nature still applies. Also, according to the following:

It always depends on the industry and of course the individual, but I can tell you asside from the minor outlier, union work less effective than non-union.

    This is how it works:

The union protects the workers so they can suck ass and nobody can fire them.

    Unions = sh!t work.

Here here brother. We had a guy here at my work who is completely incompitent and only still has a job because of the union. Luckily he is no longer our problem though, we transferred him off to the Tomahawk group, so if in a couple years you hear about T-Hawks going off course and hitting the wrong target you know who to blame.
I'm sorry if this hurts people's feelings, but unions are quite simply for those people who do not have highly-valued skills. If all you do is punch numbers into a cash register, and you can be replaced at a moment's notice by just about anybody else with minimal training, then yes. . . you are expendable. In that situation, where the workforce is unskilled and easily replaced, I can see where it would make sense to unionize.

The only problem is that unions don't see it this way. They want everyone to be in a union, because it expands the organizations power (more dues, more influence).

I quite simply told my boss that the day they unionize my position will be the day I quit.

union workers are slackers, they have absolutely no incentive to work hard casue they get paid regardless of how much work they do...or should i say don't do.

    The ayes have it. B))
