  1. Nah, it just looks like some sort of robotic Monk to me in batroid.

It's not the toy that I don't like that much, it's the whole design. It just doesn't turn me on. The good news about that is I won't want to buy more than one. The bad ews is that I don't enjpoy it as much as you do. Trust me, I wan't to like it a lot, I just don't. :(

I'm with you there sqidd, the 21 is one of my least liked valk but I'll get this for my M+ collection but it will stay in fighter mode. I to wish I could find the pasion of the others who love the design but I guess I like older aircraft alot more than the new fighter designs. But I must admit the design of the toy looks awesome so I like it for that reason. I'm no fan of the 17 either but I love the 19 and 11B much more than the 21.

  2. I'll admit I'm not as big a fan of the 21 as some of you but I'll be buying one of these. It looks great in all modes and the fighter shape is amazing so sleek. I must say though that I can't wait to some of you guys do some customs with this bird. Yamato you have my money you can count on that!

  3. You can use the pen misterryno stated and he seems to have had great success with them, you can use a copic marker which is finer at 0.02mm tip but a lot like to use a mechanical pencil. Gunze Sangyo has a gundam pencil with 0.3mm leads which is a little finer than standard types at about 0.5mm. If you use a pen type make sure it is an achole based version as once dry it won't smudge and you don't have to add a clear coat which just makes more work.

The pencil would be best if you are not confident as all you need is an eraser for mistakes. Other than that you go into washes like we use on models but this can be time consuming and a pain if you don't know what you are doing. I'd go with either the pencil or the pens as you get a good effect with either. :)

  4. Well I was old enough but it was never shown in Oz on TV and I can remember it was about 1992 when I first saw SDFM for the first time when I found a video store that had most of the tapes. But to you guys that got to see it when it was originaly released you are so lucky to have had that in my books. You miss a lot of stuff in Australia but it's a great place even if it is the a%% end of the world.

Misterryno I know this is about SDFM but have you seen DYRL and did you like it, as I got to see DYRL before SDFM and it blew me away and now that's my all time fave macross over everything else.

  5. Just think how cool it would be if you could go back and see SDFM on it's TV release back in 84/85? See all those chunky monkies in the shops for the first time. It would be awesome to relive that moment.

I to would love to get my hands on some of those obscure valks, thats what Yamato should be doing as Limited versions. A new perfect transfomation 1/60 scale but first they should start with the SDFM valks.

It's odd in SDFM that Roy's VF is the only one with the skull markings, I guess thats why they put them on all skull squadron valks in DYRL.

  6. I guess I could be wrong, I always remembered it to be a dark grey:

    yf21gun.jpg

I'm only going on the Hasegawa model kit so it could be wrong or SK may have changed it, maybe Graham knows which is the correct colour. In that pic it looks grey to me so who knows which is correct. I'd go with what's in the show but it may change as well in different seens I haven't looked that close.

The model colour is listed as 95% cobolt blue & 5% black which makes it a dirty dark blue not quite so bright as the yammie demo but it still looks nice and close. We'll have to wait for a real production version to see how the plastic colour turns out.

  7. I am Shin, Kieth is another guy here. You're showing your age obviously, because you are so sensitive to the truth.

Macross 7 did not depend on us. Macross Plus did not depend on us. Macross II did not depend on us. Macross Zero did not depend on us. Macross F will not depend on us. There isn't even a guaranteed go ahead for domestic Macross F merchandise here and yet Macross F is still being made. Regardless if we watch or not, it will still be made. Do you honestly think a company or companies would pour in several thousands of dollars into making merchandise for an audience that they cannot legally cater to? Its what we call a waste of money. There is no doubt Yamato wants to sell us stuff domestically, it would be cheaper and easier for everyone and a whole lot easier to get replacement parts. Again they cannot due to the legal hold ups between Big West and Harmony Gold. Big West did not send the cease and desist letters, that was Harmony Gold. Had Harmony Gold not confronted Toycom on one fateful day at SDCC years back, we might have gotten Macross toys domestically from Yamato. It was Harmony Gold that did not give up things, not Big West.

After seeing Macross and liking it more than Robotech, I'm not going to lie here and say Robotech is just as good in my opinion, when it isn't. This is my opinion uninfluenced by what anyone else said prior. Oh and don't even label me as one of the guys who traded in his Robotech stuff for Macross, I am one of the guys who defended the MPC after it came out, and became a fan of the MPC VF-1 & I still like it now.

As mentioned in my previous posts there is a lot of characterization in Macross that did not transfer over to Robotech.

Reeks of truth, but know one here has forced me to think the way I do about the two it's IMHO, but I beleave SDFM is much more mature and was probably designed for a slightly older audience but macross would survive without a US or western audience, it's just more money if they can tap into it which allows the show to expand, but if Macross had to just stay in Japan it would still survive.

  8. The more I look at this model the more I want a VF-4 and the use of the Minmay guard paris decal design suits this model so well, looks good on a VF-1S looks really good on the VF-4. I agree if yamato doesn't make a VF-4 they're crazy but they can do the VF-11B first.

  9. Well I'm happy with how it looks Yamato is really doing a good job in design and how sleek and thin it is in fighter mode looks awesome. One question though, is the pictures a page back of a resin painted pre-production version as the screws in the feet look painted and it looks like there are some scatch marks on some pieces that fit into one another and on the feet, just wondering.

The hands look great, much better than chicken fingers but I'm a little unsure about this detachable arms and legs idea.

  10. A great product to use for seem lines is Mr Dissolved Putty which is very thin and is a lot easier to use than a standard tube type putty. It also has the advantage of penertrating small gaps rather than just covering over them, you can also apply it and after about 30 secounds you can wipe the excess off with a cotton swab dipped in white spirit, the result is that the putty will stay in the grove but will be romoved from the higher surface. This is great for filling seems inside of air intakes and 99% of the time requires no exrta attension except primer.

Also remember that you don't always have to use putty at all if you use a solvent rather than a glue such as Mr Cement S as it wield the plastic togeather like wielding steel. If you align the parts correctly you will find that you can sand out most seem lines without the use of putty, but you will need to learn how to rescribe panel lines however you'll need to do this even with putty. Most of my models that you have seen of mine have next to no putty at all, only when a gap has to be filled.

Try using a solvent instead of a glue as I did this about ten years ago and your models will look better just by making this change as you get no glue oozing out of seems. But one tip, as solvent is water thin you use capillary action to draw the solvent along the parts to be glued, but make sure your fingers are not anywhere were the solvent can reach them, such as panel lines where the solvent may run down to where your holding the parts. As it has the same effect as having wet glue on your fingers and your left with your finger tips imbedded in the plastic, and that means more sanding, filling, hard work.

Model building is 80% prep work and the more prep that goes in the better the end result. Take your time, invest in quality products and read about all types of models even if the subject has little interest to you. I posted a great site with great tips and awesome step by steps, these guys are really masters at what they do.

  11. Ah, so naive... I've been married for 6 years, with her for 10 and the games change, but never stop.

Well I'm in between.... Been married for 8 years and I agree the games change and never stop but they do become more painful. Especially when you say "Hey babe, Yamato is releasing a new valk, (ducks for cover) and I really need one maybe two for my collection (starts making bed on couch)."

Anyway I'm with the guys who love robotech for nostalgic reasons, brought valks to my childhood and I've always loved the Mospeada mecha. But alas Macross is so much more mature and it makes a huge difference. Once you have seen macross I find it hard to watch Robotech with the same inthusiasm as I once did. I think there is room for both but it's what HG has done to Macross fans. If HG had confidence in thier product they would let the fans decide which they prefered instead of basicly banning Macross in the west. But this debate has been done to death.

Macross ROCKS, it's the original and the best hands down but I'm more of a DYRL fan as I guess I like super and strike valks more than the standart type but for story SDFM is just awesome. But all in all it's the mecha I love and macross has the best of the lot.

  12. Great work as always Valkyriepm, it looks awesome with paint on. It sucks when paint peels, it has to be my pet hate when modeling. Funny you mentioned you normaly build waterline ships as this is how my 1/700 is being done. Have to admire anyone who builds full hull on these ships, much more complex than standard ship hulls. Thanks for sharing your work and keeping me inspired to keep going on mine.post-5632-1196467084.gif

  13. You can bet your pay check that one of the "I cant talk about them" up comming things that Graham has seen at Yamato is one of these babies.

I really hope so, a 1/60 would be huge.

Cool8or, the weathering is achived by pre-shading then spraying in very thin coats until I get the desired cover. The final dirty weathering is done with a enamel wash as I paint in acrylic the enamel thinner doesn't harm the paint. I used X-18 semi gloss black as the wash then once dry I rub the wash off the center of panels with a cotton swab with a small amount of enamel thinner, letting the black build around the edges. The enamel thinner will rub the acrylic paint off if you concentrate in one spot for too long so do it in stages. I always apply the decals before the wash as it allows them to become dirtied aswell. Finaly give a very light drybrush in a grey that suits you and try to do this in enamel aswell. I guess if you paint in enamel then you can just reverse all of the above, but I'm not 100% sure as I don't pait in enamel anymore and always found that enamels wash better than acrylics, but that's just IMHO. Hope this helps a little. :)

  14. Wow this is great news. I've only just started collecting Gundam HCM Pro's and I love them, so Macross mecha in the same style will be great. As for the loss of transformation, that doesn't bother me at all in a small scale. Have to agree on the Revoltech PVC poo it really sucks and lacks the detail that can be acheived in a harder plastic. Can't wait to see these!!!!!

  15. No never sick of the VF-1 but I wish now (never did before) that it had more option weapon systems. Some different gun pods, super armor and such to give it a little more variety but other than that the VF-1 is a classic and always will be.

  16. I decided about mid last year when I started collecting Yamato's that I would only buy what I really wanted, but since I want everything I decided to only collect what I wanted for my fave pilot/pilots. So as Roy is my No.1, I puchased a CM figure of roy and then a 1/48 1S, then the 1/60 0S and a 1/60 1S these are what I really wanted to put in my roy display and the rest I used models and revoltechs. Next will be CM Isamu figure and M+ 19 and 11B valks.

I try and buy quick to be discontinued products such as the Encore tranformers and once they are discontinued I resell them. I also build models for a good number of people here in Oz and a couple in the states and this funds my collecting and life, but the wife and I don't go out much as we are content with a nice simple life. We don't need a flash car or a huge expensive house so we don't spend our money on things to impress other people and only on what we want and need for ourselves and the kids, and I've got to say we have had a blast for years.

I'm also a R/C Tech so I work time to time in hobby shops doing repairs. Oh and a older friend once gave me some good advice about collecting and that was that it's not as much fun when you can just buy everything for your collection at once, the most fun is had waiting and hoping on a piece, as once it's in your hands the quest for that item is over.

  17. Has to be the MH version at this point as I've also preordered them ( going to be expensive Jan/Feb this year) but I do like what may become of the CM version as I do like small detailed items. But I must say I'm not to fussed on the MH in ride mode as it really does look small and the necks on the riders look a little odd but I'll display them in armor mode and they excel in looks over the Toynami version. I have to date never bought any toynami product and I don't plan to start now.
